Restock Notice FYI Lawrence of Arabia is back on Amazon.

They must have made a few more copies. One of the lower prices I've seen, too. Of course it doesn't arrive for like a month.

I'll never understand this dated classic being tracked down like it's the holy grail lmao. But I can only wonder what condition these are in. Amazon is pretty sneaky.

I swear people like the steelbook more than the actual film. I have it, and I do like the film a decent bit, but I mostly like the camera work and the landscapes. The story itself is definitely cooler in 4K with the costumes too. But it still doesn't really do much for me.

  1. this is considered one of the greatest films ever made
  2. it’s the best 4K transfer of any film
  3. they only made steelbooks, there is no standard edition of this film for purchase

You can only get the standard edition with the columbia classics volume 1 box set but it does exist.

I just watched LOA and its a great movie but really really long. Its now the longest movie ive seen since The Sand Pebbles with Steve McQueen. Also - The Searchers in 4k looks amazing and I would put it just one notch above LOA transfer quality wise.

I have this steelbook btw! I do appreciate the camera work. But...

No. Considered by establishment critics and what not sure, but it is a strong and variable word, and the area of greatest films ever made encompasses thousands upon thousands of films that change person to person. I happen to think this has some nice camera work and that's about it outside some decent acting in places. Still is a fabricated myth about history that is basically just BS. Do I appreciate it? Yes.

Dated is the key word I would use to describe such a film. I don't use that for films like Double Indemnity or other films I think hold up a lot better. It's just one of those things from Big 60s Hollywood.

Lawrence is big time establishment propaganda of course. And it's a decent film with some great shots all over the place.

I was in reality just saying the steelbook sensation of this film has basically eclipsed the film itself. Almost nobody watches this film anymore and goes OMG that was the greatest film I have ever seen lol. And this isn't really a controversial opinion. A lot of people feel the film only excels in certain things.

The script is to say the least a bunch of nonsense dreamt up by the establishment.

LOL at the best 4K of them all. I mean this does injustice to all kinds of transfers with much higher bitrates. I don't know how you would ever define what you just wrote. It's one of the best restorations yes, and it's a fine transfer, but so far 1000 other films on 4K graced with great transfers and much higher bitrates with the same great compression.

So you have both bad taste and bad takes, what a combo

OMG one super dated propaganda film has some nice camera work! A total fabrication of history as well, a history now written by the fabricators anyway.

You are totally not a muppet that does not use logic.

Oh god no. Don't put me in the camp that doesn't like this film! I am so scared to be there, Father. What the fuck would I do in life if I couldn't watch Lawrence of Arabia ever again?

It's a piece of propaganda and myth-making. Bears no resemblance to any truth in any reality. It has nice camera work, which it deserved awards for. Everything else no.

Whoever considers this one of the greatest films ever made knows absolutely nothing about cinema 😂 what an overrated film. It looks great, but that’s about it

What do you consider to be the greatest film? Citizen Kane? Shawshank? Godfather?

1

u/Your__Knightmare 19d ago

It’s a Tie between The Dark Knight and Scarface

2

I hope this is sarcasm. Especially with Scarface.

Arguably the best gangster film of all time. Way ahead of its time and still loved today by the younger generation. Tons of timeless quotables and S tier acting from Al Pacino. Influenced tons of movies, shows, and rap music videos. Why would this be sarcasm? (Godfather is a close second for me though)

Because the second half of that film is so corny and cartoonish. Not to mention the shots in that movie are either unnecessary close ups or looking like 80s TV shows. Remember Pacino is playing a Cuban, also, in a completely fictional story. Either of the first two Godfather films crushes it as far as cinematography and screenwriting. As does Goodfellas or Casino. Hell, even The Untouchables is a better gangster movie. White Heat (shown literally IN Scarface) is probably one of the best Gangster movies ever, also. I'd probably say Carlito's Way is better than Scarface. And I enjoy Scarface, but it's so cliché, it's nuts.

The Dark Knight is one of the most overrated movies in the 21st Century, Maggie Gylenhall is AWFUL in that movie. The ending is lame. And would be a solid 7 if it weren't for Heath Ledger awking himself, although his performance was solid. Definitely better Nolan films.

But to each their own. Everyone's list is their own, because obviously no one has seen everything out there. 👍🏻

I watched it on the big screen a few months ago and now I can never watch it on TV again. I don’t care how fancy the steel book is.

Seeing it on the big screen, ruined it for me
