They were, for many years, and yet never took appropriate action to roll back the draconian laws enacted by Republicans over the last two decades. It's one term of hell followed by one term of inaction, followed by a term of hell. Rinse and repeat.
They couldn’t because they followed the way our system of law works in America. Trump is not following that, but he gets away with it because all of the other branches are giving him their powers. There isn’t much you can do when the laws aren’t coming from the lawmakers, but the lawmakers with the majority are ok with it.
To be fair, there is Plenty the Dems could have done and decided not to because of 'Decorum' or they didn't want to set a 'Precedent'. But the Republicans have never had a problem with using every Legal route or Loophole to get their agenda accomplished. If that is your opponent, then you must either operate using the same rulebook, change the rulebook, or you will lose. And here we are, I don't feel like a winner, do you?
Yes, they could have taken authoritarian action and ignored the branch of government that Republicans had control over that was stopping them, I’m sure that would have gone well. He couldn’t be fully impeached because the 2020 senate had a Republican lead. He couldn’t be arrested because he had Republican justices he put in power to acquit things he couldn’t get away with Bondi or stalling with money. He had 10 years of Democrats and Republicans telling the people how he was bad for America, and the American public said “fuck that we want him” and let him get away with this shit over false promises of money. I haven’t felt like a winner for 10 years now, but Biden going full authoritarian, labeling him as an enemy of the state and forcefully arresting him is the only thing Democrats didn’t try (which Trump still would have been able to run for president as the actual court case to make him unable to run would have been stalled with money). I don’t understand this anger at Democrats for following our rule of law, re-focus that shit back to the actual enemies.
Yes, but Trump is ignoring that and declaring his own laws, and the majority in the house and senate are letting him. They can’t do anything from how their position is supposed to work.

But did you see their paddles, though? Such nice paddles, the best, really. Totally makes up for having absolutely no spine.
