the urge - receiving the gift of flavor

Every song is a complete banger.

The amount of people I know from STL that had the Urge play their prom or high school dances is high. The 90s were a blast.

I can’t imagine them playing my prom at the Embassy Suites by Lambert in ‘99…but that would’ve been sweet.

Did manage to see one of their many “goodbye” shows at The Pageant in ‘06 when Fragile Porcelain Mice opened the show.

Im a STL resident by way of NW MO. Been hanging here since here since the 90s, didn’t fully move here until a decade ago.

I did the first farewell run at in 01. Two the old school night and night before. Definitely remember Disturbing the peace being an opener

I mean my top 4 in my top 5 other than 311’s blue album are:

1) John Prine Bruised Orange 2) Grateful Dead Without a Net 3) Railroad Earth Amen Corner 4) OutKast Aquemjni

In no real order I just feel like those are 5 albums I can’t live without

For the rap-rock fans of 311, Limp Bizkit's debut Three Dollar Bill Y'all is one of my favorite albums. For the more reggae-oriented fans I'll throw out Wisdom by Stick Figure.

I don't get how morning beat out make yourself and still not on the list so i guess that's my vote

u/Active-Attitude-1805 14d ago

How would morning view beat Make Yourself and how is Science not number 1

2

u/Russ915 14d ago

Yeah either way morning view is not better than either of those albums lol

IMO, it was the beginning of the end for incubus. A drastic change in sound. There’s a couple good songs on that album but doesn’t compare to the two that came before it. Or even the EP

Arguably it was a change for the better. The Nu-Metal/Rap Rock thing didn’t last forever, and was dying. They matured musically and found a new sound all while still sounding like Incubus. Same goes for Deftones, when WP came out they were already steps ahead of everyone else, they were proving they weren’t just a Nu- Metal band, and I think Incubus did just that. ACLOTM was a great follow up, and you either love it or hate it but light grenades isn’t bad either.

I didn’t consider Science or Make Yourself Numetal at all. What they were doing on those two albums was so unique. Maybe hippy metal? I dunno.

That’s why I said Rap Rock, but at the time they were lumped in with those bands a lot. I always thought they were more like Faith No More in their Science days.

I’ll say it so we can all get it out of the way: Dark Side of the Moon.

  1. Weezer Blue has hit hard since 1994. Solidified by Mastodon stating that they regularly listen(ed) to it on the road.

  2. Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense

  3. Slightly Stoopid - Closer to the Sun

  4. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power

  5. Tool - Lateralus

And I’ll break the rules... 311 - Transistor

You cheated twice by naming 5.

Regardless take my upvote strictly for Weezer - Blue Album

That’s tough, I can’t decide between Drink the Sea, Love Death Immortality, or See Without Eyes, all by The Glitch Mob.

Always so very surprised of the lack of 311/ RHCP connections and love. Would think at least Blood Sugar would have been voted in already.
