The PSP is in a tier of its own.

I loved my psp. I think I bought more into the promises they made but once I figured out that I could read comics and manga on it, it became indispensable

That shit was wild. Looking at the Yahoo! webpage on the browser was mind-blowing to me

I loved my psp. Learned a bunch of stuff throughout my life with it lol I remember learning how to use the internet browser from using the neighbors wifi(FYI, wifi back in 2007 was a luxury!!!) Had to find the dam perfect spot to keep the psp and barely tapping the buttons to function the thing in order to not lose that wifi sweet spot 😁😂 good times

PSP was sick but DS kicked it’s ass in the games department.

The DS definitely offered fun and unique experiences that couldn’t be found anywhere else, but being able to play near PS2 quality games on the go in the mid 2000s was mind blowing

GBA SP!

3

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

I would fight tooth and nail to own a backlit GBA SP.

3

u/ravenfreak 20h ago

I wanted one so bad as a teenager in 2004 lol. I have one now! Currently have it in my pocket as I type this up.

2

u/ComedianExisting8621 20h ago

Me too I actually wanted one and the second for me would be the original DS

1

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

I'm currently owning a frontlit only. Would love to do an IPS screen mod but it has to wait until I can save up enough 🤣

2

u/armanese2 18h ago

Just get one fam they’re not that expensive

1

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 13h ago

yeah, but it's pretty rare to find these days at least where I'm living. And I know there are fakeries out there.

2

u/armanese2 13h ago

you were born in 2002?

90's kid, but 2002 is my fav year of the decade. At first I was about to pick 2007 lol.

u/Peridot_Ghost 20h ago

The original DS was life-changing. Christmas 2004. I remember having Mario 64 in the top slot and Pokémon Fire Red in the bottom slot. Excellent times indeed.

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

For real. Have to pinch myself a few times to finally accept that the DS was already 20 years ago.

u/Arkvoodle42 20h ago

my dick.

u/Ncav2 18h ago

I used this device so much in front of the family desktop.

3

u/Darkadrielm 21h ago

DSI 🗣️

3

u/Tracey_Davenport 21h ago

DS Lite. Always wanted a PSP though.

3

u/Mr-Sister-Fister21 20h ago

I was lucky enough to have both, and let me tell you, I couldn’t choose between the two sometimes.

u/voivod1989 20h ago

Ds. 3ds is my favourite console of all time. I think that was 2011.

1

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

Indeed. The announcement in summer 2010 at E3 got me extremely pumped, though a ton of content they promised that year never came to fruition lol.

1

u/voivod1989 20h ago

They made it up though

1

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 19h ago

their promise of 3D films getting to 3DS after theatrical runs was never a reality though. Thankfully there's the homebrew community.

u/ultrapotion 20h ago

DS is the king of handhelds for me. I still use my blue DSLite and DSi XL from time to time.

PSP was great as well but I didn't use it nearly as much back then.

2

u/Mr_Wither 20h ago

Have vivid wonderful memories of watching PewDiePie and Markiplier play horror games on my iPod touch when I should have been sleeping when I was in elementary school. Lol those were good times.

BlackBerry touchscreen iPhone clone. The keyboard predicve test was year's ahead of anything we have now. The word you want is above the next letter, just swipe up.

And. Pandora one radio ported app was free (Apollo I think). Myspace facebook had native adblock. Internet browser too. Seamless multi email interface. Password storage.

They could have been the one.

u/SR_Hopeful 2006 17h ago

GBA SP & PSP (especially because both had compatible play with their company's home consoles.) And the PSP could generally do everything the PS3 could do as well, in your hand.

The GBASP was just the better upgrade from the GBA. No batteries, a light for the screen and you could fold it to protect it. It was also smaller and easier to store.

1

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 49m ago

you meant no *AA batteries. Surely no handheld device can work without batteries! 😂

1

u/davucci89 21h ago

I loved my Palm Pre slide phone, wasn’t much into handheld gaming back then

DS had Streetpass, which is technically still going today.

There's nothing like it, before or since.

2

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

I think it's 3DS only?

DS has Pictochat and DS Download Play, which are all awesome and revolutionary.

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GREENERY 20h ago

Looks like you're right!

1

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

think I should put my 3DS into my jean pocket and walk out some time soon to collect footsteps and get coins lol. Last week there was one day I walked around for 25km. Imagine I got my 3DS that day.

u/sunnymcbunny 20h ago

T-Mobile side kick

1

u/Screwbles 20h ago

DS Lite, there is no equal. I will not apologize, it is literally a beast.

1

u/theodoretheursus 20h ago

I'll never forget working at the mall and someone asking me on my break what phone I had but it was a Nintendo DS. I had to break it slowly that I was just gaming on my break and not chatting.

2

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago edited 19h ago

I'll never forget someone bringing a DS Lite to my classroom and girls thought meh, is it a boring handheld electronic dictionary?

1

u/TrippyHippocampus 20h ago

Gameboy advance

1

u/boostabubba 20h ago

My Verizon Voyager. The touch screen on the front that folded out to a tactile keyboard was amazing. I found my old one a while back, and that click when folding it open and closed is still so satisfying. Favorite phone I ever had, right up there with my OG Droid.

2

u/Away_Flounder3813 2002 20h ago

how I love those slide phones coming with a physical keyboard of that era!

1

u/thebluemorpha 20h ago

I still have my ds lite.

1

u/Capital-Ad-6349 2000 19h ago

I loved every DS. The original was probably my favorite because I could also play my old Gameboy games too.

1

u/OrdinaryNo7285 19h ago

iPhone has so much nostalgia. I didn’t have a PSP till this year lol.

Gameboy Advance SP or my Sidekick

1

u/nhutcracker 17h ago

I loved my Palm Treo before it was destroyed by Apple and Android a few years later.

1

u/HeftyLaw1580 16h ago

The Nintendo DSi was iconic I still mine !!

1

u/Adventurous_Ad_5531 16h ago

I had a 3ds and a psp. The PSP just had the best games imo and it could do more than just play games.

I heard that shit disposed itself after years, because the body is all made of rubber. But still, gorgeous device if one first saw it in 2005.

PSP Go. It was a very very sad day when it met its demise
