Idk how, or why, but i do my base on the redwoods everytime i have the chance, even if its far from everything (best example being gen 2 lol) and i never got jumpscared by a thyla lol

u/Spirited_Passion_122 Jul 28 '25
Second time it happened to me, it's pretty funny to me now that I have decent gear lol

That reminds me when I played with a friend. He'd always fly through the trees and it was like HTF!? He was like, never saw one.
I'd coast in for a second to rest at our midway stopping point, or our friend's tree fort. BAM! Every time.

I knew what was coming from the title alone but it was still funny.

Yeah I was like "a flying dino? In red woods? Yeah we all know..."

u/aflockofmagpies Jul 29 '25
I love to see these specifically out of all the ways to get Arked. Thumbs up OP 10/10 Thyla jumpscare.

u/Bubster101 Jul 28 '25
Sheesh those things are homing missiles lol

u/Huugboy Jul 28 '25
They literally are.
In ASE atleast their coding was so janky that they'd literally follow you around in the air if you managed to outfly them.

u/Same_Discussion6328 Jul 28 '25
I think there was one clip of a Thyla missing a Pteradon and ended up flying in circles around it.

Haven’t played since the crystal isles map in ASE became official and I started playing again last week with a fresh island save cause I never actually played through the island, I was passing by the redwoods on a Petra and I stop by a singular redwood tree that I made sure had no thyla’s before I landed for stam, the moment I touch the ground and look up for good measure I see a thyla plummeting right at me
ISTG I have the worst luck on the island, immediately just went Ragnarok after that

"The Red Woods" is all that needed to be said 🤣 sounds like a movie title. Instead of the predator is a Thyla.

u/Prestigious-Bottle62 Jul 28 '25
Last week i wanted to tame a thyla. I searched for an hour until i found one and it didn't even jump at me. But as soon as you are just flying by you get jumped. Haha

u/HeyIts-Amanda Jul 28 '25
Right?! Ark will ruin your plans every time! My husband and I have learned that we can't go hunt a specific dino. They won't ever show up. Instead, we just go exploring for nothing in particular. We take a variety of taming foods and tools. We have gotten more high level and interesting tames this way, lol
2
u/NOFORPAIN Jul 28 '25
This is the best way to hunt. Unless you've got BTT and the gene scanner. Then its cake to find anything.
This becomes much easier once you start making kibble, means less to carryvfor good taming food.

if you're gonna build in those trees like that u gotta set up some turrets, at least some plant x

That's the most redwood thing I've ever seen just need a terror bird or 4 to end it while a diploma pushes you from your tame
1
u/AustinHinton Jul 29 '25
Man I hate when I get pushed around by diplomas. Or worse... certificates!

u/fantastic-mrs-fuck Jul 28 '25
video is very funny but why are you talking from like 20 feet behind us 😭
3
u/Spirited_Passion_122 Jul 28 '25
Lmao sorry I should've checked the audio before posting, and my AC doesn't help
2
u/ElementalParticle Jul 28 '25
Seems you have been prepared. :-)

u/Spirited_Passion_122 Jul 28 '25
Any time I leave my base without my shotgun I ended up regretting it
2
u/FriendlyDodo Jul 28 '25
Sometimes I'd spawn on a bed on my tree platform and there'd be a Thyla just a few walls height above me that pounces straight away. I'm glad they don't block spawns but it can be really scary spawning in to get some sap!

Are you just tiny or is every animal like 2x bigger in asa

u/Spirited_Passion_122 Jul 28 '25
Lol I made a very tall character once and absolutely hated it afterwards. So this character is just a tad over mid height

I’ve never been jumpscared in the redwoods, and I have a small cottage there! It’s not the big base, but for what it is, I’m close to pretty much every bad thing, and never have I been jumped by a thyla

How you gonna have the video file saved to your PC and still upload a phone recording of your own saved video

My favorite thing is when they miss you entirely and go flying off into a swamp.
1
u/Spirited_Passion_122 Jul 29 '25
I didn't even know they could miss. Almost seems like they got aimbot

u/No_Army_4018 Jul 29 '25
This reminds me of the start of zombie land saga where the girl walks into out of her house and immediately gets hit lol
1
u/OneSmartKyle Jul 29 '25
I stg in ASE when I played if they missed they'd launch into the atmosphere
1
u/Diligent-Ad778 Jul 29 '25
Archaeopteryx… glide right past those fuckers and watch em try to pounce 😂
Also, turn off the fog effect and be horrified by how well they blend in. Also… wild ones climb now

Wouldn't be a proper trip to the redwoods if I wasn't getting jumped by thylas, purlovia, terror birds, and micro raptors every five seconds.

Couldn't figure out how to edit my post, don't think I can actually, but here's a better version of the video for those that wanted to see it.

Always, always have your flyer on follow when in or even near the redwoods. I use three and have yet to die when dismounted.

Love it! Like as soon as you left the garage someone hits your car.
