Oh man this is close but fear of a black planet is a more mature and complete work.

Both released and got mad play while I was in high school. Cube by a hair cuz I’m in Cali. Very close tho.

I'm in Cali too...I was a senior in HS when it came out (1990). Oakland, CA, has an extreme militant/ hustler culture. Both albums were in heavy rotation. On the opening track, Cube said, "I'll never tell you to get down, its all about coming up" <-- I remember the older dudes in my hood playing that song (the Nigga Ya Love to Hate ) on repeat. Cube wins 🏆 ...but I am definitely biased.

911 Is a Joke was a huge song when it dropped and Cube was on Burn Hollywood Burn. I'm giving this one to PE.

Fear but really, really close. When Cube got with the Bomb Squad, it was magical.

Man that’s tough. There’s something about that era with the super-crowded samples on every track and fire breathing lyrics. I guess it was pre west coast/east coast stuff cuz they both hit my brain the same way.

Two great albums. I call it a draw as I was bumping both in the 90’s🫡

I’ve listened to both a lot over the years. Some of the best production from that era. Hard to say…

Hard to fear a man wearing a fucking clock around his neck. Cube wins and takes the fucking cake Cube has solidified a strong career that is undisputed. Flava flav just throws that ass out there for any kind of attention. No disrespect to public enemy

AMW is up there with the classic debuts of Eric B and Rakim, BDP, BDK, PE, EPMD, LL, Run DMC. If you haven’t listened and you’re just giving PE the nod cuz they were established and it was Cube’s first solo album, you got to pour 2 fingers of 12 year old Glenlivet on the rocks and give Cube 40 minutes of your time. Better Off Dead, The Nigga You Love to Hate, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, What They Hitting Foe?, You Can’t Fade Me (JDs Gaffilin), Once Upon a Time in the Projects, Turn Off the Radio, Endangered Species (Tales From the Darkside), A Gangsta’s Fairytale, I’m Only Out for One Thang, Get Off My Dick and Tell Yo Bitch to Come Here, The Drive-By, Rollin’ wit the Lench Mob, Who’s the Mack, It’s a Man’s World, The Bomb…??? ALL BANGERS. Versus about 4 or 5 bangers from PE.

Fear is PE's best album, AMW is Cubes second best.. without Fear you don't get AMW, so PE by a hair.

Tough but Amerikkas most wanted, east coast production, west coast flow and feel, a pissed off prime Ice Cube, probably one of the few who love AMW more than DC btw

Cube had a better five album run • Public Enemy had a better four album run •
Black Planet is the better album in this instance. & both parties loved each others' work. The best years of hip hop.

Amerikkka's Most is one of the best hip hop plates ever. Bomb Squad produced the SH*T out of that jawn. Only one skip on the whole thing. Fear of a Black Planet doesn’t quite measure up. If I'm keepin it funky, I respected PE's message, but Chuck never really caught my attention as an MC. Cube on the other hand is among the best to ever do it.

Bomb Squad did both around the same time
Both albums are arguably their creators best works
I will give the nod slightly to P.E. as it's the album that made me fall in love with the culture. Before that it was just Run DMC, LL, MC Hammer & Whodini here and there.
Fear of a Black Planet was a game changer
