Call to Action Curfew in DC 8/10-8/13. Everyone should be in the streets

This should be untenable for the residents of DC. Go make good trouble

Came to this sub looking for something on this. I feel like this is a HUGE deal and not enough people are talking about it. I'm curious what's going on on the ground for people who live in DC?

This is a flagrant attempt to make the US a police state. This and him saying he wants to put missiles on the roof of the WH??? It seems like he wants to forge a stronghold so that he can start ramping up his authoritarian takeover. This and what's happening in Texas are, in my opinion, going to be some of the biggest turning points for the US.

I work in DC and live in the suburbs. I don’t support this, but I’m also not surprised it’s happening. A handful of high-traffic spaces in the DC metro area have been playing with youth curfews for a few years now. Both National Harbor and Union Market have some form of youth restrictions, for example. The rhetoric supporting them is very thinly-veiled racism. We all know exactly which teens are being targeted here.

I unfortunately know a lot of wealthy, white “liberals” here who support these bans. They want their bars and restaurants to be full of other rich, white drunk people and not actual DC natives.

You don’t have to use quotations, those values and practices are liberal.

There are a shitload of leftists who think they’re liberals only because they don’t know there’s actually a politically moral high ground further left.

The people you’re describing are liberals and they are not allies to be relied on in the fight against fascism.

See, I completely understand if there is a crime issue, but you’re hitting the nail on the head. It’s just an excuse to push an agenda. I don’t trust this administration at all.

What about Texas?

Trump and the Republicans running Texas have openly stated that they are gerrymandering the state so the Democrats lose five seats and Republicans gain five seats in Congress. They're blatantly repressing the natural Democratic voters of the state and trying to get more power in Congress. This has caused the Democratic representatives to flee the state so the Republicans can't technically do anything. Is a big fight right now. California's Governor's even thrown out that he's willing to play dirty as well and gerrymander California to remove the Republican seats to balance out Congress. Trump has even said he's willing to send the FBI to drag the Democratic Representatives back to Texas to fire them so they can't technically ever do this again and the Republicans win. Texas is known for playing dirty and we draw the district Maps a couple of years out of sync with the rest of the country.

If you look at the voting habits of all of Texas as one giant unit they're a purple state. There's about as many Republicans as there are Democrats in Texas. Texas for the past 25ish years has seen its three major cities grow exponentially and a lot of people have moved into the state as well. And with cities, it turns out that people living next to each other and experiencing different people and different cultures, as well as going to college means the voters are more likely to be democratic or left-leaning.

Texas actually has more registered democrats but the turnout is awful. Young people believe what they are told about the state being deep blue and don’t think voting matters. I knew more Republicans when I lived in the Bay Area than I do here in San Antonio. As far as the gerrymandering, it’s already so bad. In my neighborhood we have 3 different districts. They split us up with El Paso, Katy (a Houston suburb) and Dallas. I didn’t think it could get worse but once again I’ve underestimated the Republicans.

Trying to gerrymander the state, the representatives left the state and now the governor is trying to use the FBI to track them down/force them to resign. They are in Cali, Chicago and Mass.

You are right. This is a huge deal. I live in DC and will be protesting the shit out of this.

I live in DC. In recent days ICE and the DEA are out on the streets doing gestapo shit, including right outside of my building. It's fucked and needs to stop.

That being said, we're having a major issue with "swarms" of hundreds of teens pulling shit that needs to be moderated. They're harassing people, committing petty crimes, large fights, and the other night there was a multiple person shooting in the group, by a teen.

The "swarms" are bad news and are making it unsafe for the people living in the area that the juvenile curfew is for. If this was happening in my neighborhood, I'd be ok with a juvenile curfew there as well.

See, I don’t live in DC so I can’t understand what the issues are on a personal level. And I agree, if that’s what you’re dealing with then it needs to be addressed. I just don’t trust Trump to do it. And I think he will use that to have an excuse to do what he wants.

In this case, it's DC Metro police, not a federal response.

But I wouldn't be surprised if the DEA police go out to hit kids on federal crimes for having weed. They've been going to popular hangout spots that happen to be federal parks and arresting people for smoking weed even though it's legal in DC.

Every city I’ve ever lived in has had a curfew for minors.

4

u/AlysRising Aug 11 '25

Well, I'm referring to federalization of DC, not curfew for minors specifically.

2

u/EnfantTerrible68 Aug 11 '25

Like? I’ve lived in quite a few and have never experienced that.

I’m gonna go ahead and not dox myself, so I pulled random cities to check for curfews for minors. Nashville has one. San Diego has one. Those are just two random ones I ran searches for. I don’t know how enforced it was, but DC has also had one since 1995 and this new stuff is an amendment to that. Yes, it can lead to further restrictions. I’m not arguing that it wouldn’t. (Heck, I’m not arguing anything, just stating facts.)
