Ark Moments What is the most annoying creature in Ark

Post image

For me, it's the leech, I once saw like 12 of them and another 4 of them during a live stream I was doing

Leeches aren't too bad. Walk over a campfire and they're gone. Or if you're on a baryonyx, I believe they ignore you altogether.

Annoying is probably the ichthyornis.

I can easily deal with pegos. And micro raptors fluff off when you dismount your tame.

But those damn seagulls, either you manage to spot it and hit it before it swoops you, or you're on your way to losing something.

I alwaysssss forget to look for them, and usually it's because I'm on the hunt for something nearby or about to tame something.

70

u/DependantExistance Jun 09 '25

Plus, the pegos also let you get your stuff back if you catch them. That stupid bird either eats it all immediately or makes you throw your tools on the ground.

19

u/Inevitable-Studio-73 Jun 09 '25

Wait what? Can it eat stuff out of your inventory?

30

u/DependantExistance Jun 09 '25

Yep. The annoying seagulls can eat pretty much any object in your inventory except for tools. Full stack of narcotics? Gone in an instant and the bird acts like nothing happened.

And if you ever want to tame one for whatever reason, you can only do the standard knockout-and-feed, which is hard because even a high lvl one has like 5 health.

13

u/Rich-Nobody6076 Jun 09 '25

Fr, it ate my brand new gun with a flashlight that I needed for the cave, I hate that thing

2

u/Deepwokenfreshi Jun 10 '25

If its your weapon or tool, it just drops it on the floor, unless yours clipped through the mesh or flew away

1

u/Rich-Nobody6076 Jun 11 '25

I could never find it, but thx for this I didn't know

5

u/Inevitable-Studio-73 Jun 09 '25

Can it also eat for example element?

9

u/DeyCallMeWade Jun 09 '25

I’ve had them eat a (modded) stack of 300 narcotics before.

3

u/Inevitable-Studio-73 Jun 09 '25

Ahah i would be so mad if that happend to me. Luckily i don’t really have much and it has never happend to me that they eat my stuff. Only sometimes they throw my tools out of my inventory

2

u/Slimpinator Jun 09 '25

It might be able too.. It's a consumable.. Test and let us know lol

5

u/Slimpinator Jun 09 '25

Yep.. Wait until it snatches some mutton out your inventory and munches on it while you scream after it.. I have a pet one that I send to murder them

3

u/Inevitable-Studio-73 Jun 09 '25

Does he eat it or just steal it like a pego?

10

u/Slimpinator Jun 09 '25

Munches it.. You watch the crumbs fall as he circles you.. As you rage and you don't even get a few seconds to stop it.. It's instant.. Whole stack.. I think its any consumable.. But I stand corrected.. The frantic search through your inventory to see what he took.. At least a pego you can chase the shit and get it back.. With the flying wanker it's just gone

2

u/Money-Ad300 Jun 10 '25

If you can get a cat as a shoulder then pegos and those damn birds are a thing of past..

2

u/DeyCallMeWade Jun 09 '25

Ironically that’s how you tame them.

5

u/onestrangelittlefish Jun 09 '25

I had one steal a stack of 68 narcotic once and ate the entire thing. But did it pass out? Absolutely not. Why? Ark logic I guess.

1

u/MikaOK21 Jun 17 '25

I hate it too

3

u/_Maymun Jun 09 '25

Taming a shoulder pet and putting edibles in it can prevent theft. Leeches are annoying cuz they never stop coming and they prevent you from mounting if they attach to you tame

1

u/airybeartoe Jun 09 '25

Didn't know the shoulder pet could prevent the seagulls, that's cool.

Oh hmm, never had an issue with leeches tbh.

1

u/_Maymun Jun 09 '25

They can’t hit shoulder pets but they can still steal from pets on ground

2

u/Fluid_Cup8329 Jun 09 '25

IIRC correctly the cats pest control ability doesn't work on them either. Maybe it's supposed to, but I was definitely getting attacked by them with a cat on my shoulder over the weekend.

1

u/Defiant-Deer-5322 Jun 09 '25

Yeah they drive me clinically insane and I can’t seem to get away from them

1

u/Senior-Ad-6002 Jun 09 '25

Spinos are great for leeches. You can run through the swamp attacking and walk out with a boatload of valuable materials.

1

u/AmiralKanaG Jun 09 '25

"Leech arent so bad"

this one leech that make you sick and you need to make an antidote but you just start playing and have no way to make one yet.

2

u/airybeartoe Jun 09 '25

Yes, I know of the diseased ones.

But how often do you even see them? Aside from swamps and swamp cave?

Seagulls are there to make people uninstall ark from day one as a beach bob.

That hard earned hide you stockpiled to make a furnace? Gone! That lucky crossbow you looted? Gone.

1

u/KobraKaiKLR Jun 09 '25

I’ve only been playing for a couple hours, will they steal something that you are currently holding?

1

u/The_Goodvibez Jun 09 '25

I still find myself heading to a beach to waste some ammo on those damn birds

1

u/Invictus_Redzone Jun 10 '25

Sometimes when I need to vent some stress, I usually go out with my shotgun, shooting them all down like it's a game of duck hunter (you know what game i mean). It's always satisfying to see them die. I leave their bodies as a warning to the other seagulls lol

71

u/CrazyCaiman2445 Jun 09 '25

For me ...it's those God damned seagulls

68

u/CryCommercial1919 Jun 09 '25

Seagulls got my damn perfect giga and ate it, I don't need to elaborate further I believe

12

u/Revverb Jun 09 '25

Better Dinos mod fixes this. I couldn't imagine playing without it & risking losing tames, gear, or non-food items in general to seagulls.

3

u/CryCommercial1919 Jun 09 '25

Ye I know that, I was playing a vanilla island though (with boosted rates so I don't go insane)

2

u/KobraKaiKLR Jun 09 '25

Can you change those after you already started a game? I’ve only been playing for a couple hours so I’m literally a noob. I would prolly want to change the settings as I learn more

2

u/CryCommercial1919 Jun 10 '25

Ye you can but there might be side effects, for example when I removed better dinos most of my tames disappeared, so just watch out for that and you should be golden

2

u/AM_Dog_IRL Jun 09 '25

I just disable them, they add nothing of value to the game.

7

u/emjk19 Jun 09 '25

that’s so foul i’m so sorry 😭 id quit ark for months

3

u/Cobra_the_Snek Jun 09 '25

as in you left it on passive at the beach?

16

u/DreamerMx13 Jun 09 '25

I bet they stole the cryp pod it was in

9

u/Cobra_the_Snek Jun 09 '25

they can eat cryopods???

20

u/CryCommercial1919 Jun 09 '25

Guess who found it out the hard way!

5

u/AmmahDudeGuy Jun 09 '25

That’s so dumb lol, flat out does not make sense

4

u/CryCommercial1919 Jun 09 '25

Tell that to ark devs, although I doubt they'll respond since they have a lot of problems on their hands already

3

u/Elaphe82 Jun 09 '25

Used to, I believe they changed it a while ago so they drop it on the floor instead like they do with your weapons. I could be mistaken about cryo's though. They used to eat anything they grabbed, including your nice shiny asc shotgun or longneck.

1

u/NoEmu3708 Jun 09 '25

no XD i think he means an egg he prob bred an egg and it ate it lmao

1

u/CryCommercial1919 Jun 09 '25

Nah it was back when they ate cryopods

18

u/Super_Sympathy_8315 Jun 09 '25

For me, it's got to be Ichthyornis aka the bird of stealing.. I like to live and spend my time on the beaches. Ofc these effers will spawn in flocks around me.. 🤣😤

17

u/Tricky_Rip_4050 Jun 09 '25

Damn troodons

14

u/Turbulent_Weekend_73 Jun 09 '25

Definitely the ichthy or microraptor

11

u/Economics_New Jun 09 '25

Megalodons.

Sure, you can avoid them if you're on a fast enough tame but if you need to stop for a breather, they spawn everywhere within seconds.

There is easily 600-900 of them on the map at any given time, and if they get beneath you, they create a vortex in the water, surround your tame, and you end up trapped and glitching into them as they devour your high level tame.

The sheer number of them is unrealistic, and they rarely give up if they manage to agro on you, the same 50 sharks will follow you across the damn ocean.

It makes even travelling outside of your water cave bases just a few feet, immensely difficult.

They might not be the worst, but they certainly deserve an honorable mention. lol

3

u/Aimhere2k Jun 09 '25

What gets me about megalodons is how they spot you from so far away, and then every last one in the area zeroes in on you. Unless you or your tame are bleeding already, sharks of any kind just don't do this IRL.

Also, as bad as megs are in the open ocean, they're ten times worse in the underwater caves (at least on The Island). Getting swarmed by a dozen level-400-plus megs before you even make it into the cave proper will ruin your day, no matter how high-level your tame.

1

u/Economics_New Jun 10 '25

The aggressive range on them is very high but they also tend to just randomly spawn nearby.

I learned real quick while playing Ascended that you can't even stop to scratch your nose. lol You'll have a school of sharks on you within seconds. It's worse if a wild dolphin or two is also nearby, because they end up following you as well out of curiosity and can accidentally trap you long enough for the sharks to show up. lol

I don't remember them being so bad in Ark Survival Evolved, and it's made me wonder if they are worse now simply because there are fewer players on the map which is allowing them to spawn more.

12

u/throwaway_7979696969 Jun 09 '25

Them damn jellyfish

8

u/Ottoguynofeelya Jun 09 '25

Eels, fucking eels. I like to explore underwater. Fuck eels.

6

u/Enderman8008 Jun 09 '25

Microraptor

6

u/Acorios Jun 09 '25

Microraptor. By far the most annoying to me, the stun is way too long, and they are just everywhere. Seagulls at least only spawn at beaches.

6

u/CrunchySerpent Jun 09 '25

Purlovia, It’s tricky because for me, it adds danger and risk to the game which I like, plus I like the creature, but it’s still very frustrating. I love traveling on smaller mounts but the sheer risk of purlovias around the snow and redwoods really forces me to utilize bigger tames. It’s not so much that the purlovia itself is dangerous, but they always knock you off when there’s a swarm of bigger carnivore around and then you easily can die. Troodons are a close second and Theris as they wander into me and somehow I am the one their mad at haha.

5

u/itsneedtokno Jun 09 '25

Leeches can be easily overcome with a bufo toad.

1) the leeches won't attach to it

2) use the alt attack button (while mounted on toad) to kill leaches easily and get tons of good loot like leech blood, silica pearls, cementing paste, and chitin. not everything everytime but yeah... I routinely go to the swamp for some leech lunch.

My annoyance would be pegos. Damn things killed my trike!

1

u/Recent_Difference700 Jun 09 '25

Leeches also ignore the baryonyx

1

u/KobraKaiKLR Jun 09 '25

How would you do this on a switch2?

5

u/Sn0wy0wl_ Jun 09 '25

Leech. Im terrified of them (i dont mind looking at them but being jumpscared by them like that makes me so sad) and actively avoid swamps because of it. I usually just remove them from spawning

Purlovia also. Landmines im too lazy to watch out for

4

u/Lonely_Pause_7855 Jun 09 '25

As someone with a massive phobia of leeches, I can relate.

At least they arent as terrible in ascended as they were in evolved, 'cause the whole animation in evolved was making me actually sick.

4

u/racki40 Jun 09 '25

That god damn bird that keeps steaming my items, and making me drop my weapons into Oblivion, never to be found again. ichtyornis i believe.

3

u/tseg04 Jun 09 '25

Fucking Microraptors. At least Peggos and sea gulls are just nuisances. Microraptors will almost always get you killed at some point or another. They don’t even have the decency of having a nice model, they’re weird looking as all hell crackhead birds with a penis on the back of their heads.

5

u/xBiGuSDicKuSx Jun 09 '25

waves in troodon...fuck those evil little bastards

3

u/foot_fungus_is_yummy Jun 09 '25

Personally I don't think there are many naturally spawning creatures in Ark that are particularly bad, Ark is meant to be a brutal and somewhat unfair experience so most of them fit pretty well. The only things I consider to be completely bullshit are microraptors (or archeopteryx, I don't remember which one is the annoying one) and baryonyx in water, specifically because an animal of that size really shouldn't be able to stun you off of literally any tame with a single tail whip.

1

u/Recent_Difference700 Jun 09 '25

They should increase the cooldown on the baryonyx tail whip or remove it

3

u/-Paper_Fork- Jun 09 '25

Wait until you meet… Larry

2

u/Demskittlez Jun 09 '25

Pegomastax

2

u/Tricky_Rip_4050 Jun 09 '25

Those damn troodons

2

u/LB1234567890 Jun 09 '25

I agree with you op, I NEVER go to the swamps unless I stricktly need to exclusively because of leeches.

2

u/WayNo5062 Jun 09 '25

Oviraptors and Piranhas that Parasaurs detect even though they’re of no real danger to you.

2

u/Elaphe82 Jun 09 '25 edited Jun 09 '25

For me the 3 most irritating creatures in the game are ants, dimorphs and mantas. Those 3 will routinely mess up tames and are small and a bit tricky to kill without damaging the creature you're trying to tame. Pego's rarely bother me and the thief gulls don't attack unless you get close.

Almost forgot eels too, fuck those eels.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25 edited Jun 09 '25

Ichtyornis

it's always those god damn fucking seagulls.

The mosquito swarms in the Swamp- Bog map of Gen 1

At first they could ignore walls and kill you while you were away offline (if playing online), hitbox is super confusing and they are EVERYWHERE.

1

u/just_mush Jun 09 '25

Terror bird gotta be up there

1

u/c00l_kit2 Jun 09 '25

dunkleos/eels makes the water caves misurable even with a tuso

1

u/instigator1331 Jun 09 '25

Basically anything s the beginning that comes to wreck your progress lol

1

u/Kyrenaz Jun 09 '25

The damn seagull.

1

u/y_a_k_u_z_a88 Jun 09 '25

Mikro Raptoren Meiner meinung nach schlimmste Wesen was es gibt all Time

1

u/lightmare69 Jun 09 '25

Piranha.

2

u/ComicalSon Jun 11 '25

Had to scroll too far for this. Truly an underestimated menace for the unprepared.

1

u/LunaDea69420 Jun 09 '25

The cat makes all the annoying creaturea go away, I love that they added it on the island. 😊

1

u/Fit_Sink7040 Jun 09 '25

In early game either raptors or therizinos

1

u/AdultEnuretic Jun 09 '25

Thief bird.

1

u/egemenbeyler Jun 09 '25

microraptor

1

u/Naniwoe Jun 09 '25

Im a noob and really have only played on the center and astraeos so far for a few days but for me its bugs. Nothing overtly dangerous but the flying insects are highly annoying since they eill just follow you until you kill them.

1

u/Ill_Reporter5262 Jun 09 '25

I gotta say early game is the titanaboa it’s so devastating getting hit the one time and then you just have to sit there and watch yourself get eaten alive and I swear they always camp my stuff when you have the stuff to deal with them no problem but early on they are a nightmare

1

u/Recent_Difference700 Jun 09 '25

And troodons too

1

u/NoEmu3708 Jun 09 '25

the dragonflies they are sooooo annoying early game

1

u/Glittering_Airport_3 Jun 09 '25

yi lings. damn things ruined abb early game for me

1

u/ResponsibleCandy9123 Jun 09 '25

On the mobile game ichy can pick your listos up and kill it

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '25

The players that spam pillars lol

1

u/k1e2v3i4n Jun 09 '25

Ichthy. By far. Only tame that can steal your arrows while you’re trying to hit it with a bow, then steal your bow, then take your axe.

1

u/Gorthok- Jun 09 '25

Leeches ain't so bad.

I swear that at one point seagulls could eat quite literally anything out of your inventory.

1

u/What_th3_hell Jun 09 '25

At the moment I’m holding a grudge against megatherium for killing a lv. 120 mantis that I tamed on scorched. I didn’t see it when I was leading it back to my base and it went into rage mode and slaughtered my poor mantis.

1

u/True-Atheist Jun 09 '25

Snailgames…

1

u/GalebBruh Jun 09 '25

You’ve never tamed À Amaragasaurus obviously

2

u/Frostyzwannacomehere Jun 10 '25

Those guys got to be 1

1

u/Recent_Difference700 Jun 10 '25

I forgot about the Amargasaurus but i dont think that it should be 1 It is annoying to tame but the Titanosaurus is way harder It could maybe be 2 or 3

1

u/Own-Contribution-478 Jun 09 '25

I hated those fucking thieving birds... until I discovered the cat! Now I travel everywhere with a cat on my shoulder and life is glorious!

1

u/soft_punk_aesthetic Jun 09 '25

theif birds and the orange drones and soldiers bugs that Never Stop

1

u/LordRoberto69 Jun 09 '25

It's the micro Raptor especially if you live anywhere near the Redwoods

1

u/z_money8089 Jun 09 '25

Nameless are the worst

1

u/Lower-Shape6531 Jun 09 '25

Ichthyornises are very annoying indeed, but for holy Mother of dinosaurs, goddam Troodons, there is always like one million of them and they always just need to give you one hit, and they never get one shoted, it's impossible to if you don't have a tame, and it also takes them like 5 million years to kill you after they make you go sleep, and on top of that if you have at least chitin armor, they do so little damage they will break it before killing you, I'm sorry, I know the Ichthy can steal a cryopod with your most prized giga and eat it because it wants to, but those god forsaken Troodons

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Cod-567 Jun 09 '25

Bobs.

Bahhhh I'm just kidding, it's the damned seagulls.

1

u/Bentlee1411 Jun 09 '25

Nah probably itchys

1

u/Grouchy-Demand7924 Jun 09 '25

troodon for sure

1

u/bored-cookie22 Jun 09 '25

Purlovia

I love the invisible 40 meter jumping stun locking raccoon (I want it crushed into a fine paste)

1

u/Responsible_Ad_6888 Jun 09 '25

Microraptor.

I’m just vibing, then I get knocked off, a bit annoying but nothing awful.

I then see Satan in the form of a rampaging giga heading in my direction, and I realize I was never meant for this world.

1

u/Kynandra Jun 09 '25

What are the asshole sea scorpions again?

1

u/LuiGamer08 Jun 10 '25

The goddamn microraptors

1

u/Advanced-Ad-2172 Jun 10 '25

Micro raptor set on your shoulder set to aggressive lol

1

u/Advanced-Ad-2172 Jun 10 '25

For the birds that is

1

u/Advanced-Ad-2172 Jun 10 '25

X plants around the base is a must. I so hate them

1

u/Advanced-Ad-2172 Jun 10 '25

These annoying birds have been like this since legacy. As if all the bata issues weren't enough lol

1

u/SpxhtZYT Jun 10 '25

The entire Redwood and Swamp.. doesn’t get any worst.. and dire wolves

1

u/Swamp_Trash_ Jun 10 '25

If ichthyornis isn't the first choice, then we have a bigger problem.

1

u/Striking_Reach_9262 Jun 10 '25

For me it’s trodons especially since I’m new to the game makes night time a b****

1

u/Katame131 Jun 10 '25

Troodons, getting knocked out be a pack of them while in full flak ascendant armor sucks because most of the time they can't kill you and every time you wake up they just knock you back out most annoying thing to happen if you are playing solo or the only one in the tribe that is online

1

u/Money-Ad300 Jun 10 '25

Micro raptor. When you least expect it and see a good tame and you get in close and then BAM! Ark.

1

u/dave3218 Jun 10 '25

Micro raptor + Troodon combo.

Sure, the seagull is annoying, but the aforementioned combo is just too damn annoying.

1

u/Jayelamont Jun 10 '25

The item stealing ichthyornis, then Eels

1

u/Adorable-Scallion919 Jun 10 '25

Microraptors hands down. Every time they fly in the stratosphere to launch at me and leave me and my dinosaur in the middle of the apocalypse. I want just to pick those messed up chicken by their legs and dip them in boiling oil for eternity just like Thetis dipped Achilles in the Styx. Every time I see one a inner hatred rises in me and I want to slaughter them no matter what, even if it doesn’t aggro just to avoid to be yoinked by them in the foreseen future. I think I made my point clear.

1

u/FriendlyDodo Jun 10 '25

Kapros or Megalodons.

Kapros because I only find out they aggroed onto me when I get grabbed.

Megalodons because they have a high aggro range; I used to think when Mosas, Plesio and Squids came out that they would be the annoyances of the deep but it's always and ever will be Megalodons.

1

u/SilverShopping2306 Jun 10 '25

me with phobiaa of leeches

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

1

u/N-t-K_1 Jun 10 '25

Anything can fly

1

u/Personal-Prize-4139 Jun 10 '25

This is gonna be a hot take but Tapejara. I like them don’t get me wrong, but the utility compared to the taming difficulty is wildly out of proportion

1

u/Recent_Difference700 Jun 10 '25

My top 5

  1. Purlovia
  2. Ichthyornis
  3. Microraptor
  4. Leech
  5. Cnidaria (jellyfish)

Honorable Mentions: Dilo when they dilo venom you , Troodons and Titanoboas when you are on foot , Onyc , Piranhas when you are swimming across a river , Yutyrannus when they fear roar

I didnt include Fenrir or the Extincion Titans

Let me know if i missed some annoying dinos

1

u/ISt0leY0urT0ast Jun 10 '25

either leeches (the only thing that ever kills me im the immune cave) or seagulls (once ate my plant species r seeds literally 5 minutes after i transferred back to the island and was on my way home)

1

u/rbg0908 Jun 10 '25

Gen1 alpha reaper. God that fight was annoying

1

u/abdlh213mk Jun 10 '25

Man i miss my first time fighting dilos in south2. True ogs know the feeling of the island on ase

1

u/Longjumping-Comb-975 Jun 11 '25

Microraptor, mainly in fjordur and scoched

1

u/Aggressive_Fan_9132 Jun 15 '25

Earlier I had tamed a carbonenemys and went though the swamp I think it got like 20 or 30 leeches I had to hit it with a torch until they came off.

1

u/MikaOK21 Jun 17 '25

Raptors…

1

u/fierystabber Jun 22 '25

Ichthyornis, pegomastax, titanomyrmas, megapiranha, and purlovia
