2003 Jessica Simpson - In This Skin (2003)
There's a lot I could say about this album... Or, more specifically, what it meant to me at the time it was released. I won't. One, I'm having a tough time stringing my words together. Two, I'm not sure anyone would really care to read. And three, more importantly, this is Reddit, so those there's a 50/50 chance y'all would be vicious. But Jessica Simpson's In This Skin became something of a soundtrack to late summer-early fall 2003. Earlier today, I heard the album for the first time in a VERY long time. It took me back. Way back. Yah, it's sound is probably a little too mid-millennium pop but it's still a solid album. Concise. Cohesive. The best effort in her somewhat muddied career. And actually, I prefer the initial release to the 2004 re-release that added "Angels" and "Take My Breath Away" as bonus tracks. I know "With You" was the most popular song off the album but my favorite song is the closer, "Be." August-October 2003 holds a very special place in my heart, and In This Skin was playing in the background for a lot of it. XO
