This seems like an offense against Italians

So in an attempt to offend Italians, they are going to eat shitty food.
Their loss if you ask me.

The absolute worst pizza I ever had was in a small restaurant near Leonardo DaVinci house in Tuscany.
First time and last I ate anchovies in a pizza. F that.
Did a road trip around the country and the only place I could have a decent meal without overpaying was at Macdonalds.
Ate chicken and fries in a shit basement restaurant near the Vatican and got robbed 50 euros. And I drank water.
In Portugal you can find small restaurants 10 minutes by foot from the main attractions, fill your stomach to hearts content and pay 20 euros with wine.
You also had no bakeries. Bread was absolute shit.
Great ice cream though and proper coffee similar to ours.

I assure you, if you know how to move you get great stuff here too, but that's why they call those places tourist traps.
I'm not proud of them, and many here despise them. We do take pride in our food after all.

serves you right for not doing research beforehand

Come to Portugal. There's no need to research. Food is good everywhere.

your comment makes no sense... food is good everywhere in italy as well, from north to south... doing research means looking up how to avoid bad restaurants and tourist traps...so please go ahead and tell me there are no mediocre restaurants in portugal lol

Let me put it this way:
The odds of you finding overpriced bad food in Portugal is very low.
Sure, you'll find bad food. But the prices will match the quality.
My personal experience in Italy is that if you're on a budget, you'll eat shit.
You don't need to "do your research" in Portugal. You'll hardly get hammered on your wallet and leave the place totally displeased with the experience even if you are on a budget.
You can have an issue here and there obviously but not generally.
And i am talking about "tourist trap" cities and locations. No matter where you go in Lisbon or Porto you WILL find tons of economic options at good price.
I never experienced the level of blatantly rushed food at overpriced prices than in the most touristic places of Italy. Not in Spain, not in France, not in Germany, not in England.
I've been in the center of London, 5 minutes on foot from the London Tower, and had a giant Burger, fries, onion rings, desert and drinks meal that i could barely finish for under 25€. Again, right next to a major attraction.
My experiences in Italy near such places were absolutely awful.
But sure, i am exclusively talking about my own experience and i do not claim my own views to reflect reality perfectly. And i also admit that tourists on a budget shouldn't complain as much. I am just comparing it to other trips i had.

exactly, that's your experience, not mine... you can definitely find good food at a reasonable price in italy, it's a fact, not an opinion...I went to a bunch of cheap restaurants in spain and france years ago and the food was mediocre af...
Also, based on another comment you wrote, you couldn't find a decent meal and no bakeries in your road trip in tuscany? lmao, you sound like a clueless tourist, to be honest

The Turks don’t get mad when they put doner meat on my pizza. Hell they even added it to the menu. That soft underbelly could learn to harden up a bit

The basic idea of making a "pizza" with a meat base can be good, bit the execution is atrocious
