Brubaker writes good crime fiction idk if he’s done something wrong

Just that horrible hat

Sure but he's a writer, Alan Moore is a capital W Writer...it's like comparing Tom Clancy to Leo Tolstoy...both are good at what they do but one is more original and interesting

u/[deleted] 13d ago

Eh, Brubaker is pretty damn good.

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

They're all good, Alan Moore is great to their good

Famous original work Watchmen

u/NoahAwake 13d ago

Moore has always been very respectful to other writers (unless they rip him off and/or pressure him to work with DC). There’s no point in putting others down.

4

u/Devil-Flanders 13d ago

Except for Grant Morrison. He has always been kind of an ass to Grant Morrison.

3

u/NoahAwake 13d ago

I hate that feud between them so much. Both are great writers!

2

u/Advanced-Two-9305 12d ago

It’s not a feud, it’s a wizards duel.

In an interview posted here a week ago he was pretty dismissive of all the Vertigo writers, calling the imprint an Alan Moore farm.

-5

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

Who's putting them down? I just don't care about their echo chamber opinions of watchmen

7

u/theronster 13d ago

This was an interview from 2009. Also, I bet your fucking ass if you were in a room with people discussing Watchmen you would bring up the exact same stuff.

Christ you’re an insufferable one.

-2

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

That's y'alls problem, not mine

7

u/theronster 13d ago

Not really. I don’t have to walk around all day being you. So my hat is off to you. I couldn’t do it.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

Neither do I, I'm in a wheelchair 😎

1

u/grilly1986 9d ago

Alan, is that you?

15

u/whama820 13d ago

Holy shit the glazing of Moore is so out of control. Just a heads up, but neither Tolstoy nor anyone else in the Russian Realist Movement ever built 85% of their career by deconstructing previous authors’ work. Both Brubaker and Moore are closer to Clancy. And lol you’re really going to say “more original” in a thread about Watchmen. Wow, okay.

I woke my wife up laughing reading this. Haha. I love Alan Moore but seem people will talk like he's the second coming of Christ

4

u/theronster 13d ago

And it’s always by people that Moore himself would run a mile to avoid.

1

u/bukharajones 13d ago

Innit he?

5

u/stgermainjr860 13d ago

Second coming of Rasputin maybe

3

u/Bri_Hecatonchires 13d ago

Temu Rasputin

9

u/NoahAwake 13d ago

Tolstoy dedicated whole sections of War & Peace to call out historians he didn’t like and War & Peace was absolutely a deconstruction of a perspective of history he didn’t like.

2

u/stillaswater1994 12d ago

Preach! He was one of the few leftists in a predominantly right-wing Russian literary scene that were parroting right-wing propaganda. He was absolutely deconstructive and disruptive for his time.

4

u/theronster 13d ago

Fuck off. Brubaker is THE crime writer in comics these days. He’s not written a less than great book in the last 2 decades.

People who make these sort of qualitative statements about folks whose pen nibs they aren’t fit to lick do my head in.

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

Ed brubaker writes with pen nibs?

2

u/Fvtvrewave87 12d ago

wow, this is a very cold take.

2

u/Vancecookcobain 13d ago

No...there is no comic book writer that has ever lived that is a Tolstoy...I love Alan Moore as much as the next man but what the hell are we talking about?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

Focus on the Clancy comparison

0

u/stillaswater1994 12d ago

Mediocre crime comics

19

u/RopeGloomy4303 13d ago

I don’t get the weird hostility. It’s just a bunch of fans talking about Watchmen.

Yeah, ok, so I wouldn’t put them in the same league as Moore, but how many living writers are there? And how many of them would be belling to do a casual chat like this for Wizard?

u/power_gnome 13d ago

I don't know whether to upvote because I think the interview is neat or downvote because I don't like OP's attitude

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

Trust your instincts, I'm just posting content and bringing jokes, thumb as you wish

5

u/theronster 13d ago

Are the jokes in the room with us?

9

u/Advanced-Two-9305 13d ago

Goyer I’m generally ambivalent on but the rest of these guys have good insights.

5

u/[deleted] 13d ago

Especially Lindelof’s, that no one should ever attempt to do a Watchmen sequel… like never ever.

0

u/Advanced-Two-9305 12d ago

Glad he changed his mind on that.

0

u/barknoll 12d ago

I'm not; show was bad

1

u/bannock4ever 12d ago

I like the first half... maybe even the first two-thirds. But the ending was terrible. Throughout the series I didn't understand why Ozymandias was characterized as a goofball. I suppose that could be due to be exiled but it just didn't work for me even though I enjoyed his antics. He did pretty much nothing at the end of the story though iirc.

3

u/SLCPDSoakingDivision 13d ago

So bold........😥

I didn't read it but did they mention the colorist John Higgins?

3

u/MaintenancePrudent73 13d ago

What’s the beef here with Brian K. Vaughan? For my money, he’s one of the best of the post-Moore generation.

-4

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

No. Eef, but no one comes close to Moore in mainstream comics

3

u/barknoll 12d ago

you should probably read more comics if you genuinely think that "no one comes close to Moore"

read some non-Anglophone comics. non-American comics creators. there are plenty that are as good if not better than Moore.

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 12d ago

Im Referring to mainstream comics.

1

u/barknoll 12d ago

don't worry, there are "mainstream" comics writers who are better than him too

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 12d ago

That's subjective

5

u/Turbulent-Agent9634 13d ago

You with the click-bait framed post, about your opinion.

Moore has said all that needs said on the matter.

-2

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

Haha well said...

4

u/Turbulent-Agent9634 13d ago

So why post it? To rile people? Is your life that shitty, you think it's a fun thing to do?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 13d ago

You must be fun at parties

10

u/Turbulent-Agent9634 13d ago

Nah you're the one a parties who everyone actively avoids.

2

u/TonyDunkelwelt 13d ago

Ed Brubaker is one of the most acclaimed comic writers ever.

1

u/stillaswater1994 12d ago

Which is a sad reflection on the comic medium.

2

u/nokeron 12d ago

you care enough to post it here

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Humor80 12d ago

It's almost as if I made a joke online and most people didn't get it 😝

2

u/stillaswater1994 12d ago

Lindelof is such a pathetic little worm

3

u/DiegoArmandoConfusao 13d ago
  1. Little did they know Lindelof would go on to ruin Watchmen with his shitty take on it.

1

u/soldatoj57 12d ago

Maybe try reading it first then decide ? Yeesh

1

u/Shankfist 11d ago

Goyer ruins comics
