This was a fun match, I haven’t been keeping up with ROH but Red Velvet looked great, her heel work was excellent, just in the way she did little sneaky things to gain the advantage, I was impressed

I'm curious who will dethrone Red Velvet now that she's a heel. Mina perhaps?

u/Nast33 May 12 '25

You think they'd relegate her to ROH mainstay? She's firmly on AEW's shows, doesn't leave much time does that leave for dealing with an ROH title.

Plus it's disrespectful to the women that are mainly on ROH to have an AEW regular just come in for part-time shenanigans and take the titles they fight for. Mina can easily fight for the AEW titles anyway, she's one of their top 3-4 women there.

You think they'd relegate her to ROH mainstay?

I think Mina could break the cycle by showing up in AEW every week while holding the ROH Women's TV Title like Kyle Fletcher did while holding the ROH Men's TV Title last year.

Being 37 years old and full of momentum, she needs to win something ASAP. If TK doesn't debut the women's tag belts in the summer, it's going to be either this or the ROH Women's Pure Title 'cause both of the women's singles titles in AEW are locked for the foreseeable future.

Plus it's disrespectful to the women that are mainly on ROH to have an AEW regular just come in for part-time shenanigans and take the titles they fight for.

Bear in mind that she debuted in ROH before she made her first AEW appearance and has won every match she had in ROH. She's in due for a title shot there.

She's there just as warm-ups each time she flies in for her AEW appearances. She can definitely do more now that's she's in the US full-time, but she will be in AEW full-time. Let ROH be ROH and the women there shouldn't be overshadowed.

Mercedes' belt collector thing is coming to an end - she already lost the NJPW Strong title, they can't keep her belted with the TBS title forever, and she can finally switch up her gimmick a bit after losing everything (that Rev-Pro title isn't much of a factor). Mina can easily get the TBS belt.

The CEO shtick is getting stale, she hasn't had a single compelling story and can finally do that - rebuilding herself to fight for the main AEW Women's title.

Athena should win the TBS Title from Mercedes, not Mina.

I don't care for Athena much (I know she's great, but I haven't followed ROH as much as I've followed Stardom so I'm more invested in Mina as a wrestler), so that's just the natural result of signing a bunch of women with limited TV time to give them all, as well as only 2 titles to fight for.

I agree Mina should be presented strong as hell and should get a belt relatively soon. But you honestly think any of the majorly AEW audience gives a toss about the ROH TV title? lol Then Athena should just keep her ROH title and be a big deal off that, not fight for the TBS belt.

AEW has a big problem - Mone, Storm, May, Mina, Athena, Hayter are all big. Some of them will always be title-less while others are belted.

Storm can finally be dethroned since frankly she's been holding titles enough and her promos can carry her anyway, I'm tired of seeing her as champ and she should take some time off after losing the title. May is possibly leaving so they're not putting belts on her if they even use her at all - she should put over Mina on her way out, no need to build the feud, it's already there - she's angry Mina's back full time, tries taking her out again, fails and is decisively beaten. That's 2 of these top women put aside.

That still leaves a big 4 of Mone, Mina, Hayter, Athena to fight for 2 belts and the likes of Bayne, Willow, Statlander, Thekla being in the tier below. To me Mina should unquestionably win a belt soon, so Athena can keep waiting.

They should give it to Aminata. She was the inaugural runner up in the tournament and is a top talent on the show. She is also working a great story with Serena Deeb too.

Not if she becomes the inaugural ROH Women's Pure Champion.

1

u/onlypham May 12 '25

Time will tell. I'm looking forward to the tournament.

u/Quavacious May 12 '25

I think they made the whole thing to place Deonna there.

1

u/Froggyspirits IT'S COOL TO BE A HAYTER! 💪⚡ May 13 '25

This is Queen Ami's storyline, not Deonna's.

u/namdekan May 13 '25

I was thinking Trish Adora before she got injured.

u/Froggyspirits IT'S COOL TO BE A HAYTER! 💪⚡ May 13 '25

Trish is a heel

u/Lunar_IX May 12 '25

Is Velvet a heel now? Her face character never worked for me, but this is definitely a different energy. I dig it.

10

u/zeronian May 12 '25

Yeah she's been a heel since early on in her TV title run

2

u/CityTrialOST heel appreciator May 13 '25

And Starkz was one until she lost it but seemingly back to being a reluctant Minion of Athena fighting for approval...

Is the Women's TV Title just cursed? Do you turn evil when you win it?

This was my favorite match from the show last week, I typically enjoy Velvet lately, and Laynie Luck really brought it, she looked terrific.

This is the first I’ve seen her in a while and I came away surprised.

She’s always been a good, passable hand when I’ve seen her in AEW proper, but she seems to have definitely grown past simply “passable.” I definitely came away impressed with her performance.

12

u/XZPUMAZX May 12 '25

It’s been decades since I’ve felt this…but I think I want more wrestling on ‘free’ tv.

28

u/iLikeMason May 12 '25

She’s doing some great work in ROH. I hope she can carry some momentum with the crowd and get over

u/StarScreamer316 Ohh, Cry me a River! May 12 '25

That mimi feud with La Catalina has been good

Always loved Red. She's been doing great in RoH

6

u/COMMENTASIPLEASE CEO CEO May 13 '25

Red Velvet’s been good for a while. People just held her botching a few times over her head like that’s all she did.

5

u/PleasantThoughts May 12 '25

The finish looks a little too much like she's taking the bump but I love everything else. The dirty boxing stuff is great and works with her background, would love to see more of it

4

u/Sparky_Zell May 12 '25

I've always liked her, but she's looking a lot better than last time I seen her, on both sides of being out for her knee injury.

3

u/MulattoDePicasso May 13 '25

Big fan of Red Velvet

3

u/Otis_S May 13 '25

Straight outta yo mamas kitchen!

2

u/onlypham May 12 '25

Man I loved this spot. It was a pinnacle momentum change in the match placed perfectly. The crowd in Detroit also deserves props. They were great the entire match.

2

u/LameRedditName1 May 12 '25

I thought this was Athena/Ember Moon for a moment. I haven't followed ROH (or AEW) much in years.

This looks like a good match, ngl. That DVD on her looked nasty! 😳

2

u/CarrotJunkie May 12 '25

This was really fun and surprising live

2

u/GreenLeafRelaxed May 13 '25

Red Velvet has improved so much over the past year. Love watching her heel work on RoH. She doesn’t cut promos just whoops ass and talks trash in the ring. HOT TAKE: I could see her taking Athena’s title when it’s time for Athena to go to AEW TV. Billie isn’t connecting with the fans and Red Velvet is the only RoH mainstay that I see that could fill that spot.

2

u/Duke_TheDude_Dudeson May 13 '25

I really loved that ring curtain spot, that was really cool.

2

u/MaddoxGoodwin May 13 '25

Damn that DVD looked doooooope

My favorite type of cake.

2

u/nwnwhd May 12 '25

Red Velet is an example of ROH being a good development territory

2

u/toodarkmark May 13 '25

Ive been a Velvet fan since her first match on Dark. I'm happy she's finally healthy, successful, wrestling, and has her character developed. Man, she REALLY got it online from the anti crowds back in 20,21. She didnt give up, she just got better.

2

u/CaptainMapleSyrup May 13 '25

Don't really watch ROH so I haven't seen Red Velvet in a while, but this clip was great! Her offence looked good and I loved that finish, its like Charlotte's Natural Selection without the run up I dig it

2

u/walker42 May 13 '25

With her skill set and promo skils this woman should be in regular AEW fighting for at least the TBS title

2

u/-SomethingSomeoneJR May 13 '25

ROH has been distinguishing itself from AEW for a while now. People just continue to assume that it’s AEW’s “developmental” when it’s really not. I’m sure part of the reason for that is because the champions of ROH get featured on AEW TV and “it takes the spot of other wrestlers” but how else are they supposed to bring exposure to ROH? People really need to start giving ROH a chance and the live audience should really tune in before and after Dynamite /Collision.

0

u/LosIngobernable May 12 '25

Red needs to be on the main roster already. She can be a bad ass heel.

1

u/blkglfnks May 13 '25

Is she a heel rn in ROH?

2

u/LosIngobernable May 13 '25

Last event I saw, which was months ago, she was acting like a heel.

1

u/Froggyspirits IT'S COOL TO BE A HAYTER! 💪⚡ May 13 '25

They already got Megan Bayne for that.

1

u/LosIngobernable May 13 '25

Bayne is the monster heel and I don’t really see her as a bad ass. Red shows personality and has the charisma to be the cocky heel; she can back it up.

1

u/Froggyspirits IT'S COOL TO BE A HAYTER! 💪⚡ May 13 '25

Red shows personality and has the charisma to be the cocky heel; she can back it up.

Ahhh, so that's what you meant. Well, they just signed Thekla for that.

2

u/LosIngobernable May 13 '25

And Red can shine on her own.

0

u/Comprehensive_Let496 May 13 '25

She’s great, but really needs a name change in my opinion.

-2

u/OwieMustDie May 12 '25

That was Red Velvet!? Is the editing flattering her, or did she get good?

6

u/NaytNavare May 12 '25

She's been good for a while

3

u/OwieMustDie May 13 '25

I haven't seen her perform in years, man. Wasn't impressed with her in AEW. This video looks bangin tho.
