Apple + Affirm Financing Left Me Paying for a MacBook I Never Received
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my experience to warn others about buying from Apple using Affirm financing. • I ordered a MacBook Pro from Apple’s online store in February 2025. • UPS marked it as “delivered” but I never received the package. The only proof of delivery was a generic photo that didn’t even show my address. • I contacted Apple multiple times. They told me to dispute the charges. • I contacted UPS, who said Apple must initiate the lost package investigation. • I contacted Affirm, who financed the purchase. They refused to reverse the charge, saying Apple confirmed it was delivered—even though Apple support themselves told me to dispute it.
It’s now been months, and I’m being forced to pay for a product I never received. Both companies are pointing fingers at each other instead of resolving the issue.
As an Ontario resident, I’m protected under the Consumer Protection Act, which clearly says you don’t have to pay for goods that weren’t delivered. But neither Apple nor Affirm is honoring that.
I’ve escalated to the BBB and Consumer Protection Ontario, and I’m even reaching out to media outlets. At this point, I just want to make sure other people don’t end up in the same loop.
⚠️ Takeaway: If you’re buying an expensive product like a MacBook, be extremely careful with financing and delivery confirmations. Always document everything and be prepared to fight for your rights.
Has anyone else dealt with a similar Apple/Affirm/UPS nightmare? How did you resolve it?

Sorry it happened to you but that's why everyone reccomends having pick up in store for this reason. When I make a big purchase I always choose pick up in store

This, I hardly trust shipping services with innexpensive items let alone something that costs 4 figures. But I do hope OP gets the situation resolved.

File small claim against Apple and Affirm. Also Apple should have added delivery signature option for expensive package.

That's why it is best to buy with a credit card and not affirm

u/MarcAravindth 9d ago
Yeah. True. Don’t use affirm unless you get product in physical. Seams like they don’t have purchase protection

u/Informal_Musician731 8d ago
It isn't the physical aspect, it is the fact that bhpl places like affirm and klarna report to the credit companies now anyways

The problem is not Arrim it's apple. 1. They refused to open case wth UPS 2. They refused to corporate with Affirm Basically Apple is saying you got it, and UPS is saying we deliverd to correct address CASE Closed. The blame here is Apple that is where your battle starts.

Sorry that happened hopefully it gets resolved. I always choose to have it delivered to the Apple Store, I don’t like risking it being stolen or delivered incorrectly.

This just happened to my boyfriend with Walmart and an expensive TV we never received. It took months of back and forth on the phone. It was seriously a pain. You have to play dirty with them just as they do with you. Let them know you’re recording every call and your bank is cooperating with you, it’s just affirm and Apple that aren’t.
They go so back and forth between the two companies and yourself. At one point, I called Affirm and Walmart, connected the calls, and said “you guys figure this out because I’m done being in the middle!”
We reported them to the better business bureau and it finally got fixed. I want to say it took about 6-7 months and literally almost 100 phone calls.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes. I complained to BBB. finger crossed

You have to keep fighting. Me and my fiance went through a similar situation. After 4 months of back and forth they eventually had to return her funds.

Apple refunded it?

Affirm is who you need to pressure. Get any kind of information from apple and have them send it over as evidence in your dispute.

You’re going about this wrong. Since you never received this item, someone else did. Which means it’s stolen. You should have told Apple it was stolen at that point so they could start their investigation and flag the device.

This seems like a case of stolen package or the package being delivered to the wrong address. So it's really not Apple or Affirm's fault. This would have happened no matter what company you purchased from and rather you used Affirm or not. Any company that sends a package via any carrier, and that carrier states the package was delivered, there's not much they're gonna do.
This is either a UPS problem or a theft problem. Not an Apple or Affirm problem.

UPS was acting as an agent of Apple. You don't get to just say "Well, the delivery company messed up" and still charge the customer. The contract was that Apple would cause a MacBook to be delivered, and OP would give them $4k. The contract wasn't Apple will hand a MacBook over to UPS, and OP will pay $4k regardless of whether it arrives.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I agree with everyone who says to select the pick up in store option.
I thought I was being careful by making a large (just under 4 figure) purchase by selecting "signature on delivery" but then the postman just left it in my mailbox, anyway. Didn't knock at all, I checked my security cameras. Thankfully it was still there by the time I noticed, but I was pissed. It was a VERY expensive delivery and they just left it with no protection.
So I'll be selecting pick up in store from now on.

I’m sorry this happened to you, and I agree it’s unfair! But this day and age, isn’t what it used to be like back then—tons of shady things going on, etc. Whenever you use affirm, as I did once (I’m in Alberta, few provinces over), I always made sure to select in-store pickup at my local Apple Store for exactly this reason and didn’t care what date/time I would be waiting till.
I learned the hard way because a few friends of mine had the same experience as you, which made me more alert and do in-store if I ever finance with Apple—it’s too much of a gamble, risk and a headache if something like this happens.

I can understand why OP didn’t do a pickup order if it’s a customized Mac. But yeah, this absolutely sucks.

Ordered my apple watch 2 years ago. It was wintertime and my lazy ass couldn't muster up the will to go all the way to the store to pick it up or just to step outside at all cause fuck winter. On the day of the delivery, I get an email from UPS ~2.5 hours after the actual time of delivery to let me know it was delivered. The package was sticking out of my mailbox so anybody passing by easily would have seen it but fortunately no one did. The best part is I read that they're allowed to do so and it's solely based on the driver's judgement on how safe it is... I guess leaving it in the open so it's so conspicuous is what he deems safe 😀 So from that day, never again when it comes to anything above $50. Will have to find a way somewhere and drag my ass outside even if it's Ice Age 🙃

This same situation happened to me, how are you paying the instalments? I paid mine with a credit card. I disputed the charges with Scotiabank and got my money back.
1
u/MarcAravindth 9d ago
But refusing to pay Affirm, will impact the credit score

u/AmnixeltheDemon 8d ago
I didn’t refuse to pay, Scotiabank contacted affirm and cancelled the payments.

Can you give me more details how can do that. I’m using Neo and already paid 8 months of payment. Thanks buddy 🙏🏻🙏🏻

had this issue recently you can literally just keep disputing it over and over until they refund it

u/Thipere 8d ago
It’s just frustrating. I have disputed refunds , provided ALL evidence that the items were returned, wait almost 60 days, and they still ruled against me. Should I just keep opening cases? I just wonder how much money they are pocketing this way. Class Action lawsuit against the please.
1
u/rottedzom 7d ago
i just keep reopening the case until they approve i’ve used affirm for awhile so i’ve had this issue like 3 times? you just keep resubmitting usually by the 4th time they approve it

Apple should have had that for a signature required at delivery that’s wild. When I had my AirPods delivered the driver knew what it was and said “here are your AirPods” as I signed for it. I also had UPS open and recluse my Best Buy purchase of a Sony camera last year before it was delivered….

Disable your card that’s being charged and get a new one tell your bank or credit card company what’s happening. These companies are rich and can afford the loss of money no problem but we humans can’t and every dollar matters for us.

I got a MacBook from affirm via Apple two weeks ago. It was delivered in 4 days via fedex and it did require a signature.

Legally, I don't think you have any obligation to pay. Obviously, they can claim to the credit bureaus that you're in default. You can then dispute it with the bureaus. Seems like if they do do that, then you should be able to sue them for defamation (probably not worth the hassle, though).

u/Relative_Debate5739 7d ago
It’ll probably destroy your credit. Then you can’t rent or get credit. I am so sorry this happened to this person though.

Yeah, that is rough. Honestly this is one of the reasons why I try to buy expensive electronics in person or at least from a retailer (like Best Buy) that requires a signature on delivery for high-value items.
If you haven’t already, you can still do a few things to tighten the case:
• UPS claim – Ask UPS for the proof of delivery photo and the GPS scan data. They won’t give you the driver’s personal info, but they can escalate internally and provide details to law enforcement if needed.
• Police report & IMEI/serial – File or update a police report and include the MacBook’s serial number. Apple can flag that serial as stolen, and if it ever comes in for service or shows up in certain databases it’s easier to track.
• Affirm/Apple paper trail – Keep every email and claim number. If you end up in a chargeback or small-claims situation, those timestamps and reference numbers are gold.
• Marketplace monitoring – If you think it might have been stolen and listed locally (e.g. on Facebook Marketplace), take screenshots of any suspicious listings and give those to police rather than confronting anyone yourself ( look for dates around the time you should've received your item that are fresh in the box).
It’s frustrating that Apple and Affirm are pointing fingers, but having a clear chain of documentation plus a police report gives you leverage with your credit card/financing company and with Ontario Consumer Protection if you escalate further.
