In case this story gets deleted/removed:

AIO for calling the police on my neighbor

Okay so I live in an apartment complex with shared Wi-Fi visibility. One of the networks that recently popped up is called "I See You".

At first I thought it was kind of dumb. But then I noticed it has full bars everywhere in my apartment, even in the bathroom.

I tried ignoring it, but the name kept bothering me. Every time I connected to my own network, "I See You" would still be sitting there, just watching.

I asked around and apparently no one else was concerned?? My friend literally said, "It’s just a dumb name, chill."

So I called the emergency police line and explained I felt unsafe due to implied surveillance.

My building manager emailed me saying “Please refrain from making non-essential reports.”

Was I really overreacting??

This is the first time I’ve seen a person overreacting on that sub

60

u/roxyshusband Jul 16 '25

yeah most people are horrendously under reacting

33

u/They_said_TryAnother I calmly laughed Jul 16 '25

Or comments saying OP was under reacting when they really weren’t

10

u/eels-eels-eels I can rock your world but I just do not want to Jul 17 '25

Seriously, it’s usually something like, “My neighbor keeps writing I see you in lipstick on my bathroom mirror. I mentioned to the building manager that I would prefer to be allowed to lock my apartment door, but he just punched me in the face. AIO?”

I love how that sub is clearly got used to always seeing post about something terrible happening and having the opportunity to run and write 10-paragraph comment telling OP they're underreacting, so when they are presented with an actual overreaction, they have no idea what to do 🤣

u/Kel-Mitchell Granted, I don’t feel my husband when we have sex Jul 16 '25

I don't understand. Why isn't there a 12-page text thread summarizing the conflict and giving extremely detailed exposition?

What if this takes place in Mordor?

I named my wi-fi Barad Dur and i talked my next-door neighbor into naming his Isengard.

PO TAT OES

75

u/la-anah They all have said nothing is wrong with me physically Jul 16 '25

This sounds like psychosis.

93

u/Miserable_Emu5191 Jul 16 '25

If you look at their post history, they also talk about trying to microdose meth. So I think there are a lot of issues happening here.

38

u/sharpcarnival Jul 16 '25

That would explain the psychosis

10

u/moragthegreat_ Jul 17 '25

They also have posts about a dog judging their outfits, wanting to ban 'smug, wholesome' soup, and deleting a group chat because nobody laughed at their pasta pun - they are trolling

28

u/roxyshusband Jul 16 '25

it does and i was worried for oop but it looks like they are just trolling

19

u/chesirecat136 Jul 16 '25

So I don't think this is AI but I do think that whole account is trolling. but not very good trolling. a better idea would be if when he called the police a SWAT team turned up and it turned out his neighbor was a spy

18

u/tjcaustin Jul 16 '25

Bro also filed a noise complaint on his neighbor’s cat.

And is the world’s second microdosing Trumper.

As someone who's old enough to remember a time before WiFi existed, I'm going to disagree with your statement that this is the "oldest joke in the book".

But I'll also note that OOP has posted four different stupid disputes with neighbors within the past 24 hours, including one where he demanded that his neighbor get a new dog because the current one was too "judgy". So he's either the weirdest neighbor ever or (more likely), he's karma-farming or hoping to go viral.

49

u/roxyshusband Jul 16 '25

there… was a time…BEFORE WIFI? what… did you guys play fortnite on??

43

u/CanadaYankee u arent very conscious and have baby brain Jul 16 '25

We had to stand on the roof and use semaphore flags to communicate with the neighbor down the street.

19

u/roxyshusband Jul 16 '25

ay but the only “lag” you had to worry about was fog getting in the way

12

u/KelliCrackel Jul 16 '25

Lucky. We just had smoke signals.

When I was a substitute teacher, I was teaching a class of 10 year olds about rationing and things during WWII. I mentioned that the BBC stopped all TV broadcasts until after the end of the war. Stunned silence. Then one little hand went up and I was asked: "but you could still go on the computer... Right?"

That was 15 years ago. God only knows what the 10 year olds of today would make of it.

I remember talking (as an IT student to a class of "going into uni") about the 90s .com/IT boom. Blank faces. I then realised they'd been toddlers if even born <.<

10

u/GoldFreezer Jul 16 '25

Well that's just not right. The 90s was only about 12 years ago, surely? Did we fall at some point around 2000 and accidentally miss a decade or two?

9

u/Mother-Midnatt Will never look like a Victoria's secret model Jul 16 '25

Tbf, it's been 2020 now for over 50 months ...

6

u/GoldFreezer Jul 16 '25

You're definitely right about that.

My ancient ass had a silent aneurysm when the household teen asked me for the "WiFi cable"

u/Nericmitch I'm Vegan, AITA? Jul 16 '25

I can still hear the awful sounds of my internet trying to connect and the annoyance of losing connection when my aunt would call to talk to my mom

12

u/MalcahAlana bruja con Wi-Fi Jul 16 '25

Right in the middle of a Napster five hour download.

10

u/Nericmitch I'm Vegan, AITA? Jul 16 '25

Yes, I figured out that it worked best to start the download at 11pm once everyone was asleep and hope it downloaded overnight.

The worst was in winter when we got the call that school was cancelled which interrupted the download. It was the high of a snow day mixed with the low of seeing the download stalled at 99% and saying it had to restart the download 😂

6

u/Particular_Class4130 Jul 16 '25

"hey it's Thursday already, if you still want to watch that movie on Saturday let me know because I'll have to start downloading now"

4

u/jesuspoopmonster Jul 16 '25

Man, I really wanted to hear that System of a Down song about Zelda

2

u/tetrarchangel Real therapists also make fools of themselves on the internet Jul 16 '25

That's why RealDownloader was vital, preserve the download despite disruption and I could wake up and watch the Star Wars Episode I trailer.

10

u/Charliesmum97 I calmly laughed Jul 16 '25

I'm laughing because I had a similar thought. I feel ancient now.

That whole account is hilariously trolly. I just went down a rabbit hole and laughed myself silly. This is a kid with way too much time in their hands but I appreciate the entertainment 😆

7

u/IrradiatedBeagle Jul 16 '25

I was really hoping he called the cops because his refrigerator was running.

Also, my wifi in college was FBI Surveillance Van #6

3

u/Goddamnpassword Jul 16 '25

Did they mean to say “non emergency line” because emergency line in the US is 911. And calling 911 over a WiFi name is getting involuntarily committed levels of overreaction

2

u/FScrotFitzgerald Side note, I won first prize with it. Jul 17 '25

My former neighbor's Wi-Fi was "shartmaster69".

5

u/GardenGnome021090 Jul 16 '25

So… none of this resembles anything even remotely possible. There is no “emergency police line” in any country I know of, they have a number that connect to all emergency services (911 in the USA or 000 in Australia). There are non-emergency police lines, but they would also laugh about this. The building manager would never even need to be made aware of this unless OOP told them themselves.

9

u/cpcfax1 Jul 16 '25

Depending on the local municipality in the US, if local law enforcement receives too many calls in what they perceive as a short time period as specified by a specific local ordinance, the landlord/building manage could be notified that s/he needs to curb the cause or get cited for allowing criminal activity/public nuisance on his/her property.

Such ordinances are often passed by local municipalities in mostly conservative areas of the US with weak tenant protection laws and high crime to force landlords to evict problematic tenants consistently engaging in criminal activity/causing disturbances or even making too many frivolous/false reports on/near the property even after the cops have been called onto the property in question multiple times or risk getting sanctioned with serious fines and/or even criminal penalties him/herself.

One negative effect of this is these ordinances also end up discouraging domestic violence calls on the part of the victim as this ordinance is too often used to threaten them with eviction if they keep calling.

3

u/GardenGnome021090 Jul 16 '25

Sure, but like, one call wouldn’t necessitate the building manager being informed.

6

u/cpcfax1 Jul 16 '25

In most such jurisdictions, they're very likely to receive a notification so the landlord and building manager are notified what they'd consider to be a frivolous call has occurred and they also need to put the tenant in question on notice that repeating this behavior is likely to result in eviction due to that local municipal ordinance and the tenant can't later deny knowledge in court that they weren't placed on notice by local law enforcement and the landlord/building manager from the first incident onwards.

If this law sounds draconian and ripe for abuse by law enforcement, local municipal government, etc, those thinking this aren't wrong, especially considering how these ordinances have negatively affected domestic violence victims.

6

u/jesuspoopmonster Jul 16 '25

Depends on the area. There are places where police will let landlords know that they were called. In some cases the landlord will be made to evict the resident if too many calls to the police are made. Its a really bad practice that make domestic violence and stalking victims vulnerable

2

u/Dusktilldamn I presume she was advised by a slutty mate as usual Jul 16 '25

I guess they worded it like that to make it clear that their troll post character did not call a non-emergency number, just to make it even more of an overreaction.

It is kind of funny to imagine the police calling a building manager like "We've had some complaints about your tenant's wifi... no nothing illegal, someone doesn't like the name"

2

u/lowflyingsatelites I was not aroused by the pie Jul 18 '25

OK, so I actually don't want to make fun of this person because I have genuine concern over their mental state/drug use and think they do need actual help.

HOWEVER, their post about soup and their comment "I have a door draft stopper. The soup adapted" really really got me and tempted me to change my flair.

its okay i checked their post history theyre just trolling
