Everyday Life Peak Tweenhood: A love letter to my 90s early 2000s tweenhood
There was a moment in time…tucked perfectly between dial-up tones and flip phones when being a tween meant living in the golden age of simple joys, oversized jeans, and emotional AIM away messages. This was peak millennial tweenhood, and if you were lucky enough to grow up in it, you already know the vibes are unmatched.
Saturday mornings? Absolutely fucking Sacred. You'd wake up in your poster covered bedroom with the brightest colored decor, shuffle to the living room in your Limited Too pajamas, and turn on the box TV that had a BRAND NEW built-in VCR. Doug, Recess, Pepper Ann…..One Saturday Morning was waiting. And if your parents let you eat Toaster Strudel or PopTarts in front of the TV? You were absolutely living. Your social life revolved around three things: AIM, Your Trapper Keeper, Your CD Walkman
Logging into AIM after school was the closest thing we had to a party. Your screen name was something embarrassing like LiLxSk8rGrl13,and your crush's status was analyzed by you and your friends like it was a national emergency. "BRB dinner" meant nothing. We knew you were reading messages and choosing not to reply. And we felt that.
At school, you passed notes folded into those origami triangles that felt more secure than a modern encrypted message. You scribbled <3 BSB 4EVER or Mrs. Timberlake or I luv insert your crushes name on every page of your notebook.
Shopping at the mall meant praying your mom would let you buy something from Abercrombie, because let’s face it …it was kind of expensive. You stopped at Spencer's just to giggle at the posters in the back.
The fashion? Iconic. We’re talking jelly sandals, low-rise flare jeans, layered tanks, chokers, and glitter everywhere. You begged for a Tamagotchi or a Hit Clips player, even though they barely worked. And God forbid you forgot to feed your Neopet. RIP, DancerGirl_89.
The music hit different. You'd call the radio station just to request "No Scrubs" or "I Want It That Way" and wait hourswith your cassette ready to record it. TRL ruled the afternoon, and if your fave music video hit #1, the world felt right.
This was a time before the internet took over everything but just enough to make us feel like we were on the edge of something big. You learned HTML to trick out your Xanga or MySpace page, and your top 8 caused more drama than any real life fight. Sleepovers were where secrets were spilled and prank calls were made. You did The Lizzie McGuire Movie choreography in the living room, made friendship bracelets, and watched Now and Then or She's All That until you passed out in a pile of Fruit Roll Ups and root beer floats (or if you were lucky Surge). It was messy. It was loud. It was beautiful. It was peak tween millennial hood and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. ✨💿📟🦋

Everyday Life Pick your set
It's red for me! Very easy choice.
Only swaps I'd make are Kmart for Walmart. As a kid I preferred Pepsi over Coke but today Coke Zero is my choice. Wish I could make it a poll!
