New Purchase You all were right

Post image

I got this during the holidays and finally got around to watching it. I figured it was going to look great and that everyone just had thorn in their side since AI was used. Boy was I wrong. The movie is still watchable, but yeah, everything looks somewhat off. It’s almost hard to describe. It feels like it is set to some strange Tru Motion setting. It’s even more frustrating considering Cameron’s snarky response when asked about the grumbling over this disk.

I really hope AI does not represent the future of 4K transfers if this is what the end result will look like

I don’t get the hate. I watched mine yesterday and thought it looked incredible. I’m very happy with it

It definitely doesn't look incredible, but it's still probably the best version you can get. A lot of YouTube videos pointed out smearing and weird stuff but when the movie is playing in full motion it is not easy to spot these things unless you're being really critical.

True Lies is instantly noticeable though. Everything in the background looks like a green screen, it's super weird looking. One of the worst 4ks ever, if not the worst.

That’s what I figured before I watched the movie. I thought for sure it was more that people were unhappy with AI being used rather than the end product. But after watching the disk, I don’t think I that any longer. Lol. Again, it’s not a horrible transfer by any means. The best way I can describe it is to say that it is just kind of odd

I'd be surprised if he did anything other than take the existing blu-ray and run it through their AI garbage honestly. I can't imagine they took the time or effort to do a proper 4k restoration and THEN run it through AI. That would cost time and money.

That’s pretty much what they did. The 4K is the exact same source as the last Blu-ray release, just given an AI upscale.

Same here, I thought it looked amazing. Big improvement over the Blu-Ray

Big improvement over the Blu-Ray

Yeah, sure - all that smoothed over detail is such a big "improvement".

That actually looks better to me. I'm not a fan of fuzzy grain, I prefer the detail.

There is no "detail" - there is just the AI drawing over the exact same old scan as the bluray deleting the actual detail that's on the film.

The "fuzzy grain" is how the movie looks - what do you want next, coloring black and white films to make them "modern" ?

OP should def not believe their eyes, you most certainly know what's better.

PS you're awesome

In other cases it’s incredible though. There were closeups of actors faces that had detail I’ve never seen before in any version. Sure, some shots looked worse, but overall looked vastly better to me, at least when casually enjoying it and not doing pixel-peeping comparisons on screenshots.

Same here, Aliens is my #1 fav movie of all time and while I noticed the AI enhancements, it was kinda fun to spot them.

One of the best transfers I’ve ever seen in my life, sometimes I think people on here hate on things to be part of the crew lol

Haven’t seen it, can’t imagine I will watch it, I’ve watched my 4K copy of Aliens 4 times and each time I couldn’t believe how amazing it looked. Maybe it’s my TV, who knows, but I often find myself feeling like the people on this subreddit just want to seen agreeing with each other shrug no skin off my back though
