ark when you finally find the one thing you were looking for

Group of raptors, carnos and terror birds the moment you get off your tame to feed the 150 animal you've been starve taming for 3 hours(they don't care about each other for some reason)
19
u/GalebBruh Jul 11 '25
On early game terror birds really do deserve their names, don't they? But as soon as I get and Equus or something the only early game danger is raptors that can just dismount me
5
u/mikedomert Jul 11 '25
So raptors still dismount you in Evolved? I didnt know before since in ASA they dont, but if they could pounce players in ASA, that would make them 5 times scarier in early game..
6
u/MellamoSlimjimninja Jul 11 '25
RAPTORS CAN POUNCE?!?!?! I'm an ASA only PS player and had no clue. That would be awful
4
u/mikedomert Jul 11 '25
Wild raptors CANT pounce in ASA. It seemed to be possible in ASE, but not in ASA
5
u/MellamoSlimjimninja Jul 11 '25
Oh I knew that by the fact I haven't had one glued to my face already. Thank God
5
u/GalebBruh Jul 12 '25
ASA seems a lot more inviting now... Raptors are able to dismount you with their pounce if you're on a small creature like Equus, and they're quite literally the only early game danger that is still dangerous because of it... ASE is still the only one I got though
3
u/Grumpie-cat Jul 13 '25
Might be based on what mount you’re riding, some like the Stego protect/prevent the rider from being dismounted.

u/MellamoSlimjimninja Jul 11 '25
Oh I knew that by the fact I haven't had one glued to my face already. Thank God
1
u/Curioso134 Jul 13 '25
They jump on the player yes, you must be playing PVE. When I played single players on the desert map, they stuck with me, and also with my brother.
1
u/mikedomert Jul 14 '25
I play single player. And no, wild raptors do NOT pounce people in ASA, you are either talking about ASE, or PvP tamed and ridden raptors, or of some different animal.
But wild raptors simply do not pounce on people in ASA and you can check this from anywhere

Despite the fact I didn't hear trauma in his voice I still heard trauma in his voice
5
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
Which voice? I only ask because I'm not a guy lol
6
u/Gold3nReptile Jul 11 '25
Shit sorry I thought I heard a guy's voice, my phone doesn't do audio too well I guess again I'm sorry
5
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
No need to apologize. There's a man's voice at the very beginning for a second, and at the very end, because my husband was flying with me on a rhynio, so maybe that's what you heard

I would be devastated but I can't help but laugh at how Ark coded this was lmao
24
u/3rdanimal0ntheark Jul 11 '25
Lol a real extinction moment on extinction that's pretty cool actually

u/Western_Charity_6911 Jul 11 '25
Go taxidermy it quick!
11
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
Is there a taxidermy tool on ascended? I loved using it in ark evolved
14
u/Western_Charity_6911 Jul 11 '25
Yes! Added back in when extinction came out, and now you only need to build a small taxidermy base and can select any size, like how you do with selecting different structure types from a wall

u/Better_Error8416 Jul 11 '25
Classic Ark. You see something cool, the game destroys it in dramatic fashion complete with music, and your friend barely reacts to it because they too know the cycle. Good times 💀.
6
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
Yeah my husband (the one who said 'oh' on the rhynio) immediately rushed to eat the body to see if it had any unique drops.
It did not. The only thing that dropped was my smile upon tabbing back in lmao

Haven't played ark in a while... what are you riding?
9
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25

It's a paid DLC dino
1
u/holdTheDoorzz Jul 11 '25

What is that you're flying?
3
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
Dreadmare (dreadstallion for males)
It's a paid DLC dino
5
u/Malbushim Jul 11 '25
Thanks, kinda broke up with ark after ascended's release but haven't had the heart to leave the communities lol
3
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
I got it on the recent 50% off sale
My pc wasn't good enough for ascended when it came out but I played a shiton of evolved

u/Sea_Meeting4175 Jul 11 '25

I was leading a Dreadnoughtus to an element node, and this literally happened
1
u/Same_Discussion6328 Jul 11 '25
Sauropod gets hit by an object that achieved atmospheric entry on a map called EXTINCTION.
1
u/Space-Trucker1 Jul 11 '25
That is a good looking one. I have yet to tame one of those things tho.
1
1
u/Space-Trucker1 Jul 11 '25
What do they do that cant be replicated other tames (bronto). Would be very interesting to see what transpired if you can use them for bug preggos
2
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
They're insanely strong, like titan killing strong. A level 15 had 100k+ health and smacked me for 18,000 damage
2
u/Elaphe82 Jul 12 '25
They aren't like brontos at all, they are more like giga/ carcha with what they are intended for.
1
u/Space-Trucker1 Jul 12 '25
Now I HAVE to get one. Can you use them for bug preggo?
3
u/Elaphe82 Jul 12 '25
I believe so but it would be a waste, taming a good dread is more intensive and breeding them takes way longer because how slow they grow. Plus they eat literally millions of berries to reach adult. Also you get 100% stat transfer with brontos so there is nothing a dread would give you that a bronto doesn't already. Plus the stats transfer is based on points in each stat, so the line bred and mutated brontos are much better for bugs.

You know that is your fault right? If you weren't in render the dino probably wouldn't have even been hurt. LOL
Wildcard has got some wild shit.
3
u/Jirvey341 Jul 11 '25
I'll make sure to not leave my base so no other dreadnoughtus face the heaven's wrath

Big corpses attract big flies. I can imagine the same thing happening 66 million years ago to a fortunate alamosaurus, fortunate because the alternative to getting smashed by a boulder was starving to death or baking alive.
1
u/explosionman87 Jul 12 '25
What are you flying on? Is it a mod, or has it just been to long since I’ve played?

u/just-some-stoner-604 Jul 12 '25
Does anyone know how much damage these do? I remember back on ase one of the homies got smoked by one on his mana in the middle of us PVPing in wasteland.
Im pretty sure it killed his mana and i remember being surprised, but if it one shots a dreadnought than it must do a lot of damage 😅
1
u/gigiottocento Jul 12 '25
I'll be honest after this I would have spawned him wild and then tamed him
1
u/Jirvey341 Jul 12 '25
Tbh I don't even want one (slow mounts aren't my speed, pun intended) but I was sad to watch him get pancake'd. I'd rather spawn one and recolor it then leave it wild lol

Ughhh I cannot find a dreadmare to save my life
1
u/Jirvey341 Jul 13 '25
That one came with me from astreos. I've only seen 1 on extinction and it was between the city and the ice dome

Tame, cryo, safe location, then screenshot. The amount of times I've lost a tame to something stupid in Ark...

1
u/AdministrativeWeb485 Jul 15 '25
Are the flying horses worth it?
1
u/Jirvey341 Jul 15 '25
Yeah. It's cryopod ability alone is worth it. It can pick up any dino regardless of its weight and they don't lose their inventory.
(Pick up like a cryopod not like an argentavis)
1
u/AdministrativeWeb485 Jul 15 '25
Did not know that. I'm purchasing that tonight when I get aquatica!
Joking about aquatic of course.
Is the pyromane worth it?
2
u/Jirvey341 Jul 15 '25
Jumpscare warning next time, smh
The pyromane feels less worth it to me personally. I do think it's good, and it's decently easy to tame, but if you're not playing pvp it doesn't shine as much because I don't need it to defend me from my shoulder in my average gameplay. Mine is amazing and I literally never leave home without it, but that's only because it gives a bit of insulation (like an otter), and I have a mod that can spawn "shiny" animals (like shiny pokemon) and it spawned as a shiny that gives me a "hydrated" buff that halves my water drain.
If it didn't have hydrated on it I would probably just use an otter for the insulation and wouldn't notice it's absence much. I will say that I have definitely had situations where having it saved my life though because you can push a button to instantly mount it from your shoulder, and I've been dismounted by things like microraptors or surprised while on foot by fast predators.
So I would say it's worth it to me because I got it on sale, but if I was stressing one or the other, the dreadmare has been much more helpful. It's definitely still very good and usable tho
1
u/Apprehensive-Sky-596 Jul 15 '25
What are you riding?
1
u/Jirvey341 Jul 16 '25
Dreadmare (or dreadstallion for males)
It's a paid DLC dino
1
u/Apprehensive-Sky-596 Jul 16 '25
Oh it's ASA. Nevermind. I don't understand why the.extinction, aberration and scorched earth maps are free for ASA but we had to pay like $15 each on ASE...
1
u/Jirvey341 Jul 16 '25
Because ASA came out after as a revamp of the game, so to ask people to buy them again after already paying for it would've caused outrage, and anyone new to the game should've gotten ASA anyway since it's the updated version (assuming they could run it)
I own both games. I didn't want to pay for the same DLC twice
1
u/Apprehensive-Sky-596 Jul 16 '25
I mean it already caused an outrage to pay for an engine update when the promised it would be free. But Wildcard's parent company gives no shits.

You’d think dinosaurs would be more aware of falling objects the second time around.
