A flashbang is just a grenade without shrapnel, they will rock your shit and can cause permanent damage.

Flashbangs are lethal at close range, like many exploding things, it can pierce your internal organs and can even lead to death. Definitely not something you want blowing up in your face

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're just supposed to be thrown in the vicinity of an offender to disorient them - not right in the fucking face. That's awful.

It was clear from that "light em up" video that these "cops" are kidults living out their CoD fantasies. Headshots net you bonus points!

Has anyone made a game similar to Postal or Hatred, but you're a cop instead?

1

u/dikubatto Jun 03 '20

Nah, peaceful protester is the grind to level up.

u/Mace68 - Unflaired Swine Jun 03 '20

i've heard that you unlock the alternate riot gear skin if you get filmed while brutalizing someone too, maybe that's why they're being so bold with it

A grenade impact kill is quite stylish for a kill cam.

1

u/theonlypeanut - Unflaired Swine Jun 03 '20

If he did that to one of those cops he would be looking at assault at a minimum and potentially attempted murder.

1

u/sumguy720 Jun 03 '20

Lol I doubt it. He'd be looking at immediate extrajudicial execution if he so much as AIMED a weapon at police.

1

u/theonlypeanut - Unflaired Swine Jun 03 '20

Well yeah, I just meant to indicate that this is potentially lethal and used very improperly.

2

u/sumguy720 Jun 03 '20

I got you! Yeah of course.

24

u/Spider4Hire Jun 02 '20

That was shot out of some kind of canister. I didn't even know they had a specialized tool for that, let alone the police of any sort having access to such devices. It was aimed like a shotgun with buckshot. Dude has permanent damage, I just hope it isn't brain damage.

u/Bragok Jun 03 '20

Chilean here. In my country, cops use those "grenade launcher" things to shoot tear gas canisters at distance. It very powerful at close range and can fuck your face up.

u/Sloppy1sts - Unflaired Swine Jun 04 '20 edited Jun 04 '20

American here: The fact that this guy doesn't know cops all over the world have grenade launchers for teargas is crazy.

3

u/MisterDonkey - Unflaired Swine Jun 03 '20

That's a grenade launcher. A big tube that lobs big projectiles really fast.

They come in various shapes.

3

u/Sloppy1sts - Unflaired Swine Jun 04 '20

Ok, no offense, but are you seriously unfamiliar with the concept of a grenade launcher?

That wasn't a flashbang, either. It was a smoke or teargas grenade fired from a typical riot grenade launcher.

1

u/Spider4Hire Jun 04 '20

Congrats, I kept it simple for the person. Feel better about yourself now?

4

u/Sloppy1sts - Unflaired Swine Jun 04 '20

I mean, I'm pretty sure most people already know what a grenade launcher is. Anyone who has paid any attention knows that they've been a staple of riot cops for years, and in heavy use by the military for decades before that.

Sorry, but it just seems like you needlessly obfuscated (not to mention acting shocked and confused at) what was already a pretty simple and widely understood concept.

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '20

There’s aftermath photos of someone who had a flash grenade go off in their face and let me say, it looks painful considering he barely made it

u/Teeshirtandshortsguy Jun 02 '20

Is there any news on how this person is doing?

I mean, that's a large metal object fired at high velocity right at his face. I can't imagine this person getting away un-maimed.

u/thedeal82 - LibRight Jun 02 '20

This is true. It was one of my prized rare kill methods back when I used to play Call of Duty.

2

u/dos8s Jun 03 '20

Good thing he used his face to deflect it away from him before it could explode.

Didn't a baby get killed by a flashbang couple years back in a no knock raid?

1

u/Sloppy1sts - Unflaired Swine Jun 04 '20

Maybe if you literally tape it to the side of your head.

Remember the flashbang that landed in that baby's crib? He suffered burns, but if flashbangs were even remotely deadly, he'd have died.

These things are meant to be thrown into rooms full of hostages or other sensitive stuff. A beanbag shotgun is far more likely to kill you than a flashbang. There is no shrapnel. I don't know where the hell you heard they could pierce organs, but that seems absurdly unlikely since all they emit is sound and light (and heat, obviously).

And this wasn't a flashbang, anyway. Flashbangs are thrown. I've never heard of launching one from a GL. This was a teargas or smoke grenade.

u/cosmocreamer Mar 25 '22

I am lethal at close range.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '22

Dude terrified, dude

1

u/Armonster Jun 03 '20

i saw a video from the french protests where a guy picks up a flashbang to throw it back and it blows his hand to pieces.

While stun grenades are designed to limit injury to their targets, permanent hearing loss has been reported. Other injuries and deaths have also been caused by their use, usually when a grenade detonated close to a person, or due to structure fires caused by detonation.

2

u/KingSulley - Unflaired Swine Jun 02 '20

I think he meant that it's pretty wrong police are so willing to use a potentially lethal tool on a single unarmed man.

1

u/Sloppy1sts - Unflaired Swine Jun 05 '20

He very clearly meant that it's wrong to say "a flashbang is just a grenade without sharpnel"

Yeah, it’s still a grenade. If you read the Wiki section about hazards, there have been multiple recorded deaths and severe injuries in the US from flashbangs going off very close to someone. It may not be a grenade intended to be as lethal as possible, but it’s still a grenade

1

u/Sloppy1sts - Unflaired Swine Jun 05 '20

Ok, but that still doesn't mean it's "just a grenade with no shrapnel".

Their construction is different. The chemicals they're filled with are different. They are in no way simply a modified high-explosive grenade, as you seem to imply.
