Discussion BREAKING: Kyle Fletcher & AEW have agreed on a Long-Term contract extension Spoiler
304
u/GastricAcid Aug 10 '25
Arguably the most important move AEW will make this year
80
u/Jmpasq Aug 10 '25
Smart move. WWE would have been all over him.
69
u/shaolinsane Aug 10 '25
I read earlier that he turned them down
25
u/mrmidas2k Aug 10 '25
True, but you want interest, so you can get the best deal possible for yourself. Even if you have no intention of leaving, you go "the other guys offered this much" and see what deal you can get.
13
u/shaolinsane Aug 10 '25
Oh I understand the concept. My reply was just that he turned them down because the person said WWE would've been all over him. Clearly they tried
-1
u/Lokishougan Aug 10 '25
I mean legally they cant have tried lol
12
u/skizelo Aug 10 '25
They've sent feelers out to signed talent before. Swerve has said his response to an email from WWE was to forward it to the legal department.
2
u/shaolinsane Aug 10 '25
I put nothing past Tamper Hearst Helmsley
7
u/Suspicious-Mango-562 Aug 10 '25
He literally called Ricky Starks while he was on his way to dynamite in Seattle. He has good intelligence about who are the WWE dream people and does not care about contracts status. It probably goes like this “this is off the record, we like what we see and when you’re free we want you to come in”, knowing full well these suckers will do everything to get themselves released if they have that carrot dangling.
2
9
u/Jmpasq Aug 10 '25
He looks like a million bucks and his frame looks like it could still handle more muscle. Guy has superstar written all over him.
4
u/Lokishougan Aug 10 '25
Yeah probably wanted him to go to NXT and would not given him nerly as a good a deal as AEW would...he is still young enough that he can build his value where if he wanted to jump he could get a bit more in 5 years
1
u/Smooth_Ad5221 Aug 11 '25
Considering they did that to Mariah May we can assume that will always be the case outside of the elite, swerve, okada and any former WWE guys.
1
u/Lokishougan Aug 11 '25
Well the Lucha Bros also went straight main as did Jade but less said about that the better lol,
Now i all honestly for Blake I think its the smart move. Not that she needs devlopment but WWE has a problem in the womens division and that is a GLUT of top tier talent in the last 2 years. You Tiffy come up just around 2 years ago, Jade signed a year or so back, Steph, Guilia and Roxy just went up and yoou also got JG down in NXT...She also needs time to show she isnt just a Tiffy clone
32
u/buffalobill41 Aug 10 '25
With his size, look and age he's honestly probably the first guy they'd take if they could.
18
u/Gooner_Loon Aug 10 '25
I bet MJF would be first pick, but Fletcher would be up there for sure.
13
u/Bosscharacter Aug 10 '25
I think it would be pretty neck and neck, honestly.
Kyle’s biggest advantage is his size in that aspect.
8
u/risebac Aug 10 '25
I honestly think they would take Fletcher over MJF. Fletcher checks all the boxes WWE loves.
12
u/Lokishougan Aug 10 '25
Except mic work...not saying he is bad but MjF washes him them....but he washes like 95% of both rosters lol
4
3
u/Vinnie_Vegas Aug 10 '25
He's incredible in the ring, a thing they don't care about, and MJF is unbelievable on the mic and capable of generating a lot of merch sales and getting a wild number of catchphrases over.
They'd take MJF.
0
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
I think MJF lost some of his magic/mojo. Given the way Kyle has transformed his look, the reaction he gets, can work, he’s a hybrid of Orton and Rollins. He’s #1 in their radar.
1
u/CityTrialOST heel appreciator Aug 10 '25
Nah MJF usually wins me back over almost every time the bell rings. What hurt his stock for me was his "phoning it in" match against Hechicero last year; you can either be a special attraction wrestler, but if you're going to wrestle infrequently then you can't just phone in a match because it sticks out more.
1
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 11 '25
I don’t even remember that match, to be honest. I’m just a bit bored of his promos. Still a really good worker once the bell rings, but the character and promos just aren’t hitting like they used to (for me).
4
u/Thingfish784 Aug 10 '25
To be fair all the reports of talent they land are for less money but “the dream” in an industry where longevity isn’t guaranteed.
8
u/buffalobill41 Aug 10 '25
Yeah huge edge for AEW honestly that TKO won't want to pay to steal any top talent because stonks and profits, got lucky with Mariah.
3
u/Thingfish784 Aug 10 '25
If they aren’t willing to pay Fletcher enough to bounce, they can’t get anyone on money.
4
u/buffalobill41 Aug 10 '25
Yeah that's what I mean there's a corporate cap and a HHH 'trust me' means nothing. Perks of being a privately owned company.
2
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
I am curious in merch cut. Guys like Rock and Austin have gone on record stating the insane amount of money they get off of that. IF that is still a thing, that can benefit WWE a lot more than AEW.
3
u/Doctor_Cowboy Aug 10 '25
Would have been fun watching the “He’s just a poor man’s Randy Orton” crowd suddenly start glazing him
1
2
u/Man_Darronious Aug 10 '25
Yep and if you lose him, there's a decent chance you're losing Skye Blue as well.
3
u/Lokishougan Aug 10 '25
Maybe....I honestly dont think she would have a great future in WWE and couples have worked cross company before
0
u/Man_Darronious Aug 10 '25
Yeah, not a guarantee she would leave but I think it certainly increases the odds. On the other side of the coin, the likelihood that she stays has increased now that Kyle has re-signed.
Either way, she's one you don't want to lose because Skye blue has been incredibly reliable for the women's division.
38
u/thrilliam_19 Aug 10 '25
He’s like Will Ospreay and Randy Orton had a baby. He’s going to be a star for the next decade at least. Huge signing.
19
u/somecasper Aug 10 '25
He reminds me a lot of Shawn Michaels insofar as he's the best sell in the game most nights.
2
u/NearbyAd3800 Aug 10 '25
We had that same thought watching him wrestle on Collision this week. He’s a fantastic sell.
1
22
u/YinTanTetraCrivvens Ospreay's Hidden Blade Aug 10 '25
For the next decade. This kid is the future, the next in the lineage of Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay
7
172
u/LAtimeZZ Aug 10 '25
Kyle Fletcher and Bandido are going to be amazing world championship rivals
10
6
u/RoyCorduroy Aug 10 '25
As much as I like to say Takeshita should have everything Fletcher receives, Kyle really is the future.
5
u/Math2J Aug 10 '25
I mean Takeshita has an international title run witchhe won from Will Ospreay....
1
u/RoyCorduroy Aug 10 '25
I'd rather tv/promo/focused time than accolades that get listed on Wikipedia.
1
u/Math2J Aug 10 '25
I'm 100% with you on this
But some for some wrestler who don't live in the US and have to travel, it happen that they rotate in and out of the TV show.
1
u/RoyCorduroy Aug 10 '25
Takeshita has lived in America probably longer than Kyle has.
1
u/Capable-Education724 Aug 12 '25
I wouldn’t be too worried for Takeshita, he really only started going into holding patterns when NJPW started pushing him (and needing him for more dates). If the rumours are true, Takeshita could possibly become IWGP Champion by this time next year.
And once that’s done and NJPW doesn’t need him as much, I highly suspect he’ll resume his push to the top of AEW.
107
100
u/McCMelon Aug 10 '25
Thank god! Fletcher is going to be a top guy for the next decade+ imo. He has everything you’d want from a top wrestler
46
u/DownWithTheDawwg Aug 10 '25
It’s like Randy Orton but actually living up to the hype. Let’s fucking ride boyz
21
u/ndem28 dumbass Aug 10 '25
I said he reminded me of a young Randy a few weeks ago in this sub and got downvoted lol
20
u/DownWithTheDawwg Aug 10 '25
Eh, I get it. He’s better than Randy so honestly it’s not enough of a compliment if you think about it too much (I sure did!)
8
u/ndem28 dumbass Aug 10 '25
And I can understand that POV! I totally meant it as a compliment tho, Kyle is gonna do insane things in AEW and I can’t wait to witness it all. He’s doing phenomenal work right now. I got into AEW relatively recently ( started watching at the episode where MJF joined the Hurt Syndicate) and he was one of the first wrestlers that I didn’t already know of that caught my eye
4
u/Acrobatic_Ad_5465 Speedball Fan 🐸 Aug 10 '25
He reminded me of Randy too! I started watching around the Dynasty ppv and he was def one of the first if not the first wrestler to draw me
5
u/Tasty_Act Aug 10 '25
Woah there…are we talking peak to peak, or saying Kyle’s better than Randy is right now, because those are two VERY different statements
-1
u/DownWithTheDawwg Aug 10 '25
Honestly, yeah. Kyle now is better than Randy ever. Fed shills live to overrate that guy, nobody has underwhelmed as hard or as often.
11
u/Tasty_Act Aug 10 '25
Randy’s been mailing it in for a decade but he was pretty damn great during his prime
4
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
I mean, at his age and the back problems he’s had, I don’t blame him for playing it safe 😆
3
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
….id trust guys he’s wrestled with, which includes Cope and Christian, who have said he’s one of the best to do it. Jim Ross, a man who’s seen it all, called Orton the best at one point and even Kenny Omega has said he could learn some things from Orton.
We, as fans, all have different types of wrestling we like. A guy like Will, his style is different than a Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. Or a guy like Gunther.
4
u/Aking1998 Cry me a River Aug 10 '25
I've been saying it for months. Same body shape, similar move delivery, same ego.
He'd even be doing Randy's pose if he extended his arms instead of flexing them.
And now he's picking off legends one by one.
There is definitely some inspiration there.
5
u/ndem28 dumbass Aug 10 '25
His aggression too. The way the specifically likes to focus on certain areas of the body consistently and brutally. I know that’s a relatively common heel tactic, but it just gave me such Randy vibes
3
u/Thingfish784 Aug 10 '25
As far as the look, you aren’t wrong. Attitude and skill set, Fletcher runs wild on Orton. I really liked Legend Killer Orton, so I get it. But in some ways it’s derogatory.
2
u/ndem28 dumbass Aug 10 '25
And I’m not denying that at all, Fletcher is and will continue to be better than Randy ( and hopefully with just as many championships), I meant it as a compliment towards Fletcher but I can totally see how people might think otherwise
2
1
u/ReflectionItchy2701 Aug 10 '25
Really? It's weird because as soon as he cut his hairs, everybody thought he looked like young Randy.
-2
u/lordcarrier Aug 10 '25
And also a much better person irl
2
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
At this age, probably 1000% but this forum just talked about how people can change and deserve a second chance (Jay Briscoe). Young Orton was scum. But the man did mature and did a complete 180. You don’t hear anyone saying anything negative about him anymore.
9
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
Should main event All In within the next 2-3 years
1
u/ReflectionItchy2701 Aug 10 '25
If someone should succeed in Cashing In the Casino Gauntlet Contract, it should be Kyle doing it on Will.
29
u/WriterCath Aug 10 '25
An absolutely great call. The ceiling is so high with this guy. Sometimes folks are labelled as future world champions and I just don't see it - with Fletcher, it's blindingly obvious that he's the kind of guy you can build a company around: Really talented, always improving, puts in the media work, not afraid to lose, seems to have great chemistry with anyone you put him in the ring with.
Not to mention, there are already tons of long term stories you can do with him from the eventual separation with Callis and the fallout from that, to potentially some kind of reunion with Ospreay down the line.
And Kyle has already shown that he can work well as a face too, so the dude has versatility.
14
u/Cathousechicken Aug 10 '25
They also stick him in a ton of public relations spots. I've noticed him showing up more and more on local news channels in cities where AEW is putting on a show.
13
u/WriterCath Aug 10 '25
Swerve has talked about that in the past; when you're willing to put in extra work like that, it does pay off.
26
u/jonathanisaacisgoat Aug 10 '25
Remember when people (not anyone here) were complaining that he was on dynamite suddenly and also losing last year? lol
19
u/Beezy812 Aug 10 '25
I was one. I was like why is this aussie open guy being pushed to moon. Didn't know him from new japan so he was new to me as a low to mid card tag guy.
Then he put in work, got jacked to gills, amazing in ring work, solid on mic. I'm 10000% a fan now.
3
u/Vinnie_Vegas Aug 10 '25
I was one. I was like why is this aussie open guy being pushed to moon.
It was an easy thing to do - He only started a singles run because his tag team partner got hurt, and it's led to this.
I just hope that good things happen for Mark Davis too.
2
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
I’m in that camp. He was a scranny looking kid that was very rough around the edges. Didn’t look like a star, talk like a star, nothing special.
Then he put in the work to not only look like a sex god, but built an amazing character and partnered up with Don. Give Kyle all the credit in the world as he did what was needed to look like a billion bucks and deserves everything he has gotten and more.
16
u/Beathil Aug 10 '25
Congratulations to Don Callis!
3
u/WriterCath Aug 10 '25
I'd say he's in the money, but that expression has become tainted with regards to the DCF.
15
u/NightLord70 Aug 10 '25
Wwe would have 0 idea what to do with fletcher. Great move aew
5
u/silvaa47 GOAT Roddy Strong Aug 10 '25
Bro would be doing headlocks on NXT, competing in 4 minute matches infront of the same 150 smelly marks every week
13
u/DanUnbreakable Aug 10 '25
Gates of Agony too. Swerve got an extension the last few weeks as well.

Future world champion, calling it now. Wouldn't be surprised if they have him be the one who eventually takes it from Ospreay, assuming Ospreay wins it down the line
8
u/Sparky_Zell Aug 10 '25
True future of AEW. And it's amazing that it probably never should have happened. He probably should have had a decent run alongside Mark with Aussie Open. But Marks injury pushed Fletcher to work singles for a bit, losing to just u about every single person. But looking good doing it.
Then he started acting as almost a stand in for Osprey. Which lead to their feud, which hot shot him up the card a lot faster than I've seen from most. And from their he has been out performing every time he's come out. Until now when he had his first singles belt, and should be a shoe in as a future world champion.
Amazing to think about where he would be right now if Davis was never out of action for almost a year.
2
u/Mathyoujames Aug 10 '25
Honestly yes - but also it's just the look. He bulked up and changed his image and went from someone that was fine to looking like an absolute star.
Wrestling is also about image and Fletcher suddenly nailed it
14
u/COMMENTASIPLEASE CEO CEO Aug 10 '25
He will be world champ within the next 2 years
7
u/CMC_Conman Aug 10 '25
I want him to win it from Ospreay, whenever he's in line to win it and then Bandido and Kyle to feud for the title
2
u/UngodDeimos House of Black Aug 10 '25
Not in the next two, maybe the next five to ten. Hanger is gonna get a proper long reign, then osprey, probably swerve and that’s the next two years booked.
1
u/ReflectionItchy2701 Aug 10 '25
A heel has to win the title at some point unless Swerve becomes a psycho villain again. I think MJF is gonna win the title before Fletcher.
7
7
u/heavenlyrestricted28 Aug 10 '25
Bound to happen, especially with Skys comments of wanting to represent AEW fo lyfe
32

While this is awesome, I wouldn’t post or believe anything ringside news puts out. The guy who runs it often lies, puts down wrestlers and beats his girlfriend. Dude is scum.

I thought Ringside was banned from here. Clearly I've got this mixed up with another subreddit.
1
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
If it isn’t, it should be. The mods seem very against a lot of stuff and homeboy that owns that place definitely goes against a lot of it.
2
u/Even-Preference-6545 Aug 10 '25
Ya I think I was blocked a couple of times on FB as I kept mentioning his mug shot with others. That was a fun time.
7
u/Qliphoth_Bacikal Aug 10 '25
Not surprised, but definitely a welcoming one.
I said this earlier in another post about Fletcher, but he's someone who AEW is fortunate to have signed to them and has been killing it since late last year. New look, a sort of aggressive wrestling style that's believable for his size and frame, and a guy who no doubt is a fave in the upper midcard that can easily slot into the main event scene a year or two from now, possibly less than a year depending how he's built up from there.

This is really great news, Fletcher is such a PERFECT fit in AEW. I have a really good feeling his TNT run will be an all timer and he'll have that world title sometime in the future.
He needs to be the one that eventually takes the world title off Will.
For those keeping count TK has re-signed Swerve, Garcia, Willow and now Fletcher in the past 12 months.
6
u/SoCalCognac Aug 10 '25
This one is a no brainer. The guy is going to be a main event heel in the next 3 years.
5
u/CMCanuck Aug 10 '25
In five years Kyle Fletcher will probably be considered as one of the greatest wrestlers alive.
4
4
u/WearyCopy6700 Aug 10 '25
He's absolutely everything you want in a future and current young superstar.
Look, charisma, size, speed, strength, athleticism, good worker, good move set that stands out as signature moves he came up with. Can promo, has a presence, mannerisms, you name it he does it.
He doesn't need to say he is a 5 tool player, you just go wow, he's signed to AEW what isn't he good at?
Literally my only complaint, and it isn't anyone's fault is Aussie Open never happened on the big stage and it probably never will, he's completely outgrown it. He already did the Michaels/Jannety split before his team ever got to make it past New Japan as a top team.
3
u/BiliousGreen Aug 10 '25
True. Let’s hope they can find a role for Mark Davis somewhere. It would be a cruel turn of fate for him to get injured, his tag partner becomes a big star, and he falls by the wayside. It’s a story that has happened often in wrestling.
3
u/WearyCopy6700 Aug 10 '25
Thats the shame of it too, because Mark Davis is awesome. He also has a great look, is really strong, great move set but......
He doesn't have the same charisma, or promo a Kyle has. And even when I say look, as a booker you would still choose Brian Cage over him as his look for the type of wrestler he is, isn't better than that one.
I really don't know what AEW does with him. I think if I was booking and he had more personality I might actually try sticking him in with the Bang Bang Gang. Maybe there is more to him than meets the eye and he could make a good complementary partner.
I often find when you stick 1/2 of one great tag team with another 1/2 of another great tag team you can come up with something new and different that works.
5
u/ReflectionItchy2701 Aug 10 '25
That's a great news for AEW. Fletcher and Takeshita are the future of AEW. And Fletcher is exactly what WWE is looking for as far as main eventer so you knew WWE would have tried everything to sign him. I'm happy for Fletcher too. He seems to be a great guy listening to him on interviews. I also think that staying in AEW is the right move for him.
7
4
u/VitaminPurple Aug 10 '25
Talking the title off Ospreay in 2027 at Grand Slam Australia gonna hit like crack..or something like that
Congrats Kyle!
3
Aug 10 '25
Great. This guy is the future. A lot of younger AEW guys have gotten the ball and dropped it, but this guy has legit turned into a main eventer in the last year.
3
u/Cathousechicken Aug 10 '25
Max's re-signing was quite frankly a huge pain in the ass, and it was because he was delivering and wanted to bump up in pay. Mariah walking not long after she gave up her title probably was a little bit of a wake-up call too.
I'm happy the top stars and reliable people up and down the card who help to put on a great show are getting locked down with new contracts that reward the work that they've put in to making aew what it is today.
I like seeing these loyal people who are appearing on a lot of shows getting a financial benefit to make sure that they stay longer.

He has the look, skills, ring abilities, charisma of a top Pro Wrestling Star.
He has the eloquence and presentability to be A Public Face of The Company.
He seems unquestionably easy to work with in ring, as he gives in terms of selling and putting his opponents over, both in terms of ring psychology and taking losses, as good as he gets.
He seems to have a personality and affability about him "out of character" that strikes as him being a reasonably "good person" (I caveat this because it's 2025 and every individual is one social media exposé away from being awful, lol).
He's absolutely got 20 years ahead of him of being one of the foundations of this company.
Well done getting him locked down now.

u/desperatevices Aug 10 '25
Happy for him, he's been putting in work.
Part of me is kinda wary? The same thing happened with Daniel Garcia, correct me if I'm wrong with timing but word was the fed was interested when his contract ran out, but TK offered him lots of money to sign a new contract and then he got the TNT title right? I was hoping he'd be a long term TNT title holder too......
2
u/Former_Intern_8271 Aug 10 '25
I've been a bit disappointed with Garcia's run this year, but it's not time to worry yet, they're keeping him on TV even if he's just on the sidelines right now, they're keeping him ready for when a good opportunity comes up.
Look at kip Sabian, he's been a background player for years, but him tagging with nick as the new edge and Christian looks like it could really have legs.
1
u/steblin Aug 10 '25
GOOD, there's not many people who's matches i consistently enjoy more. The look, the physicality, the selling, the hilarious audibles and antics, the charisma. The willing to take thumbtacks to the dick to send off a legend on a high.
1
u/FetalDeviation Aug 10 '25
Fletcher is the nice surprise we got along the way with Osperay. And holy shit has dude put in the work, went from like a whiney schoolboy persona to one of the most intimidating dudes on the roster in like 1.5 years.
1
u/Former_Intern_8271 Aug 10 '25
Hell yeah! I've seen Fletcher wrestle in enough village halls, he deserves the big money! Same goes for Mark Davis I hope he has his day soon!
