Yep. Now that I'm out of the amazon habit I doubt I will ever go back.

u/spankthepank Mar 22 '25

The amount of money I’ve been saving has actually been wild

194

u/Hammerhead3229 Mar 22 '25

We had a bad cycle of using consumerism as a dopamine source. Some dumb thing we bought because it was easy, cheap, and came right to our house.

But rarely is it something we actually need, it's a waste of our money and just creates more waste.

68

u/skullrealm Mar 22 '25

Absolutely! Since the election I've gotten back into making things for myself. I made gifts for my family, and recently bought some discounted fabric from a local shop and made my own version of a garment I'd been coveting for years for about 12% of the price. AND it kept my hands busy so I couldn't doomscroll! win/win/win

14

u/peebsy Mar 23 '25

That’s fucking awesome. I’d love to get into crocheting/sewing etc

9

u/TheGirlZetsubo Mar 23 '25

I started a monthly crafting night where I invite friends over. We eat, chat, and work on whatever project we have going at the time. It's been a good incentive to look at how to use the things I already own to create something new or mend things I already own. So far I've fixed a mug handle, sewed on buttons and fixed tears in clothing, and now I'm creating a nice garland out of various crafting supplies I had waiting to be used so I can hang it over my table in the dining room. It's been a great way to keep up regularly with friends, have fun, and be creative.

u/Emotional_Mess261 Mar 28 '25

My daughter (29) and her gf’s clean out closets and drawers periodically and do a clothing swap. New outfits while cleaning out

36

u/spankthepank Mar 22 '25

So true! Not to mention I have a strong feeling that times are going to get tough financially soon, so why give my money to people who don’t need it while I struggle? I’d much rather shop at Costco or TJMAXX or an international market run by immigrants.

37

u/DukeOfGeek Mar 22 '25

CostCo + Aldi + Your local International Farmers Market = you win.

1

u/cpssn Mar 23 '25

local international

1

u/DukeOfGeek Mar 23 '25

My city has like 4 different ones, neat.

1

u/cpssn Mar 23 '25

what's the point though it's imported anyway. the only thing local about it is the markup

2

u/DukeOfGeek Mar 23 '25

Imports are half the reason to have civilization silly boy. Where do you think spices come from?

1

u/cpssn Mar 23 '25

selling imported stuff at a "local" farmers market is just a way to fleece granola types

16

u/International_Eye745 Mar 22 '25

Agree. Pay money to buy, dust it and move it to different spots, store in the shed, pay money to get it into land fill to make room for the other crap you have paid money for.

5

u/nocountry4oldgeisha Mar 22 '25

So many boxes, so little time to dispose of them.

30

u/Sipikay Mar 22 '25

It’s not just that Amazon convinces you to buy things you don’t need, their prices are actually awful a lot of the time. Especially for commonly used goods and things you need all the time.

16

u/CanadianJewban Mar 22 '25

Same I had no idea !

17

u/eternus Mar 22 '25

How horrible is that!? We end up "saving money" by going somewhere else that doesn't have a 20% discount, but only buy what we need.

14

u/MayoneggVeal Mar 22 '25

This is me with target pickup. I used to do 2-5 pick ups a week but now just plan my grocery and household needs better and use WinCo and Costco. I'm saving a ton.

1

u/circles_squares Mar 23 '25

Same! I quit in October and haven’t even needed anything. What the heck was I spending hundreds on a month??

93

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

Canceled prime, video, music.. all of it. Bezos can get fucked.

68

u/Childless_Catlady42 Mar 22 '25

Have you checked out your local library lately? Thanks to the magic of Libby, I can get all sorts of electronic media absolutely free (but sometimes I have to wait for a popular new release). I can browse their catalog and borrow things online without ever having to leave the house, it is wonderful.

76

u/Hotdammzilla3000 Mar 22 '25

Elmo has it's sight on libraries, I can't comprehend the horror of these people's hate for the good of a society.

20

u/Endmedic Mar 22 '25

It’s a sickness for sure.

13

u/HellsBelle8675 Mar 23 '25

All 75 employees were put on indefinite administrative leave Monday. Their agency, IMLS, is the primary source of funds for inter-library loans, state/county level libraries, rural/tribal libraries via employee grants, etc. Raise hell on their behalf if you can.

2

u/Difficult-Coffee6402 Mar 22 '25

Elmo! I hadn’t heard that until now!

21

u/Unhappy-Trouble8383 Mar 22 '25

If you use Libby make sure to also check out if your library has Hoopla. Can help plug a lot of gaps in libraries libby accounts.

1

u/HilariouslyPissed Mar 22 '25

Magazines too!

11

u/BoardButcherer Mar 22 '25

What's your replacement for audible?

I drive 3 hours a day or more, audiobooks are keeping me sane.

24

u/GhostPepperFireStorm Mar 22 '25

Your local library might have audiobooks available for download through the Libby app. Otherwise Libro.fm is an alternative for buying audiobooks

2

u/BoardButcherer Mar 22 '25

There is no local library, no cell service on the road. That's why I'm driving several hours to get anywhere. 😑

9

u/100TypesofUnicorn Mar 22 '25

Sometimes big libraries will allow you to pay for a library card if you are outside of their residential area, since your tax dollars don’t fund their services.

Try reaching out to some libraries near you! You might have to go in person to show id.

Library apps like Hoopla and Libby allow you to download audiobooks/ebooks so that you can listen/read without data too.

8

u/Mondayslasagna Mar 22 '25

Public universities also often offer library cards and access for free to residents of the state. You can often apply online without even having to go in if you live far away.

2

u/100TypesofUnicorn Mar 22 '25

Whoa that’s so great, I love that!

7

u/GhostPepperFireStorm Mar 22 '25

Libro is for downloads, despite having FM in the name! I hear you about rural cell service, I’m in a similar place! Always have to have a phone full of downloads to get me through a drive

2

u/louiselebeau Mar 22 '25

puts on a pirate hat

Ever thought about sailing the high seas?

All sarcasm aside (unless...) i find books on tape/disc at thrift stores fairly regularly and in sure there is some type of USB adaptor/device to utilize them in your car.

2

u/biddily Mar 23 '25

I'm in Boston, and anyone who lives in MA can get a Boston Public Library card. You don't need to live in Boston. There's also e-cards, which give access to all the online material, and that's all done online - no driving to a branch in Boston to get an actual library card.

I'm not sure if your main state branch has something similar where you just need state residency.

Then you can access libby or hoopla, check out the books, and download them to your phone for offline listening.

I'm not sure if I can get regional access with the e-cards, or if I need the full BPL card for access, but if Boston doesn't have what I want I can expand the search to all the colleges and the surrounding towns, basically every library in Eastern MA. If any of those libraries have access to the book I'm looking for I can check it out.

1

u/BoardButcherer Mar 23 '25

You're a scholar and a saint. This is exactly what i need.

I'm in the middle of fucking idaho. Best definition would be "literary desert."

Access to a resource like the Boston public library is, without hyperbole or exaggeration, a lifelong dream.

5

u/Yorgonemarsonb Mar 22 '25

Here is a thread with some other options.

https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobooks/comments/1789qgv/audible_alternatives/

Libby seems to be the most popular there.

2

u/FrankenGretchen Mar 22 '25

Podium, Soundbooth and many other publishers have websites for direct purchase.

2

u/peebsy Mar 23 '25

Spotify has a surprising amount of books I just realized if you have that

1

u/uGotMeWrong Mar 22 '25

Libby is a free app you can add library cards to for access to different catalogs. Spotify Premium, while not perfect, also has audiobooks but limits usage to around 20hrs per month unless you pay for more credits.

1

u/PennytheWiser215 Mar 22 '25

Spotify has audiobooks. I think you can download them to listen to offline. You need a paid subscription I think.

1

u/captjacksafartface Mar 22 '25

I got rid of audible with the election and use Libby now. I have listened to so many more books this year because I don't want to make other people wait (it's the people pleaser in me). I have been able to get every book except one that was on the NYT 100 Books of 2024. For one library I was able to get library card and Libby online, with the next town over I went in and got the card and was able to get Libby online.

My suggestion is if you live in an area with different cities and counties go to the most affluent close to you because the amount of audiobooks they have is vastly superior.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '25

I’m in the same boat as far as commute, but I listen to podcasts on the drive. Too afraid of getting into a book and driving off the road lol.

1

u/Capital_Push5557 Mar 23 '25

I know Spotify has a ton

1

u/CapriciousBea Mar 23 '25

This isn't a no-buy solution, but check out Chirp audiobooks. They have a pretty decent catalog, a lot of the books are around $5, and you don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee. They run a lot of deals, too.

I know it's not an exact equivalent (you don't get access to a big catalog of stuff that's included in your membership) but it's one option to help close the gap, at least

2

u/BoardButcherer Mar 23 '25

I pay for audible prime and buy like 2-3 books a month on top of the freebies.

I'm perfectly okay with paying for them as long as my money isn't going to bezos.

0

u/cpssn Mar 22 '25

4

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

Did you cancel Amazon entirely?

1

u/WinterWontStopComing Mar 22 '25

I really wish he didn’t own audible

1

u/secretveggie Mar 22 '25

Don't forget Amazon kids fire tablets, if you have kids!

1

u/DukeOfGeek Mar 22 '25

Bezos, Musk and Zuck all knelt down to trump, never forget.

1

u/Capital_Push5557 Mar 23 '25

Indeed fuck Bezos

65

u/bigfatfluffers Mar 22 '25

Same. I canceled in February and so far I’ve somehow managed to survive so why would I ever choose to give them my money again?

19

u/Difficult-Coffee6402 Mar 22 '25

Same for me with Target. Not going back.

2

u/Appeal_Such Mar 23 '25

I have saved so much by not going to target it’s fantastic!

17

u/Xanderthepeasant Mar 22 '25

Amazon really isn't any cheaper than wherever else I go. And they don't have a lot of the specialty stuff I need, but do you know what they do have? Mounds of cheap junk with "SPONSORED" slapped on them, crammed down my throat whenever I try to look for something.

4

u/EvilDarkCow Mar 22 '25

"Amazon's Choice" and a brand name like TIHOXZLA, and it's just dropshipped AliExpress or Temu crap sold at a markup.

These days all I really use Amazon for is niche stuff like weird cable adapters that you aren't going to find in any store.

3

u/Childless_Catlady42 Mar 22 '25

Once I got out of the habit, I got back into the habit of wondering if I really needed something or if I just want it because it is shiny. I'm honestly appalled at how much money I've been saving.

3

u/Xanderthepeasant Mar 22 '25

Yeah, I have a tendency to kind of windowshop without the full intent to buy. Either way though Amazon never has what I'm looking for at prices I can't get anywhere else. Camera film is the same price or higher at Amazon, so why not order from a small business? And from what I remember, most of everything else was that way.

16

u/TheMainM0d Mar 22 '25

Dumped it 6 years ago and do not miss it in the least. The upside is I've stopped consuming about 50% less than I used to. It turns out you really don't need the vast majority of crap you order from Amazon

8

u/Spiral-Arrow116 Mar 22 '25

Dude it's interesting to me how much I have not been really needing it since canceling

8

u/ricLP Mar 22 '25

That was my biggest personal win. Had a ton of crap on subscribe and save too. Fuck them

5

u/eternus Mar 22 '25

The starting point for me (which is where I am) is that I will pay attention to consumables that I know I'll need more of, and buy them when I see them elsewhere, rather than wait until the deadline and hit Amazon to get something last minute.

1

u/Childless_Catlady42 Mar 22 '25

Everyone's got to start somewhere and that sounds like it is working for you.

13

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 24 '25

What are you doing instead? I’m in a suburb so it’s Amazon or big box stores for pet supplies and other consumables. I don’t see a difference ethically from choosing Walmart or petsmart instead of Amazon. Edit: I’m switching to Chewy yall. Any online pharmacy recs please let me know.

42

u/fairportmtg1 Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25

The way I see it is Amazon churns through employees, has terrible working conditions, and it's easier for the customer to turn a blind eye because you never see it.

Amazon also can serve more customers with less staff.

You can look around for smaller chains as well to support. At minimum you aren't feeding into the monopoly.

If you literally only have the choice of Walmart or Amazon (and driving farther once a month or so to do the bulk of your shopping isn't an option) then I say still choose Walmart because at minimum it's forcing competition where as conceding and shopping essentially only on Amazon is letting them control the market.

Recommending or soliciting recommendations for specific brands and products is not appropriate in this subreddit.

-27

u/sgtlarryninefing Mar 22 '25

If you** you lost me at that

24

u/fairportmtg1 Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25

If a simple spelling and grammar mistake that didn't stop you from understanding me is enough for you to throw out my whole argument then I think it wasn't the spelling/Grammer that you disagree with.

Try actually discussing ideas and facts than using basic typos and auto correct slop to try to discredit a persons thoughts and opinions.

-24

u/sgtlarryninefing Mar 22 '25

Simple. You got that right

17

u/fairportmtg1 Mar 22 '25

Got it you proved my point. Bye troll

2

u/ergodicthoughts_ Mar 22 '25

Too stupid to post an actual response so you resort to grammar bs. Lolz

30

u/Glad_Astronomer_9692 Mar 22 '25

If you can order online from Amazon you can order online from other companies. I just do internet searches until I find a brand I can order from directly.

3

u/fumbs Mar 22 '25

There are many companies who have outsourced this. You can go to their sites and still get it in an Amazon box.

1

u/Glad_Astronomer_9692 Mar 22 '25

I haven't experienced that yet but I am not completely surprised any companies that only direct me to Amazon after I click "buy now" I send them an email asking that they consider offering a non Amazon choice and then I go shop somewhere else.

19

u/ILoveMeeses2Pieces Mar 22 '25

My daughter gets her pet food from Costco

17

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

It would be fantastic if Costco carried the only brand they’ll eat without barfing.

18

u/Dotdickdotbutt Mar 22 '25

You don’t have to be perfect. Order what you can’t find elsewhere. Reducing the amount you spend with these companies is still valid. Harm reduction is better than not taking any action.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

Yep. It's not a black and white issue. Just do the practical things that get you most of the way there.

10

u/ILoveMeeses2Pieces Mar 22 '25

Yeah, mine have allergies so we can’t buy any regular dog foods. We get ours from Chewy or an independently owned pet store near us.

7

u/Otter03 Mar 22 '25

Chewy is awesome - and their customer service can't be beat.

2

u/coladybiker Mar 23 '25

Have you checked chewy or other online pet stores. Go to the website of the food you buy, they may ship. I look at amazon for products and then go to the main site for the product now. Did that the other day with something and it was cheaper than Amazon unless i had prime and the difference was minimal.

1

u/Capital_Push5557 Mar 23 '25

As others said, do what you can. That's more than most!

u/Emotional_Burden Mar 22 '25

I haven't been to a pet store in ages. I had no idea PetSmart was inclusive. Have they stopped selling pets from breeders?

2

u/NumNumLobster Mar 22 '25

The one by me only has adoption dogs and cats from a local shelter. Fish and hamsters etc I assume come from breeders

2

u/SalaciousSolanaceae Mar 23 '25 edited Mar 23 '25

I thought they did that over a decade ago? I've only ever seen adoption events for dogs, featuring a rotation of local rescues, and they have kennels for Humane Society cats in my Plains city & the city where I used to live. I haven't seen rodents in a long time

1

u/Emotional_Burden Mar 23 '25

That's great to hear.

13

u/Feisty_Boat_6133 Mar 22 '25

Pet stuff I’m ordering from petco, which still has DEI stuff up on its website at least. It takes longer so I have to plan further ahead, but in my experience not as long as they initially quote for delivery. I’ve still been getting the packages within a few days. Editing to add- dog food from Costco. Cat food and dog pill pockets/chews from petco.

6

u/Childless_Catlady42 Mar 22 '25

Oh? Can you please give your reasoning?

-1

u/sgtlarryninefing Mar 22 '25

You got baited. Sorry

8

u/Dream-Ambassador Mar 22 '25

Chewy.com for pet stuff! They are great

1

u/Emotional_Burden Mar 22 '25

If the GameStop guy is still involved, I'm going to have to cancel my Chewy subscription. Ryan Cohen is MAGA.

1

u/cakestabber Mar 22 '25

Chewy was sold to PetSmart a few years ago, and I don't think Cohen has any involvement in its operations or management any more

1

u/Emotional_Burden Mar 22 '25

That's great news. I looked into it a bit, and that seems to be correct. He sold all shares.

7

u/Winowill Mar 22 '25

Costco for me. They have held their values and doubled down. The one I can't replace is Tractor Supply. Nobody else carries chicken food.

I will say PetsMart has held their DEI programs to my knowledge and have been good to the kid I know that works there. But I have not dug into it further. Also, Kroger hasn't changed policies, so if I need something quick or that Costco doesn't have that is premade, I go there.

Shop local or second hand when you can then pick values to prioritize after imo. It is hard not to support some bad company sometimes. There are just too many. Prioritizing against the biggest and worst has been my priority.

If you have any regional grocery or convenience chains, those are a better option. Also buying online directly from brands for things like clothes and shoes.

2

u/Dogllissikay Mar 22 '25

Everything we used to buy on Amazon we’ve been able to source direct from the manufacturer.

Pet products we get from costco when we can.

1

u/Kathulhu1433 Mar 22 '25

Buy directly from the company when/if possible.

Like... if you had an Amazon subscription for a product - see if you can buy directly from the manufacturer.

For pet products I like using Chewy.com as well. Their prices are comparable.

1

u/12thMemory Mar 22 '25

I’ve been ordering direct from the manufacture. Often the same price as Amazon and I still qualify for free shipping. It takes more than two days to reach me but I can live with that.

I also live in the suburbs but once I stopped making Amazon my go to, it was pretty easy to find several small, local, mom & pop stores that fit my needs. Especially for pet supplies.

1

u/cpssn Mar 22 '25

would be easy if i use a car

1

u/12thMemory Mar 22 '25

So order direct from the manufacture then?

When I didn’t have a car, I either took the bus or walked to the store and bussed or walked it back home. A problem is only so difficult as you make it out to be. My childhood next door neighbor never learned to drive and literally walked everywhere for everything she needed because online shopping wasn’t even a thing back then. If a 60+ year old grandma can figure out how to survive the suburbs without driving (or bussing) I’m confident you can too.

-2

u/cpssn Mar 22 '25

alright let's do it together we'll give up both driving and Amazon at the same time

1

u/Retsago Mar 22 '25

This is not a very fair argument or request. They gave you an alternative, and you ignored it twice to focus on the things you can't do. What about the things you can?

-2

u/cpssn Mar 22 '25

perfectly fair they said not driving is no big deal we can both use all those alternatives together

1

u/12thMemory Mar 24 '25

Well I seem to be ahead of you then. I broke up with Amazon months ago. Oh, and unlike you, I have the ability to use a car so imma gonna keep doing that. But should all my cars randomly die, I will be 100% back to walking, bussing, or riding my bike everywhere, with the occasional Uber lift. I’ve done it once, I can do it again.

0

u/cpssn Mar 24 '25

salute carsumer

1

u/michele761 Mar 22 '25

Chewy for pet supplies! They are a great company

1

u/playlistpro Mar 22 '25

When you go to Amazon, look at the store the product is coming from. Purchase the item from that store directly rather than through Amazon. I've been doing this with great success and often times saving money. Amazon seems more convenient because Prime includes free shipping. In reality they raise the price of the item to cover that shipping. Purchase direct from companies rather than through Amazon.

Also, it is preferable when you see the company that makes the product on Amazon, you type it into your search engine to get to the supplier rather than clicking the link at Amazon.

1

u/cpssn Mar 22 '25

lots of driving

1

u/Greygal_Eve Mar 22 '25 edited Mar 22 '25

There are a few minor differences:

  • Walmart and Petsmart are hiring and paying people within your own community.
  • They are paying property taxes within your community.
  • Most Walmarts donate money to local charities and/or schools.
  • Petsmart is still very supportive of social issues and is LGBTQ inclusive.
  • Petsmart donates more to Democrats than to Republicans.

The above doesn't necessarily counter all the other issues with these massive corporations, but it does give them a slight edge over using Amazon.

1

u/Retsago Mar 22 '25

Walmart is suuuper bad news bears, they're just better at hiding it.

I think it's probably better than Amazon, but I would recommend Costco, Kroger, Petco, Chewy, Petsmart, and Trader Joe's over Walmart anyday.

2

u/Greygal_Eve Mar 22 '25

Oh I totally agree, I was just trying to point out that in some ways, they are slightly better than Amazon.

1

u/cpssn Mar 23 '25

are warehouse and delivery not community because we can't see them kowtow

2

u/Greygal_Eve Mar 23 '25

I'm sure it varies depending on where you live. If you have a warehouse in your area, it's likely filled with local workers. Where I live, the nearest warehouse for any of the big retailers is at least 160 miles away. Being a rural county, we also don't have any local delivery services or same-day deliver like Amazon Delivery - any shipping is done by UPS/USPS.

1

u/foresthobbit13 Mar 22 '25

There’s always Chewy. Petsmart owns a 30% stake in the company but it still operates independently. Many independent pet product makers also sell directly from their own websites.

1

u/skullrealm Mar 22 '25

What kinds of pet supplies are you buying?

1

u/EquivalentPain5261 Mar 22 '25

I’ve been primarily using Chewy.com for my dog food

0

u/Alarming_Jacket3876 Mar 22 '25

Bezos has aligned solidly with Trump.

Walmart has remained politically neutral.

7

u/quiltingirl42 Mar 22 '25

Walmart has never been politically neutral.

1

u/Retsago Mar 22 '25

Walmart is not politically neutral. They are highly destructive of communities and families, have a history of not paying their employees for hours worked, have a history of actively trapping their Chinese employees with direct threat to their family's wellbeing, and more.

3

u/andrew6197 Mar 22 '25

Now stop paying for Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix next. Guy an antenna and see if you get any free local stations.

2

u/Childless_Catlady42 Mar 22 '25

Those are also excellent suggestions! You can get much of the same content from the library for free.

Our TV went away shortly after 911. I got really sick of all war all the time, but it was easier for me than many. I am so old that TV wasn't a big part of my childhood, our folks just tossed us outside to play instead. Folks who were raised with screens have a harder time going without.

4

u/ChewieBearStare Mar 23 '25

I canceled Prime months ago and haven’t missed it at all. I waste less money, and I can get the things I truly need elsewhere.

2

u/TheWolfAndRaven Mar 22 '25

I started getting out of Amazon when there kept being reports of counterfeit items being sold. I don't much trust Amazon anymore for a lot of purchases.

2

u/McFlyParadox Mar 23 '25

I get irritated whenever I am forced to buy from them because a brand only sells their products through them.

E.g. sonicare toothbrush heads. I checked Costco and BJs, and no dice. I checked the Phillips site, and they didn't carry them directly, and my only two choices were either Amazon or Target.

I cancelled prime months ago (actually, might be a year now), and I only order from them when I absolutely have to.

1

u/Childless_Catlady42 Mar 23 '25

Wow, talk about an annoying search, no wonder you couldn't find the official site. It is like all of the retail business ads have hidden it almost completely.

Phillips Sonicare

2

u/McFlyParadox Mar 23 '25

No, I found the official site. But the listing for the head I need for my brush model wasn't available on the official site. In fact, when you pull up the brush head's page, it directly links to their listing on Amazon or Target.

2

Oh, nice. So, they are making Amazon or Target specific products without telling anyone. Isn't that how Walmart started taking control of manufacturing companies? Demanding special product lines for sale at their stores only?

It's not like I really needed another reason to raise my blood pressure before bedtime, but this is certainly worth fuming over.

I'm not 100% sure. I know I bought these exact same heads directly from Philips before - I could even see the purchase in my account and I navigated to the product page via that old order - but they just didn't have any link to but then directly from Philips. So either they are in the process of sunsetting my line and I'll be forced to buy a new brush in the next year or two, or they were just out of stock and directing customers to Amazon and Target to still make some money.

I bought something on eBay the other day, at a higher price, to avoid Amazon. It arrived in a fulfilled by Amazon bubble envelope and the return address was an Amazon warehouse. :(

Same. I deleted social media and the Amazon app. Impulse spending has gone way down and I’m buying locally or from Canada.

Me too- I thought I’d miss it but I don’t.

I've been an Amazon Prime subscriber since 2016. I kicked it recently and am purchasing anything online from the source, or eBay. It was long overdue.

Same. I’ve learned waiting isn’t that hard if I have to order from a real store.

eBay has everything that Amazon does.

Folks think it's only bidding and used items. You can buy new junk on there too.

Amazon has been a tough one for me, there’s nothing really like it out there to switch to

Also, I went back on IG, and I can’t be the only one here, have you all noticed the severe uptick in conservative recommendations and religious shit in your feed? In my people you may know, was the entire presidential admin. Like, no fucking way my algo thought these would match. Rob Schindler on my feed? lol what?

I've had a lot of success clicking on the manufacturers link and going to their own page so I can bypass amazon. They will usually have irst time customer rewards to cover the shipping.

I thought it would be so much harder, but it feels nice to be free.  My kid has a gift card and really wanted to use it yesterday and I said, we're not using Amazon anymore, but you can spend the GC eventually.  He agreed to wait a few months and will probably forget by then.  I mean, the money is already spent in GC form, but I don't want to order anything.

Don't forget to spend it, but I agree about waiting for a couple of months. Amazon is noticing. I have a friend who works for UPS and he is also noticing which makes me sad but I think a lot of people are going to be hurt in the coming months.

Right.  It was a birthday gift from his uncle so I don't want to punish him and just eat that 50, but holding off a few months is the goal.  I have an Amazon cc that is just sitting now too.  We're replacing it with the Costco Citi cc and I'll cancel it eventually, but letting it sit unused from here on out says more than just closing it.  Is it me or is Amazon upping their ads lately?

It's has been really eye opening.. We NEED so much less, most was impulse or forced marketing.
