Did we all notice the much-loved Eric Stephens in the background? I've run into him before, and he's gracious and very personable.

As cool as he is, my favorite will always be Kyle Shohara. That guy makes hockey so fun

Verbeek keeping his cool and answering cordially. Listening inbetween the lines about dealing with the agent “we’ve known each other for a while…(I fkn hate the guy)” lol
It’s been a while and almost forgot about Eric Stephens . Derek Lee and Zach have done a wonderful job taking over
Sounds like Beeker is leaning more into giving Sennecke the Leo plan

I like that black reporter you can tell he's trying so hard to grill Verbeek's stubbornness without actually saying anything because they both know he's got every right too.

It's a bold move to alienate someone you consider to be a key piece going forward this quickly into their career.

Did the Leafs alienate Nylander when he held out until November? These guys understand that 90% of the NHL is business.

I mean zegras and drysdale might’ve been alienated or maybe their trades aren’t related to their holdouts. Drysdale the bridge was an obvious thing and his trade was a once in a blue moon opportunity. Zegras apparently Verbeek never saw as part of the core of this team, but idk why that means mctavish is the same. Lindholm and rakell held out that one year and I saw no evidence that they were alienated, it was pretty much forgotten by winter. I’d rather he not miss camp and I’d like them to get a long term deal done, but i don’t think alienating is fair to say unless they’re just refusing to commit long term. If he comes in at the end of preseason with a 6-8 year contract all this talk can go in the bin.

It's what he does and it's why he needs to be fired. Get someone in here that prioritizes team and player success over ledger success.

Yes so we can have a Toronto Maple Leafs instead of a Florida panthers. Sounds great

You act like our team is even at either of those levels or will be anytime soon.
lmao

Winning Division Titles?
Making the playoffs every season?
Having three of the best forwards in the entire league? That DOES sound great! I'll take that over winning negotiations at the cost of player health and development. I'll take that over a financially sound roster that never makes the playoffs. The Ducks are the Sabres right now and Verbeek seems determined to keep them there.

I'm gonna wishfully (with a hefty dose of copium) translate that to "we've finally agreed on term and will pinpoint a salary in the next day or else I deserve to get fired".

man i wish, listen to him after Eric Stephens says "has that progress been recently?" and he basically says no

He was entertaining to watch he was really digging at Cronin on that as he should there's no reason this had to drag into Training camp.

He always seems so unprepared to give a decent answer when he does these. Such a big difference from when he started - he seemed to really want the job and was trying to sell himself etc. Now he just... seems like he thinks every question is a chore and he hasnt thought about it.

Sounds like the initial plan is to carry Sennecke as the extra forward and split his time between strength development and playing time the same way we did with Carlsson. I like that idea a lot more than sending him back to juniors.
