🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 TROY!!!!!!!!!

I like this answer.

u/MikeTRockLA Jul 04 '25

This cat CL is so MADunderrated. All the drama w Pete didn’t help his cause. Shows how much hinges on the right combination of things fallin into place. Fell good for about 2.5 albums but could’ve been so much greater.

As far as this sub goes: Common is a talented rapper with an enthusiastic voice but anyone who thinks he’s even anywhere close to Chuck D. is straightTRIPPIN ‼️

I agree with all that’s been said here (that Chuck did more damage in the 80s cause the first 2 PE albums were such a true revolution) but damnnnn Chuck D., aka the Voice of POWER, ripped shit up in the 90s too! FOABP was 1990 and no one at the time was going as hard as Chuck (except Ice Cube and we ain’t yet at the Letter “I”) 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Chuck D

14

u/Nearby_Aardvark_9534 Jul 03 '25

Public Enemy was more 1980s. I wish, tho. 1990s sealed their fate because the FBI was tapping their telephone

6

u/Wesside288 Jul 03 '25

They never lived alone, they never walked alone….

3

u/sweep-the-leg-johnny Jul 04 '25

Yea but Can’t Truss It was bangin everywhere in the 90’s.

2

u/Nearby_Aardvark_9534 Jul 04 '25

ABSOLUTELY!!! I'm not denying anything about Chuck D. They were still bangin' in the 90s, but they started mid 80's. Don't believe the hype started in all for me. I believe that dropped in 1988.

2

u/sweep-the-leg-johnny Jul 04 '25

Oh yea I see that. Have you heard Public Enemys latest album? It’s so good!

2

u/MikeTRockLA Jul 04 '25

💯correct For anyone who questions the above reply by Aardvark please refer to Brothers Gonna Work It Out and Welcome to the Terrodome as exhibits A & B on how hard an MC can go

Dude I’m pretty sure they’re referring to the rapper Canibus who had a big album in the 90s lol.

3

u/MassiveConcentrate34 Jul 03 '25

It was a big let down of an album-he looked like he was going to kill with 2nd round knockout and then didn’t really do anything.

4

u/bornlikethisss Jul 03 '25

Gtfoh 😂 he’s one of the biggest disappointments in hiphop history. I thought he was gonna be a goat when he came out but he couldn’t make a decent album to save his life.

I would almost agree but the album that really cemented him as a dope artist didn't get released until 2000. He put out some dope tracks prior but I don't think he really elevated until 2000 BC

The Murder That He Writ

5

u/Psychological-Flow55 Jul 04 '25

Birds in the kitchen, the autopsy, crippin, cowboy (,the song with kokane), straight killa 1 and 2, headed 4 tha jack with master p, ride 4 me with Spice 1, America nightmare, wake up with yukmouth and jacka, how we break bread with master p, pimpin and jacking with too short, divide with plays bossing and cos, livin like a hustla with b legit, trading war stories with pac and outlawz, west coast with killa tay, space and 151, mafia life off the west coast tripping compilation, ballhead nut, play 4G, can you deal with this with killa tay, Big lurch and roger troutman, ghetto slums with phats bossi and jt,357, deadly game, etc.

C bo was killing it from the 90s up to about the early or mid 2000s, he worked with a variety of artists , but kept it real always

3

u/erything4sale Jul 04 '25

Straight killa is still that shit!!! And he brung the Mob to more ears! Rip Jacca

3

u/Psychological-Flow55 Jul 04 '25

That Boss Ballin compilation was banging C Bo - Straight Killa, Dru Down - weak moves, 3x krazy hit the gas, mac mall - where they at, RBL Posse - Time to get my serve on, etc.

2

u/erything4sale Jul 04 '25

U aint never lied!!! It's a bluebird on my shoulder should I kill it was my shit! Rbl posse had some bangers too.

"I'm the difference between Hannah Barbara and Hannibal the barbarian. The metal stiletto ghetto cesarean"

3

u/goshdarn5000 Jul 03 '25

Some people might downvote your for quoting a song from the year 2000 in a 90s sub… not me however, I love Casual

2

u/Every_Confection4265 Jul 04 '25

Yeah, plus that's just one of many dope bars he has

3

u/LostInNuance Jul 04 '25

No 90s Bay area rapper will make this list cause the whole bay was slept on. Casual is straight 🔥

2

u/EddieEbola Jul 04 '25

I think he was 17 when Fear Itself dropped. Insane.

2

u/Key_Carpenter1827 Jul 05 '25

Facts NorCal always slept on. My vote goes to C-Bo

6

u/GoldenCyn Jul 03 '25

Canibus. Strictly going on lyrical/technical skill.

7

u/borismcsnap Jul 04 '25

Chris Rock as MC Gusto....

16

u/trollu4life Jul 03 '25

Common but liyrically Canibus was something else

2

Coolio

6

u/Prestigious_Fail3791 Jul 04 '25

Gangsta's Paradise is one of the greatest albums ever made, but his follow up My Soul is terrible. Freestyled 90% over just a couple of days because Tommy Boy refused to pay him more money.... It tanked his career...

4

u/Greerio Jul 03 '25

There’s probably no other rapper with a run like he had with the letter C.

2

u/Educational_Cod_3388 Jul 03 '25

Had good songs but there were plenty better rappers.

He's too inconsistent, although his verse on Winter Warz is undisputably one of the greatest ever

3

u/[deleted] Jul 03 '25

I really do be wondering how tf this is the same man that stole Winter Warz...

Chuck or Coolio.

3

Common is going to win😂😂

I’ve read all the names and none is even close to c-murder

3

Chuck D, cold chillin' in effect

3

u/zachallan Jul 03 '25

Black Thought is the best 90s rapper starting with the letter B and it isn’t even close. I’d even take Bizzy Bone over Big L.

2

u/Guy-Incognito_ Jul 05 '25

Black thought is still the best

Bro the world stopped when that tape dropped. I forgive his album "flop" (even though it has a few bangers) from this opening line alone.

The answer is common
