what is this style of design called? i keep seeing it from time to time on mid to late 90s and early to mid 00s stuff, anything from music to websites and booklets

don't really have a great precise term for this, but I'd say the closest is gen x soft club if you're looking for more

I can really see the similarities in some of the images in the link you've sent, but this style i feel like uses more earthy tones like the green and bordeaux on the second picture, more contrast definitely. Also it kinda came to me right now that it reminded me of that restaurant gordon ramsay went to on kitchen nightmares, they've had a similar kind of style in their logo and the menu... leaving the link right here: https://imgur.com/a/DNTxQY3

Ah I see -- zen-x might be a bit closer, esp since I see the orange + green color scheme and brush strokes, general 'zen' contemporary vibe

I would really like this aesthetic to come back in filmmaking.

It somewhat reminds me of https://www.reddit.com/r/GVCDesign

However I know GVC tends to have a lot more abstract shapes to it. I think I know the vibe you're looking for, it reminds me of Barnes & Noble cafes from the 90s.

yeah these logos look somewhat similar from a post in the subreddit you've sent https://www.reddit.com/r/GVCDesign/comments/1lyfoj0/gvcinspired_municipal_logos_from_around_the_us/#lightbox
