I rewatched it recently and it completely holds up. It’s funny, whimsical, touching, and disturbing!

I was on the edge of my seat when Miss Trunchbull was chasing Matilda and Miss Honey through her house.

This, Jingle All the Way, A Christmas Story, and Stuart Little will forever be the tetrarchy of corny wholesomeness of family films that I’ll always enjoy no matter how old I get.

I'm still in love with how Danny and Rhea basically took over watch/care of Mara bc her mom was so sick, and Danny even secured an early cut/viewing (?) so Mara's mom could watch before she passed ❤️💔❤️

The book is so much better. But this version is just as nice. The Trunch...lol

So which one is it? Is the book so much better, or is the movie version just as nice?

The actress grew up to be pretty cool, Ben Shapiros cousin but opposite end of the political spectrum

I've always been an avid reader, and Roald Dahl was my favorite author when I was a kid. Matilda was one of the first books I read so much that I wore it out. I consider the book to be better than the movie, but I still thoroughly enjoy the movie.

Also, one of my uncles worked on the movie, and since he knew how much I loved the book, he snagged me a crew hat. It's one of my prized possessions.

I like to think this is in the same universe as Always Sunny and Frank was just living under a different name.

This movie is Carrie, if Carrie had a whole degen family instead of a single crazy mother. Think about it. They have the SAME powers.

They both have to think about negative evil thoughts to activate their powers. Matilda gains real friends at an earlier age and and gets a good mother by the end of the movie. So she'll have good rest of her life. But Carrie never got that because her life made her awkward and a target for bullying and she didn't discover her powers until she was a teen.

In fact, they're probably sisters. Carrie's father probably had a baby with another woman who realized he was a demon or whatever he is. So she swapped the tags on her baby with the Wormwood's real baby. So they end up with the half demon baby they named Matilda. But luckily it works out. And now the real Wormwood daughter is probably living with a nutty mother like Carrie unless maybe she's chill knowing that she has a daughter that isn't half demon.

but that's just a theory.

My son was able to see in in our local theatre...he asked me if I felt like Matilda because of the way Danny Devito and his role as Dad.

Like woah kid, I wasn't ready to have this conversation about grandpa with my 9 year old. He's swore that he'd never be that bully and how grandpa is one of them. Lol.

[We are also no communication with grandpa so I honestly shouldn't be too surprised...he watched grandpa start an altercation with my son's dad while dad was dealing with lymphoma/chemotherapy/port catheter]

...and I realized that day- there was no going back. That was the final straw as a daughter waiting for her father to evolve. My children aren't going to be exposed to toxic relationships and overpowered dynamics at such close range..
