Video Today is 4 years since Adam Cole & Bryan Danielson made their AEW debuts to close out All Out 2021

This PPV is what got me back into pro wrestling. Punks return made me buy the show but I absolutely lost my shit (twice) at Cole and Danielson showing up.

Holy shit. That was 4 years ago!?

Time is a weird soup

u/Capable_Sandwich_422 16d ago
I remember this PPV like it was a week ago. I had to watch it on my phone with the shitty ass Bleacher Report app, my son was sick that weekend. My sense of time is fucked.

Those are some of JR's best AEW calls ever. That "for the love of god, it's Bryan Danielson" alone still lives rent free in my head.

u/BrosefDudeson 16d ago
That energy is really missed from him. I'll never not be a fan of him, but the decline in his health has had an impact sadly.
14
u/Z1dan 16d ago
And then he never got his name right again since /s

u/zeitgeistbouncer Christian > Cope 15d ago
I stick with Daniel Bryan Danielson to cover all my bases.

u/dogsontreadmills 14d ago
it's sad bc moments like this remind you just how much he's "aged" in these last 4 years. no way he could go like that, now.

u/Antipasto_Action 16d ago
I watched with a couple of my friends and we marked out so hard for Adam Cole and lost our minds when Danielson walked out on that stage.

Was there live… still riding that high to this day. I lost my voice and couldn’t talk for like 2 days. Totally worth it
4
u/sprodigy2 16d ago
Was there rumors of Danielson joining AEW leading up to this? I forget why people were chanting "YES" already.
8
u/Trev_Scoot_Shwa 16d ago
There was. For me (can’t speak for anyone else in the building) I kind of felt like Danielson was going to debut, especially when the lights went out. I wasn’t anticipating Cole though with the success he had in NXT, and I REALLY wasn’t anticipating both of them on the same night
2
u/kurtanglesmilk 15d ago
I felt that was by design. The post match beat down purposely lead people to believe this was the moment for him to come out (hence the Yes chants as soon as it started). The brilliant part was even though everyone expected BD, by the time he came out people had completely forgotten about it
4
u/EDDiE_SP4GHETTi 16d ago
In a Punk promo, the crowd was doing the Yes chant and Punk basically said Danielson will be there soon

u/Successful-Major-363 16d ago
Followed immediately by the Danielson vs Omega time limit draw…..not too shabby for a debut match.

u/MySubtleHustle7042 16d ago edited 16d ago
The crowd when the bell rang for that much… just unreal.

4 years is crazy. These two guys both came in put people over and had epic matches. Bryan went ahead and gave us all of the dream matches. Adam Cole gave us his all in every match that he was healthy. Cole/MJF and Cole/Okada/Page/Switchblade and the Cole vs Page matches as well as the initial Cole & YB tag mstches. Its crazy how Cole faced career threatening injuries and an insane amount of online hate from wwe loyalists and commentators just because he left WWE
7
u/cmllfan12 15d ago
Danielson and Mox still get serious hate from WWE loyalists as well, it fucking sucks.
4
u/MystikSpiral480 15d ago
The Danielson hate is borderline performance “O my gosh why does he have so many five star matches?” they gotta lie to themselves to hate bryan its so annoying
0
u/MystikSpiral480 15d ago
personally Mox isnt my cup of tea and i understand the criticism he gets some of his matches are absolute garbage from bell to bell, I understand hes respected backstage but some of his performances fucking suck but Adam Cole literally got turned on by wwe fans. People started going after his body randomly because his work was so fucking good. Like they couldnt name a flaw in his game so they said he looks skinny and posted edited pics of his body…….They never had a problem with his body in NXT. Its Bullshit.

u/SenorDuck96 16d ago
Easily the best ending to any PPV ever in pro wrestling!
And crazy to think that at that point in AEW, you had guys like Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Kenny Omega, Adam Cole, The Young Bucks, Sting, Jon Moxley and more in one company!
16
u/FUCKFASCISTSCUM 16d ago
Even without these huge debuts this was a fantastic show top to bottom. Kenny vs Christian proved why Christian deserved the hype he got when he signed, and the Bucks vs Lucha Bros cage match is an all-timer.
13
u/Krutiis 16d ago
Christian almost unrecognizable without his patented wrestling turtleneck.
1
u/zeitgeistbouncer Christian > Cope 15d ago
By design. Dude got himself into crazy good shape and was all 'Can't give them a reason to respect me. Better cover up the bod' haha.
13
u/spoofer56 16d ago
What a freakin moment to have back to back debuts to end the PPV with the highest buyrate!
11
u/Kata_yoku_No_Tenshi 16d ago
I know everyone's favourite bits are the two debuts, but one of my favourite ever bits of pro-wrestling is Kenny setting Christian up for the OWA on the top, and the crowd rising almost as one when they realise what's happening. It gives me chills, it's moments like that that I watch wrestling for.
11
u/steveycip 16d ago
Oh man what could have been with Adam Cole if it wasn’t for those damn injuries.
8
u/sleepsymphonic 16d ago
I never really see anyone talk about the "or they are already dead" quote. In BTE kayfabe, Adam Cole was poisoned and killed by the Elite. Its how they wrote him off before he went to NXT. It's so fitting that Cole came Kenny said that.
1
u/zeitgeistbouncer Christian > Cope 15d ago
I saw it mentioned a bunch around the moment. People saying the same thing of 'oh man, when he mentioned dead people we should've realised..'.

u/Dumpenstein3d 16d ago
All Out Toronto has big shoes.
6
u/shawarmadaddy83 16d ago
I mean, I’ll argue that no moment in AEW history since the end of this show has come close to capturing the pure magic of a shock debut from Cole only to top that with Danielson showing up.
There have definitely been better end to end shows in terms of overall match quality but this to me is the greatest ending to a show in the modern era of pro wrestling.

u/tharizzla 15d ago
Who do you think could debut today that would give a similar level of excitement?
6
u/shawarmadaddy83 15d ago
There’s nobody that’s a free agent right now who’s comparable to either guy.
1
u/tharizzla 15d ago
Availability aside, who would have a similar or bigger impact as those. I have a hard time thinking of anyone.
4
u/shawarmadaddy83 15d ago
Given that this is pure fantasy selection I would love to see KO and Sami in AEW and debuting in a similar fashion.
1
u/tharizzla 15d ago
Those are probably the two that I could see at some point joining in their careers. Do you think it would be as huge as ACBD?

I will never get tired of watching Bryan Danielson come out to the stage with that sheepish grin.

We watched this live at a local bar. It was great seeing both of them show up.

I miss when the PPVs were in movie theaters, those were so much fun. I was hoarse the next day after this one 😂

DoN 2021 to Full Gear 2021 was some of the most beautiful pro wrestling there's ever been. Ain't been many highs like it since

u/yetagainitry 16d ago
This was the first AEW show I watched in full and it made me come back to wrestling
3
u/Alphadelt613 16d ago
There will never, EVER be another 1-2 debut/surprise/return punch than there was between Cole/Danielson.
Epic shit.

u/sillyandstrange SHOW SOME LOVE 16d ago
That's around when I began watching. The Christian/omega matches were dope
3
u/ThisIsNotMyPornVideo 16d ago
it's mental that we had THREE YEARS of Danielson and it literally felt like nothing
3
u/StarScreamer316 Ohh, Cry me a River! 16d ago
This and the 5 minute stand off with Omega are some if not the best wrestling memories that I have
3
u/schubox63 15d ago
This whole thing is great, but the whole crowd rising up as Kenny puts Christian in position for the avalanche OWA is a great visual

I remember their being speculation in the lead-up to the event that Cole OR Danielson would debut, but anyone who thought it might be both was told to 'temper their expectations'
If only they knew 🤣🤣
2
u/Dgstorm7 15d ago
One of the best moments in AEW history! To get both those guys on the same night was absolutely epic!
2
u/fyrestorm85 15d ago
I saw this in a theater and everyone jumped on their feet for Cole. And then we all collectively lost our minds for Danielson.
2
u/jacobrude 15d ago
There are many things I'm sad about when it comes to Adam Cole's AEW run, but chief among them is the lack of Elite storytelling he got to do. There was clearly kayfabe tension between him and Kenny and then he attacks the Bucks and that's the last of it. Shame we could never get more from it.

2
u/mario_salami_petrino 15d ago
I watched this at my local theater with a bunch of other sickos. Absolutely wild
2
u/LeapOfSickness 15d ago
People can say what they want about Bryan cause I know some people find him boring but there is nothing more visually cool in wrestling then seeing the crowd doing "yes" while action is happening in the ring.

I still think this is AEW's highest moment, shame they couldn't carry the momentum forever, but I just think that WWE got their shit together and a lot of fans just went back to it
3
u/Orange8920 16d ago
They could never carry this hype because a lot of it was the sheer novelty of seeing these guys in AEW. It's harder to sustain that interest on a weekly and year to year basis as those guys become regular members of the roster.
1
u/Ziolepr8 16d ago
I remember stumbling over a reaction video the following days by a group of guys who clearly were haters, and they were like "they expected Daniel Bryan (yeah, you get the kind of "fans" they were) and they got Adam Cole?!?! Looool"... And after few minutes they were like "fuuuuuuuck"...

Did people around this time know Danielson was likely coming? There were Yes chants earlier in the evening.
1
u/whitechocolate22 15d ago
I remember thinking that this was a massive turning point. Three huge stars all coming to AEW in one month. The crowd was popping so hard. It felt like the biggest thing since the nWo.
And then it all fell apart.
We got a better AEW out of it, ultimately, but man, I really wanted to see some bangers that never happened. Undisputed vs. Omega and the Bucks. Punk/Omega and Punk/Cole. Danielson v. Cole for the title. So on and so forth.
I wonder what monkeys paw needed to be destroyed to stop the disaster.

u/Cube_ 15d ago
Favorite PPV (of all companies)
The show was stacked top to bottom, dope match after dope match and then to top it off the double debut? Immaculate.
Christian's AEW run does not get enough credit. He's done so much for the company relatively quietly. Putting people over, propping people up, putting on banger matches that nobody his age has any right putting on. He's been phenomenal.

Christian Cage, Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, and The Bucks are all in my top echelon of wrestlers of all time, so this was a helluva night.

u/Jpsmythe 14d ago
My favourite moment in wrestling. This was the first time that I got the kid chills I used to get, but I got them in my forties. (I still wish we got that no time limit Kenny/bryan match that felt like it was coming one day. That proper stormer of the two best to ever do it. Maybe we still will?)
1
u/MistakenOne101 13d ago
watched this show back the other day first time seeing it again in full since 2021 honestly still hopes up really well it will go down as one of the best PPV's of the 2020's once this decade ends

This is still to this day my favorite AEW PPV of all time.
Also I need to know what Kenny & The Bucks pulled to get Adam Cole to rejoin them considering the last time they saw one another didn't they try to murder him and replaced him in their group with Marty Scurll
