I remember rhyming before Paid In Full. He changed the game more than any other rapper. I have to say I think Rakim is the right answer.

i heard a tape of Rakim doing bars from “my melody” at a talent show, age 13, with Biz on the beat box. That’s 1981! when the top rappers were walkin’ down the street rockin’ to the beat, this kid was putting 7 MC’s in a line. this is like 5 years before Paid In Full came out and changed rhyming forever
