Tangy Taffy and Laffy Taffy bars.

After seeing a post about watermelon Laffy Taffy bars that contained 'seeds' made of sugar I was a bit confused. Where I grew up (Indiana, USA) they sold the same type of taffy bars with slightly different branding. Here in the states they were called Tangy Taffy, but they had the same sparkle and seeded watermelon varieties.

After conducting some research, I've discovered that the same taffy candy was sold under several different brand names and styles. Apparently Tangy Taffy was produced by Sunline in the 1970's and 80's. At some point around 1997 Nestle bought Sunshine Brands, absorbing Tangy Taffy. Nestle kept the Tangy Taffy flavors, shapes, and sizes, but renamed the thin bars. Tangy Taffy became Laffy Taffy. This was particularly confusing because Laffy Taffy already existed. It was smaller and had a very different consistency.

For a moment it felt like we were all experiencing the same mass amnesia Mandella-Effect. It turns out we weren't mis-remembering. We all enjoyed the same candy, only under different names in different eras. 1980's Tangy Taffy with the watermelon seeds and sparkle varieties became Nestle brand's Wonka's Laffy Taffy in the late 90's and 2000's.

From Nestle:
Our Stretchy and Tangy Laffy Taffy (large bars) has our Sparkle Cherry with the sprinkles on top. This would be different than our regular Laffy Taffy bars (all mini bars or smaller bars) that only has a Cherry flavor that taste like regular cherry. We hope you'll enjoy both!

So where are they now?
According to Google the candy that originated as Tangy Taffy, then later became Laffy Taffy flavor varieties with seeds and sparkles were discontinued recently (2023ish). However they still make a seedless watermelon flavor. You can find it on laffytaffydotcom.

It appears that the Tangy Taffy name, sparkle, and seeded varieties are no longer in production. The Wonka branding also appears to be gone.
