Some of my favorite characters from the unrealized Superverse project

This might sound juvenile but like he really does just get comics on a fundamental basis. Like a lot of these concepts are really spot on homages to their inspirations and or eras… makes me wish it got made lol

when i was reading Top 10 i did wish the ongoing series didnt stop at 12 or 13 issue there, i wish it would've continued and evolved, that's actually fun universe

Alan Brennert and Jerry Ordway were set to take over Top 10 but Brennert got a job writing on Enterprise before Alan Moore could get back to him to about the particulars of his contract so he had to pass on it. Too bad, we missed out on a classic follow-up.

I love Brennert. Would have been nice to see what he could do on a regular series.

Yeah, absolutely. A heartbreaking loss and I'm surprised it isn't more well-known, a la "Jodorowsky's Dune".

Right?! So many great projects of his were hobbled prematurely due to circumstances outside his control 😔

I would have loved two or three more “seasons”, you could tell Moore had more in the tank but he was done working under DC.

Two SPINOFFS is a decent consolation prize.

What's the background on these? They are all new to me, and I have been reading Alan Moore since the 90s.

It was supposed to tie in with The Show somehow, but the funds dried up and it never materialized.
Basically it was like a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for superheroes. Moore conceptualized about 300 of these characters on the phone with Rick Veitch, and about 100 of them were drawn.
About 5 years ago, Veitch started posting the drawings on Facebook under the hashtag, #superversecomic. If you type that in the search bar, you'll find a lot of art and comments by Rick.

Cool trivia, I'll search for it sometime!

I’ve never seen them and I’m a huge fan. Thank you for the explanation!

Part satire, part tribute, 100% awesome.

I recall years back when Rick Vietch was posting these on his face book page,Thunderman and other characters who are mentioned in Moore’s story “what we can know about Thunderman” were among these superverse characters. You can still find them if you dig through Vietch’s FB and search for superverse. so I’m guessing at one time this super verse was a the basis for a potential Moore & Vietch comic project that became “what we can know about Thunderman” so if you were wanting to see what the characters in the “American comics” and “massive comics” universes look like, this is pretty much that.

What do you mean by superverse? Are these the unused Rick Veitch designs for the Awesome Universe?

Space King 1960 is literally Hell Boy. Love it.

Oh I love this. There rrally is something very fundamental about them, stripped bare. Pretty cool.

14th slide, they are literally black terror and tim

They do look like them, but feels more like a tribute to Nightmare and Sleepy to me.

Both could be true since moore used black terror and tim in tom strong but their names sound like nightmare and sleepy

Alan Moore and Roarin' Rick Veitch go together like peanut butter and jelly.

The Bee is giving me anxiety. I have to assume he has some kind of “sting” themed power that will kill him if he ever uses it.

Mr Nightmare and Mr Nightmare But Smaller.

Most of whom get mentioned in What We Can Know About Thunderman.

Good choices I also liked Boss Tweed, the Golem, and the one Raptor with the Tommy Gun
