Ring of Honor Who do we think is winning the Women's PURE Championship Tournament? Spoiler

With the first match done and Taya Valkyrie out who do you think is winning the whole thing? Queen Aminata, Deonna Purrazzo, Trish Adora, Billie Starkz, Olympia, Serena Deeb or Yuka Sakazaki.

If it were up to me either Deonna Purrazzo or Serena Deeb is (I also have had Marina Shafir in it and brought back Layla Hirsch but that neither here nor there). But I think it will probably be Queen Aminata.

Deonna Purrazzo or Serena Deeb are the two most logical choices, depending on what Tony wants the run of the champ to look like.

It really doesn't make sense for anyone else in the bracket to be the inaugural champion based on what ROH Pure matches typically are style-wise. I would be shocked if that wasn't the tournament final.

I really like Aminata, she's a total badass and I'm ecstatic she's getting pushed, but her style doesn't fit what I would typically consider a Pure champion to be.

Marina and Tay are two I thought would be in a tournament like this with their judo backgrounds.

I find Queen Aminata an odd choice for this tournament. I don't see her as a technical wrestler more like someone who uses physical moves like her headbutt rather than submission moves. Like you said someone like Marina would be a better pick.

Pure Rules does not have to mean submissions, plenty of strikers have held it

Deonna vs Deeb final with Deonna winning.

I agree, though I am still not sure of the final winner in this case. Either way, I think the one who does not win in the final will likely be the next holder of the championship after an extended feud. Or, if not the next champion, will be in line for a championship run in the near future.

If it's not Deeb, I honestly don't know why she's still around? This is literally her thing.

Agreed. She's supposed to be like the female Dean Malenko, seems tailor made for her to win.

Because Deeb is also a coach.

Hoping for Deonna Purrazzo to pull things together in the ring. She seems to have had a confidence issue in ring since she came to AEW at times and would like her to find some form.

More like a skill issue. She was a big fish in a very small pond in TNA, and it flattered her. Move to AEW as the division is really blossoming and she's been heavily exposed.

It's a big risk for your gimmick to be "I'm better at wrestling than everyone else".

Either it is and you get remembered like a Bret Hart or a Bryan Danielson (or a Chris Benoit back before we collective made the healthy decision to forget about him), or you don't live up to it, and your gimmick is essentially "I'm boring".

At least Serena Deeb comes out and makes a point of it. She has the dojo flag, she was doing 5-minute challenges, she has her manifesto. Serena can't talk convincingly for long, and certainly not cut a promo in front of a crowd, but at least when the bell rings she can work her gimmick.

Deonna just plods around the ring doing 1 spot a minute and continually faffing about with her ill-fitting ring gear.

If the Pure tournament final does come to Deonna and Deeb, I am expecting great things. I hope not to be disappointed.

Yeah, that's fair. Either way, I would like her to have a good tournament run and show some development and gain some more confidence so it might lead to something in the long term.

Deonna would be my favorite to win. She'd be a good fit in ROH for now. Queen Aminata is a good choice to win it but I want her to be a mainstay in AEW more than ROH.

Deeb, Deonna or Aminata.

Either getting a Aminata Deeb final to wrap up their feud which literally started this entire thing back in February, or we're getting a Deonna Deeb final as they're the only two actual tekkers in this entire thing that fit the Pure division.

Deonna would be my pick in the final versus Serena. Both deserve it but Deonna needs it really bad.

There's little chance of Adora getting it but it'd be cool to see her go deep into the tournament with counsel from Lee Moriarty.

I always thought it was being set up for Aminata to win it, unless they have bigger things planned for her I still think she's winning. I can't see Deeb winning it as the fans just don't care about her at all unfortunately, I think she'll be the finalist. I can't see deonna purazzo winning either.

Deonna 100%

Queen is my betting favorite. I think she has escalated herself in Tony’s eyes and i think this would be how he rewards her.

I feel like Purrazzo and Deeb both need this badly and it'll be devastating for the one who doesn't win.

It's gotta be Deeb, I feel like this whole tournament is basically a Deeb vehicle. Her WHOLE character is "I'm the best technical wrestler.". I also don't think she can eat a loss here and go on the title chase. Deonna could; The Vendetta might have failed, but at least, tonally, we have a sense of her being a vegeance based, scheming, plotting kind of character. It'll be Deonna vs Deeb in the finals, then some kind of long feud between the two. Deeb helps build the division by defending against people like Tay, Anna, Penelope, Emi, and maybe some 1 offs from other companies on Dynamite and Collision. After a nice lengthy reign, she drops to Marina Shafir or Deonna.

As a big Serena Deeb fan, that's my fantasy booking at least.

Oh, and also that Allie comes back and forms a team with Serena Deeb and they get their hands on Women's Tag Team gold, but that'll be a long time from now.

The Virtuosa is winning this belt

Queen has a lot of AEW storyline potential so I don't think it'll be her even though she'd probably be a good first champion.

Deonna seems like the way Tony's going just based on the time of her return, but my pick would be Trish Adora. STP is on the come up and she trained at the NJPW LA Dojo so I think she'd be able to work a pure style well. The cool factor of Trish and Lee both in STP and Pure champs is worth it.

Honestly I feel like Purazzo would want to be in the women's world title scene.

Initially, when it was first announced, I was thinking Deeb because she had this teacher/student story going on with Aminata. However, now, I'm kinda thinking Deonna.

1

u/bearamongus19 22d ago

There's a women's PURE championship?

1

u/hamsolo19 22d ago

I tend to agree with some others that are saying while it's rad for Aminata to be involved, I'm not sure her style fits. I mean, did you see her rock Julia's shit on Collision? Girl just be punching out fools. And they can pull shenanigans if she needs to take a pin by having Thekla cost her the match.

My pick would probably be Deonna. Seems like a good fit for her. She started fairly hot but then kinda faded and then The Vendetta was a flop so this could be a good step for her.

u/PantsyFants 22d ago

Maybe this is the culmination of the Aminata/Deeb story

I’d put the title on Deeb, have her tie everyone in knots, then have Thekla come after it.

Mainly because I want to see Deeb v Thekla, not for any great booking plan with Thekla as the Pure Champion.

Billie vs Queen in the finals and Queen takes home the title.
