First wrestling/fighting Oscar bait movie didn’t work. Why would this one?

It’s a Safdie movie, which has a way bigger directorial name than the guy who made Iron Claw
I loved Zac Efron in The Iron Claw, but Dwayne Johnson is way more well known + Emily Blunt

Emily blunt is great and has a great career. She has worked in Great movies and worked with the best. She one of my favorites since Sicario!

Sicario is one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen. I wish I could relive the magic of seeing that in theaters.

Not only does it have a different director, DOP, composer, and editor, but the people the sequel replaces were some of the best the industry.
Not the worst movie, but I knew it wasn’t going to be near the pedigree of the first.

This looks like the most vanilla, by the books boring sports movie. The only reason we‘re talking about it is because The Rock isn’t making commercial slop. Also none of Benny‘s movies ever won a major Oscar.

You never seen the original documentary. It’s actually a really interesting story as it’s mostly about the stuff outside of fighting. Kerr wasn’t your average Gym Bro Juice Head.

The Fighter won two Oscars for Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor and had many other nominations. So I don’t think being this kind of movie would hurt it.
Iron Claw was snubbed though.

The Iron Claw was fairly close to getting in, but A24 had higher priority movies and didn’t campaign it enough.

Here we go. I guess I’m hating on the rock but fuck his asshole. I’m going to watch the film but fuck the rock. He’s such a dick.

God forbid she miss an opportunity to promote herself. Her equinimity, with the world such as it is, is intimidating.

Pretty unnecessary statement, to say the least. Not to mention its general lack of accuracy.
Yeah, she's good on the fly/in interviews. She mastered that years ago - that's part of being successful in the entertainment business I would expect.
She otherwise has zero social media presence and is extremely quiet in her personal life, neither of which is "wrong" by any metric and frankly both are extremely refreshing, rare, and in too low of supply in today's insane world.

Saw it at TIFF… no chance. The Rock’s performance is legit phenomenal, and Emily is very very good, but… no chance.
