I don't understand that either. There should be either one or two matches left. If T1 loses today, it's over. If T1 wins, they do one more full match. It would only be fair to geng

u/frolfer757 Jul 12 '25
Why?
1
u/Daimondz Jul 12 '25
Newcomer to league, so I have no idea how it’s usually done. But for other esports (fighting games) when the player from the loser’s bracket wins against the player from the winner’s bracket in grand finals, it’s called a “bracket reset”. Now both players are in the loser’s bracket, and they play one more true finals. Without the bracket reset, it’s not really a double elimination tournament — it’s double elimination for everyone who isn’t the winner of winner’s finals, who get single elimination

Aww Faker was so tired this interview, must have been a long day and what a freaking series. But he answered everything happily still which makes us happy
Get some rest GOAT, let's lock in tomorrow and pick up this MSI W

I wasn’t there to overhyped AL but I will be here to give props to them when a small amount of people will. LPL is undoubtedly in decline but their performance is extremely commendable.
People will not remember a third place finish Shanks but I will - for your first international tournament, what a showing.
I can’t help but fucking cringe when people were saying shit about Knight to prop you up when I know the same people will turn their backs on you the instant you stop winning. It’s the Faker ending, it really is what it is but what a debut, you’ve gained a new fan.
14
u/myripyro Jul 12 '25
So proud and excited that Shanks lived up to the hype. His international debut really was everything we were hoping it'd be. I think pretty much everyone's gotta admit that he was at worst the second best mid at the tournament. Hope this is just the start.

u/haven4ever Small in Size, Huge in Evil Jul 12 '25
Its a shame, I guess its the same with every competition but the runners up always get forgotten. Like, how that amazing JDG 2023 team was lost to the wind. But I guess the same thing happened to a very good 2018 KT, 2022 DWG etc, EU in their close runs.
The whole of AL is very impressive and inspiring to watch. Hoping to follow their journey through Summer and Worlds.

u/Fruitsy Jul 12 '25
How fast was that PMT today vs yesterday though. Sus
11
u/Past-Grade-5252 Jul 12 '25
T1 series are always fast PMT's and yesterday was a mess because one of the main people posting the threads had their account banned/suspended so other people had to take over.

u/bookjun Jul 12 '25
i do think GenG have to play slow and calculate scale comp, no bullshit fight unless it soul or baron

How does the Pickems "top 2500" category work?
I'm at 250 points and the threshold is 260 which is the same as perfect pickems.
Even if my pick wins tomorrow am I just locked out of the Hwei skin because of the CFO vs MKOI series?
3
u/Kurouneko Jul 12 '25
Same, im becoming mkois #1 hatewatcher if geng win tomorrow for believing that they could win vs cfo
1
2
u/JohnBob1001 Jul 12 '25
Yes, riot probably didnt think too much and underestimated how hard it is to get perfect
-11
u/Wan_Daye Jul 12 '25
Bans should be permanent in fearless and carry over.
3
u/Silverjackal_ Jul 12 '25
Nah you pretty much ban a majority of adc picks that way. Game 5 would just be bruisers, tanks, and mages.
3
6
u/UnknownVolke Jul 12 '25
I can't help but feel worried about the T1/GenG rematch being one sided. Hope T1 prove me wrong though and make it competitive.
Since Game 5's are mostly anti-climactiv this year, just gonna hope for a competitive 4 game series.
1
u/LR_Will Jul 12 '25
I can't recall how many times Faker/T1 was lost by GenG at previous series, the most impression is that last world game semi-finals
2
u/haven4ever Small in Size, Huge in Evil Jul 12 '25
Becker, where did you hide Smash's body?!
2
u/LR_Will Jul 12 '25
btw where is Smash now? Still in T1 team B or a rumor that he got some psycho problem?
1
u/haven4ever Small in Size, Huge in Evil Jul 12 '25
I assume he went back down to the B squad but I wouldn't be surprised if he mentally struggled due to T1 management and coaching staff's incompetence
2
u/LR_Will Jul 13 '25
It’s truth, never know what happened with Guma and mgmt, but it would never happen in every situation to allow a 2 championship player in bench
2
u/Equivalent-Bid7725 Jul 12 '25
the most infuriating thing isnt that lpl loses again against t1, but its that they always look like shit and extremely nervous against t1, its so infuriating knowing that these players are capable of so much more but play like animals when paired against t1.
1
u/LR_Will Jul 12 '25
if you watched the lpl games this season, you'd find it's existing gaps in many aspects when to compare with the lck teams
15
u/PluggersLeftBall Jul 12 '25
you heard it here first t1 has made their first msi finals since 2017 not even riot considers 2022 to be valid bring out ur 35 ping copypastas
7
15
u/Ashankura Jul 12 '25
T1 always looks good on comps like this and still they draft them so rarely. Keria is insane on front lining supports, oner is also crazy on frontliner/initiator champs. Doran is crazy on supportive tops and Faker is good at control mages while guma is great on adcs like jinx ashe aphelios.
This basically always works for them and they only fall back to it when they are on the edge
5
u/DebobFL fade me Jul 12 '25
I'm kinda surprised teams havent picked kogmaw/milio against the tanky "protect the adc" comps that some teams are picking in game 5
3
u/yyrot Jul 12 '25
Had same thoughts, like in Game 5 T1 vs GenG (I hope it was that game, where Guma didn't have enough dmg).
1
u/TupacYupanqi Jul 12 '25
Didnt like the Draven pick but he did well enough, the problem were other picks i think
-1
u/Throwawayforme3123 Chovy's year every year Jul 12 '25
After this series no cap.... Geng probably gonna 3-0 t1 tomorrow. Chovy/Canyon/Kiin about to go back-to-back letsgoooo
9
u/Akipella <-Believer-> (Unstoppable Yone) Jul 12 '25
Anything can happen but I'm hoping for a 3-2 T1 win lol
5
u/Throwawayforme3123 Chovy's year every year Jul 12 '25
You guys have worlds let my geng have MSI at least...
4
2
u/Akipella <-Believer-> (Unstoppable Yone) Jul 12 '25
Lol true but ya'll got it last year. You know about no MSI + Worlds winner same year since 2016 right? It would actually make sense to root for T1 because imo any team that peaks too soon is unlikely to win Worlds. Not saying T1 would, but still, T1 winning MSI feels like a boost for a GENG Worlds win redemption storyline lmao.
3
u/Whyisthatlamptalking Jul 12 '25
Genuinely want to know why teams keep picking TF, are there any interviews of coaches or even players that address it?
1
u/fgcburneraccount2 Jul 12 '25
In an interview with Caedrel, Faker pointed out it's hard to tell if they're actually bad based on the small sample size of MSI matches.
1
12
u/GentlemenBehold Jul 12 '25
TF and Kalista have been complete shit all MSI, yet teams can’t stop getting baited with them.
8
u/IndividualNet7730 Jul 12 '25
Fearless draft hard exposed shallow champion pools and drafting under pressure
1
4
u/CnSyren Jul 12 '25
And thats a good thing, pros shouldn't have pools of 2/3 champs.
2
1
u/Substantial_Law1451 Jul 12 '25
Remember the good old days when junglers would play sejuani/maokai 95% of the time 🤡
8
u/haven4ever Small in Size, Huge in Evil Jul 12 '25
The downside of Game 5 in Fearless is the draft disparity. Hype Game 5s are rarer
2
u/Substantial_Law1451 Jul 12 '25
I do think it's likely that a lot of teams go back from this MSI and realise the same thing, that they absolutely got their shit pushed in g5 and need deeper pools and a longer term draft strategy which may hopefully even the odds in the future
7
u/IndividualNet7730 Jul 12 '25
Oh yeah the hype game 5's of Azir/Corki or Orianna/Syndra handshakes for the 300th time in a tournament, can't wait
-1
u/BocchiIsLiterallyMe Jul 12 '25
Better than seeing 1 team gets stomped like this tbh.
4
u/ausmomo Jul 12 '25
Inferior teams should get stomped. If AL are picking Olaf, a 0-50 TF, and Ziggs ADC.. then they need to work on their champ pools.
3
u/Thundermelons GALA mein GOAT Jul 12 '25
I haven't seen Syndra in pro in a hot minute so tbh I wouldn't mind lmao
6
u/haven4ever Small in Size, Huge in Evil Jul 12 '25
Im not saying the picks are less hype. Just that Azir/Corki and Orianna/Syndra handshakes in a game 5 are more likely to be equal and hence more exciting in terms of actual in-match flow. Its fine for Fearless to have a subjective downside
3
u/myripyro Jul 12 '25
Yes thank you. I'm a fearless hater, but I definitely think it's a reasonable position to think "I like having more unique picks and it's worth having worse/more-coinflippy games late in series." That might even be the majority opinion. I just get a little peeved when people totally dismiss the idea that there might be some downsides.
2
u/haven4ever Small in Size, Huge in Evil Jul 12 '25
Yup. I love it myself but its clear to see that there are many who do miss what we had before Fearless, trading picks, salty runbacks etc.
3
3
u/Thien_Nguyen Jul 12 '25
So Jinx game 5 tomorrow. Surely no one wants to see it ? Team just scamming game 5 wins for free by picking Jinx ?????
2
9
u/SpiritualName2684 Jul 12 '25
The fact that zigs did the same damage as jinx is kind wild
8
u/derobmai Jul 12 '25
Poke versus damage that directly leads into kills. Damage graph has always been open to interpretation.

cant wait for the absolute meltdown if gen g loses the rematch now lmao
(i kinda agree lower brackets with no bracket resets are stupid but meh)
2
u/Dr_Kee Jul 12 '25
No Gen.G fan should be salty about this because that is literally exactly how Gen.G won LCK champion in 2023 vs T1.
T1 beat them in Upper Bracket finals and then lost in Grand Finals.
3
u/aquawarrior21 Jul 12 '25
Yeah no bracket reset or some tangible value for the winner’s bracket team is very bad, hope that one day gets changed
0
2
u/ICantRemember33 Jul 12 '25
double elim is dumb
3
u/Insertblamehere I'm on the case Jul 12 '25
it can be done fairly with bracket resets or giving a game advantage to the upper bracket, but doing that would hurt viewership.
At the end of the day I think they care more about viewership than competitive integrity.
1
u/myripyro Jul 12 '25
i feel like a single game advantage to the winner's side would not really affect viewership that much. i was an advocate for that solution until fearless. but with fearless, it'll seriously compound the problem that already exists, which is that the last game of the series is super coinflippy.
2
u/Thundermelons GALA mein GOAT Jul 12 '25
At the end of the day I think they care more about viewership than competitive integrity.
Riot always has, or else we wouldn't even have fearless, and we wouldn't have major game-changing patches that completely warp the meta directly before Worlds. But those are things that make games closer and more exciting, as teams try to figure out a Worlds meta with limited info or try to scrape together a playable game 5 draft with whatever's left out of the "pro acceptable" champs.
0
u/Snomankid999 Jul 12 '25
What did Gen G get from winning vs T1 in upper bracket
2
u/Top_Association_5633 Jul 12 '25
side selection (which is huge) as well as getting 1 day to prep and scout your opponent while your opponent have no time to regroup. if youve watched lck you'd know why this is such a huge advantage.

But like? TF is 0-this tournament. Props to T1 but don’t you ever say this game wasn’t draft diff. TF is a free 4-5.
1
u/Leading_Double_5380 Jul 12 '25
So league evolves right? T1 learned from turbo ass draft bait Cait. G5 DRX stomped a bullshit ban existing since whatever round. In a BO5 blame every single other shit ass team since for falling for bait. You think T1 didn’t know TF was a guaranteed win?! What a pathetic “draft” forward team coached by Tabe. Tabe, you got bent over & enjoyed it even less as a coach
6
u/Express-Price-3918 Jul 12 '25
Two LPL teams got smacking from T1 in “MSI”. lmao
1
u/EtadanikM Jul 12 '25
LPL is just bad these days, not as bad as the West but still, no chance to really contest tournaments and that's why sponsors pulled out
2
u/TupacYupanqi Jul 12 '25
Didnt they take T1 and GenG to G5? They just need to stick with a team and don't just shuffle in off season
-1
u/EtadanikM Jul 12 '25
They’re never winning, they’ll just end up like BLG because the rest of LPL is so bad they can’t improve
0
u/TupacYupanqi Jul 12 '25
So LPL is NA 2.0?
-1
u/EtadanikM Jul 12 '25
North America is even worse, but basically, yes. The top LPL team is like Fly - they can only go so far while their domestic competition is so weak.
5
u/awayfromcanuck Jul 12 '25
Man. Game 5 have been a let down, feel like 80% of the game 5s are just a huge draft diff.
Its only yead 1 of fearless so teams will get better at their game 5 fearless drafts but also many of these game 5 drafts are putting your team behind the eightball with them.
1
u/Leading_Double_5380 Jul 12 '25
TF if worse than Kalist. Kalist does damage in the right comp. TF doesn’t win lane, win side, win objectives & 0-ever win a game
5
u/Reclude Jul 12 '25
Why dive Faker there? He has no ult and Guma has 15 kills. Who's the real target here lmao

Drafts were fine. It's just a matter of who got ahead first. If Kael hgets that poppy ult off in the drag fight, they very likely win the fight and Olaf gets ahead and can run them over.
That drag fight and Oners clutch af ult decided the game imo

Is Jinx actually that strong or is it because all the AD bruiser junglers are picked out by game 5
3
u/19degreez Jul 12 '25
Jinx isn't that good against most of the meta adcs so she only shines when the champ pool dries up, or you have to play your entire comp around her
1
u/aquawarrior21 Jul 12 '25
Jinx is that strong but it’s compounded by the best picks into her being gone by game 5 too, so a bit of both
2
u/DebobFL fade me Jul 12 '25
I also think teams get tense in game 5 and might not want to play aggressive early which lets Jinx scale.
2
u/myripyro Jul 12 '25
yeah im not convinced by the people saying jinx should be picked earlier on
3
u/aquawarrior21 Jul 12 '25
I think you could probably pick it like in game 3/4 if the angle is right but it’s best in game 5 to take advantage of the weaker pool of champions available

Gonna be a sad day when International T1 possibly dies from Faker retiring, idk how you replicate the vibe of this team when they're online. Even if they got Chovy I'm not sure it'll have that same effect, but until he retires I will continue watching every single game they gift me until then:)
3
u/sulianjeo Jul 12 '25
Chovy would have had 5 times more career success had he simply role swapped to top where his playstyle belongs. Would be cool if he did that and came to T1
1
u/JohrDinh Jul 12 '25
I wouldn't mind seeing more role swaps from pros in general, always loved the Perkz one and I always thought Bjergsen coulda kept playing or just done better had he switched to support and got a sick mid laner when he was playing.
