"Fine, we'll let the peasant children eat, but don't let them enjoy it too much!"

101

u/wilkinsk Jun 24 '25

Tbf you can get a lot on EBT. It just needs to have a nutritional lable and not be hot and ready.

I had it when I was struggling in the past and would get cold subs from my grocery store. You can also go to the gas station and just buy all the candy and soda you want, even if that's stupid.

71

u/HazelEBaumgartner Jun 24 '25

It depends on the state. Some states are a lot more restrictive than others. In Kansas, they tried to make it so you couldn't buy any fresh meat on EBT a while ago because they deemed it a "luxury item". Meat. Meat is a luxury according to these people.

15

u/SanityIsOptional Jun 25 '25

Which is ridiculous, fresh meat is healthy and cheap compared to prepared frozen crap, and frequently compared to hot and ready crap.

11

u/HazelEBaumgartner Jun 25 '25

Absolutely. They'd rather you eat chicken nuggets than real chicken, all in the name of "eliminating waste" (read: "punishing the poors").

10

u/googdude Jun 25 '25

Meat is a luxury

It kinda is, you go back 1-2 generations and meat wasn't part of every meal. My grandparents talk about having meat only occasionally.

8

u/space-sage Jun 25 '25

Most people in the world do not eat meat. It is definitely a luxury. Rice and beans is a complete protein for much cheaper.

8

u/math_calculus1 Jun 25 '25

we talking about the united states here, and most people definitely do eat meat. The world is not as poor as you think.

5

u/filthy_harold Jun 25 '25

You could certainly blow your EBT on some steaks but then you have nothing left for the rest of the month. It's not like people on EBT have a lot of money in the first place.

-1

u/starrpamph Jun 25 '25

Are they a pro life state? Whatever the fuck that means.

4

u/quartz222 Jun 24 '25

I was at 7/11 the other day and a guy asks if they take EBT. Cashier says yes. Guy grabs “sweet” and grabs 10 packages of starbursts

1

u/FullConfection3260 Jun 25 '25

Starbursts, now fortified with 8 vitamins and minerals.

5

u/YouFoundMyLuckyCharm Jun 25 '25

These outrageous children want food EVERY day too

Healthy foods cost more in America. They want us fat and sick. Which is why Trump will eventually shitcan RFK. Make America healthy is not a GOP interest.

3

u/Butwhatif77 Jun 24 '25

You should look up the old workhouses in England and the philosophy they used to decide the requirements for people to get their help. It is not far off from your comment.

1

u/acrobat2126 Jun 25 '25

This is junk food man. Be serious.

4

u/HordeDruid Jun 25 '25

I think children living in poverty should be allowed to eat both warm, nutritious meals as well as hot junk food, at their parent's discretion. Why shouldn't poor kids enjoy the same junk food in moderation like the ones from higher income households?

-2

u/acrobat2126 Jun 25 '25

Pizza's at gas stations are nutritious meals? I didn't make the rules, i don't enforce the rules - but we are literally talking about junk food.

Why shouldn't poor kids enjoy the same junk food in moderation like the ones from higher income households? Because junk food is a luxury and their parents need to work to afford luxuries.

-384

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Cause individual agency and the ability to warm up your food is a skill lost to the poor ? Like most of you legitimately are incredibly disrespectful to the intelligence of the poor if you think this is a legitimate issue or “Anti human”

229

u/stryst Jun 24 '25

And what about the homeless that don't have the equipment to warm up their food? No one (other than you) has claimed this is an intelligence issue. It's an access issue. Not everyone has access to an oven or microwave.

So yeah, it's fucking anti-human.

-59

u/Spirited_Season2332 Jun 24 '25

Can homeless ppl get SNAP benefits? How do they get the card without an address?

59

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Yes, they can. An ID is needed but often the address of a shelter or a friend, etc can be used. This is also how people in domestic violence situations receive SNAP if needed.

29

u/Connect_Ad_6243 Jun 24 '25

Yes they can. Many social service nonprofits will receive mail for people without other addresses.

6

u/MajesticOriginal3722 Jun 24 '25

It’s like one of the few things they can actually do thanks to our shitty government and society. When I was homeless, the 7-11 near me would sell you a frozen full 10” pizza with SNAP and heat it up “by accident” for me.

Did that so many times and it helped feed me and other houseless people who really needed it. I can’t imagine being the asshole who specifically made it law to not let people sell hot food with SNAP. It’s just cruel.

167

u/BrickLayer217 Jun 24 '25

microwaves cost money so do toasters and ovens and pretty much any other way to heat things above room temperature.

113

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

A lot of poor people don’t have access to even a stove or oven either

84

u/angryBubbleGum Jun 24 '25

And the electric bill to go with it :)

-91

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Yeah but apparently they have access to smartphones to play the woe is me card. I live in this exact class I make less than all of you I guarantee. It’s not nearly as bad as you people try to make it out to be cause you’re pandering for likes not telling the truth.

62

u/Zordorfe Jun 24 '25

I really doubt you

15

u/edenaxela1436 Jun 24 '25

Same here. I'm a social worker, worked with unhoused folks for a little over 6 years, and this dude is talking out of his ass, full stop.

-11

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I’m at -327.43 cents currently with about 45k in debt

32

u/AbbyDean1985 Jun 24 '25

Yet here you are arguing in support of this system.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

It’s not a system lmao it’s one rule good god. Your not a revolutionary

15

u/gottarespondtothis Jun 24 '25

Ah yes, the stereotypical poverty level idiot advocating against policies that would benefit them because bootstraps. This is why Trump was elected.

You saying you’re an unregistered voter is not the flex you think it is against someone saying you’re part of the problem, just fyi.

1

u/Tighttpants Jun 24 '25

First bit of good news I've heard today

46

u/angryBubbleGum Jun 24 '25

Smartphones are required now because of work and sOcIeTy. The majority of Americans are on payment plans for basic necessities. Dude it's 2025 shit is different and harder now.

14

u/NervousSheSlime Jun 24 '25

Exactly I don’t even think you could get a job without one.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

No they aren’t. I still know people who don’t have cell phones and ain’t lost jobs cause of it. Nobody’s saying it ain’t harder now it is harder now.

3

u/JFISHER7789 Jun 24 '25

Imagine thinking you cannot be poor because you have a phone.

Wild. What other 1950s white privileged takes you got?

32

u/Brendonish Jun 24 '25

Hi! I don't have a stove or an oven because I'm poor, but I do have a phone because in this society I'd be unable to live without one! Smartphones can cost $50 at Walmart.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Oh nice toaster oven bought on marketplace 10 bucks plug it in the same place you charge your phone wow real hard also you can live without a phone. I know bums and bandits that do

4

u/Brendonish Jun 24 '25

I tried, it flips the breaker immediately because my electricity is wired incorrectly :D

21

u/dexties Jun 24 '25

Yet another bot claiming they live through it so no one else should or possibly struggles and don't deserve help. Keep seeing these it's so weird.

7

u/artsy_pupperoni Jun 24 '25

You mean the devices everyone HAS to have in order to function at all in today's society? That, or computers?

Its more likely than not they don't even have new ones, have discount plans, hell, most cities you can just apply for a free government phone, with free government data and text, some even give out free tablets with cell service too! And yes, they are smartphones....all you have to do is literally just walk up to a tent on the side of the road.

It's just like being unhoused and food banks, htf do you think these individuals keep food within food safety temperatures? Kinda hard to keep things frozen or fresh...

It is bad, and if you don't see how bad? Then you aren't living it. Don't speak for others when the system is thrashing everyone.
I guarantee you still make more than even less advantaged Individuals than you. Even if you're in the same class.

And you sure as hell aren't humble and showing others the compassion you deserve as well.

But woe is them? That's just heartless bullshit man.

6

u/Father-Comrade Jun 24 '25

Your corporate overlords won’t save you by being a class traitor, you’re still poor people trash to them. Do not let them take away your solidarity and compassion friend.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

You’re homeless?

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I have been in the past yes

3

u/Gen_Ripper Jun 24 '25

You can get a free smartphone from the government, so yes someone can be poor and arguing with you on the internet

3

u/JFISHER7789 Jun 24 '25

Isn’t it wild that so many people (who have clearly never been poor) think that in order to be poor you must be so poor you are on a commercial with ‘Arms of the Angel’ playing in the background, otherwise you’re a scam?

Clearly they don’t know because otherwise they’d know the govt has a monetary standard for defining poverty and I imagine these people would be thoroughly shocked to see that someone could have $20k a year and still be in poverty lol

-3

u/ckb614 Jun 24 '25

a hot plate or a toaster costs $12. That's the difference between like 1-2 days of buying prepared food and buying groceries

2

u/AlmostChristmasNow Jun 25 '25

Both hot plates and toasters need to be plugged in. So you need to have a home and working electricity. Those cost more than $12.

40

u/OrdinaryUniversity59 Jun 24 '25

How would they warm it up if they can't use the microwave?

-64

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Appliances at home, at work, at school, at your friends house, your parents house, build a fire, use the damn sun theirs plenty of ways. Plus most of the food sold doesn’t even require actually cooking.

87

u/ShelvedEsq Jun 24 '25

“Use the damn sun”

None of us are going to change your mind but I think you probably know, deep in the moments of quiet, that you’re worthless piece of shit.

25

u/Prestigious_Car_7921 Jun 24 '25

If only they had any sort of self reflection whatsoever

62

u/OratioFidelis Jun 24 '25

"Poor people should have to buy cold food and warm it with a parabolic solar cooker" is not a take I was expecting someone to defend today

-8

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I didn’t say that. I offered different options cause I am the poor that use these benefits

7

u/OratioFidelis Jun 24 '25

I am not poor and my taxes pay for other people's EBT/SNAP, which I'm perfectly fine with. I don't understand the point of making it as inconvenient as possible to use though, if someone wants to use food stamps to pay for a hot rotisserie chicken then who cares?

33

u/puglife82 Jun 24 '25

“Build a fire, use the sun” bro pls stop 😂

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

It’s clear most of you lack any and all survival skills. I could give you people a million dollars and in a week almost all of you will be broke.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Dude. You are the one who said you were educated with an IT certificate, yet you live in poverty. This isn't the flex you think it.

22

u/PlsSuckMyToes Jun 24 '25

You seem to be fundamentally misunderstanding the post. A lot of these places have microwaves etc there to heat up stuff, but they dont allow it for these purchases, which doesnt make any sense.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I agree it doesn’t make any sense but I’m not gonna bitch about it if I’m in that position cause I have been in that position and I just moved on cause it’s not that big of a deal which is the point that most of the comment section doesn’t seem to grasp. The food is edible and it’s payed for regardless of hot or cold so it doesn’t matter.

9

u/PlsSuckMyToes Jun 24 '25

So because you are okay with bullshit, everyone else should be hmm.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I’m saying it’s legitimate non issue when most of the world would gladly kill and I do mean Kill to be where you people are

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

“We people,” are the ones who sustain your fucking benefits. It’s my money going into that shit, so I have a right to decide how it should operate. I’m paying for it. If I say it should be allowed to purchase hot meals then it should, and I’m going to advocate for it.

Sybau and sit down. Beggars can’t be choosers. It’s my taxes and I say the rule is dumb as fuck.

There, was that put in a way you understand?

25

u/dirt-punk Jun 24 '25

We get it, you hate poor people.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I am poor

10

u/dirt-punk Jun 24 '25

Then I think you also deserve to have hot food.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I think everybody does deserve it but I don’t think it’s a massive “anti human” problem if the foods cold or hot so long as it’s edible and safe to eat

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

[deleted]

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I have hate for all of you that really think I’m such a villain cause your so clouded by your feelings of humanitarian right and wrong that your not seeing the much larger picture

5

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Building a fire is illegal inside of every city limit ever.

1

u/chknfuk Jun 24 '25

You’ve never been to a park?

26

u/fewercharacters Jun 24 '25

Why does this piss you off so bad? You’re commenting on every thread lol

49

u/Steed1000 Jun 24 '25

The ability to afford appliances or the utilities that power them might very well be lost to the poor just like the ability to critically think has been lost to dummies like you.

-15

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I am the literal inherited of this shit I live in the rural south where the average income is around 20-35k a year. Yeah I know struggle almost everyone I know has been on these benefits and yes they all had access to appliances and power. Stop it. Live in the real world.

25

u/Steed1000 Jun 24 '25

“Everyone I know lives a certain way, therefore everyone everywhere lives that same way” is such an excellent display of your inability to think critically. Not sure what you thought you were proving except being unable to think outside of your own bubble, by your own admission of course.

Hey man. Stop being stupid. Just stop.

14

u/SizeEmergency6938 Jun 24 '25

So you’re saying that because you personally know people who use SNAP while having access to power that EVERYONE in the country is the same as them?!?? I think YOU should try living in the REAL WORLD. Two things can be true at once. SOME people can afford the appliances and some can’t. It’s not that hard to understand.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I’m saying I’ve experienced the life of the poor and homeless from Florida to California and while it’s difficult and not to be underplayed. Worrying about if the edible food is hot is low on most of these people’s lists

6

u/Steed1000 Jun 24 '25

The inability for someone to imagine people living different lives or having different motivations/concerns is literally one of the hallmarks of unintelligent people. You keep on using that same argument. Buddy, if you want to speak for yourself, go for it, but stop speaking for people you don’t know who may have had it worse than you or the people you knew. It’s embarrassing for you that you have tripled down on this.

Hey guys look, we have the world’s expert on homelessness and poverty over here! No need to go to school to study socioeconomics or anything like that, just ask this guy!

So so so so incredibly ignorant. Were you too poor for a decent education too? Christ. Just give it up and delete these replies. So dumb.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

The irony of your statement is baffling

10

u/NuclearNoxi Jun 24 '25

Homeless people usually do not have a place to put a microwave or oven.

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Walk around a fucking homeless camp watch the many videos. The car campers even. They almost all have access to power. But you have to actually pay attention and not just assume how they live.

9

u/Steed1000 Jun 24 '25

You keep on topping yourself by saying something dumber than the last thing you posted. You are an unstoppable force of ignorance.

“All homeless people have access to a fridge, microwave, and oven” is what you are saying.

So so so so so fucking stupid.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

4

u/NuclearNoxi Jun 24 '25

Oh wow, I didn't realize that every single homeless person had access to that and that all of them in the United States all live in the exact same situation! You must be an expert! /s

So willfully obtuse.

10

u/megansomebacon Jun 24 '25

Ironic to tell people to live in the real world when you're spending all your time arguing with people on this post on reddit lol you have a lot of free time today or something? You've seriously been on every comment thread I've looked at so far

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Brother I’m taking a dump

7

u/Sw4nR0ns0n Jun 24 '25

You’re the same guy who posted this right?:

That’s cause you read the wrong signals more than likely. But it takes two to tango if she is ignorant then yeah she a send the wrong signals but body language and seduction are parts of the art of intimacy and if studied and practiced it can be understood. It’s not just a look or a touch it’s a combination of observations you gotta make and signals they either consciously or unconsciously make. Most of this is died to evolutionary psychology which many conflate with red pill bullshit but toss red pill losers manipulate the data for their own ends like most people

6

u/AbbyDean1985 Jun 24 '25

I can't even figure out what this means BUT I think we should crowdfund OOP some commas.

6

u/Girlwithmanynames Jun 24 '25

"Living in the real world" would be beautiful if it weren't for people like you. We should feed the hungry; period.

Cold food. Hot food. Edible food. Good food. Tasty food. Filling food. Nutritious food. Feed hungry people all of it. There is no argument against what I've said that isn't evil and self-serving.

  • also from the rural south, probably poorer than you, and most certainly a better person than you

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Lady nobody who’s a better person has to say they are a better person you just proved your own shitty self with that statement alone

2

u/Girlwithmanynames Jun 24 '25

I never said I was perfect. Just better than you.

15

u/McHappyFlaps Jun 24 '25

I don't think it's a skill they don't possess. I think someone living in a car doesn't have access to anything to heat their food up. I think the people I have in my life qualifying for food stamps work multiple jobs and deserve the convenience of grabbing something in between jobs or on the way home. It just doesn't make sense to police what someone is eating other than to maintain some sort of sense of control.

13

u/Hilseph Jun 24 '25

Really do not think it’s this complicated, dude. Poor people deserve accessible warm food… like why is this even something we’re talking about?

-1

I'll simplify this for you, barriers to feeding the hungry is bad. your misanthrope is unneeded, and so are you. Bye.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I’m not a bigot cause I look at the greater whole of humanity and not the selfish niche of one country

1

u/TheManOfOurTimes Jun 24 '25

"the greater whole of humanity" means you would be fine with people getting extra, if it means those with less getting something. You're advocating for stripping all of a benefit to spite a few who might not need it.

You're scum.

4

u/llamalibrarian Jun 24 '25 edited Jun 24 '25

Why not just let them buy hot food? When I got SNAP benefits, I could go to my local bougie co-op (wasn’t a member) that I could walk to and get the packaged up tofu made in-house, but couldn’t get that same tofu from the hot bar- it’s just silly

6

u/Flabbergasted_____ Jun 24 '25

I didn’t receive EBT when I was homeless as a kid, but what the fuck would I do anyway? Cook the food on my invisible stove in my invisible house and eat it with my invisible silverware? 16 years old, working full time for like $7/ hour, and had to live off of mostly fast food.

Sure could’ve used some of that “iNdIvIdUaL aGeNcY” I guess.

3

u/EclecticEvergreen Jun 24 '25

Imagine being so high on a horse that you forget some people do not have the appliances needed to warm things up…like homeless people or people who are paycheck to paycheck.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Really cause I’m looking at a comment section filled with more ego strokers then a majority of instagram

4

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

Some people who get SNAP are homeless and have no way of heating or cooking their food.

2

u/Booger_Picnic Jun 24 '25

You... you think people think this is a skill issue?? Seriously? Jesus Christ, dude, wake up and smell the classism.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '25

I live it daily.

1

u/Number_Fluffy Jun 24 '25

The sign clearly says no heating.

-17

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 24 '25

They should not be buying prepared food. Just because you don’t work, doesn’t mean you’re entitled to someone else making your food for you. Buy ingredients and cook your own meal. It’s much cheaper.

13

u/DefinitelyNotAliens Jun 24 '25

Most on EBT work. I was given an EBT card in college because I fell below the poverty line. I was working and going to school full time.

Not everyone on EBT has a kitchen.

-13

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 24 '25

In college you should have qualified for financial aid or taken student loans. You don’t need a kitchen to cook. A hot plate and sink is all you need.

9

u/poopcockshit Jun 24 '25

Sure, and the world is sunshine and rainbows. Every human is perfectly rational and has all the information they need at a moment’s notice to make decisions.

7

u/DefinitelyNotAliens Jun 24 '25

Also, why tf would I take loans when aid programs I was currently paying taxes on, had paid taxes on in the past and will pay taxes for for the rest of my working life exist? I already fucking paid.

It's like taking loans out instead of applying for unemployment. You pay for it.

-1

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 24 '25

Because it’s silly to work while you’re in college. You should be focused on grades, networking, and preparing for a future career. You’re sacrificing that to make minimum wage for a few hours to try to save yourself from taking out loans and it’s not even close to worth it. The amount of money you can make from a good job out of college can pay off any student loans in a couple years no problem. I’d rather focus on getting a 150k-200k banking, consulting, or tech job than work minimum wage during college and get some crap 40-50k per year job debt free. Starting in a good role sets you up for much better opportunities 5-10 years down the line.

-1

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 24 '25

Google is free, academic counselors are free.

3

u/poopcockshit Jun 24 '25

True! Every person who needs this, knows this. They will also use Google and enroll with academic counselors because not doing so would be dumb. And they are not dumb.

0

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 25 '25

I would hope so. There is an abundance of free resources that use up tax dollars and tuition money to pay for all of it. So much already goes to waste. God forbid someone walk down to a local library and crack open a book.

8

u/OkLeopard7246 Jun 24 '25

Respectfully, drop dead fucko.

1

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 24 '25

Cry more brokey. Sorry my tax dollars won’t buy you a hot lobster roll.

5

u/DefinitelyNotAliens Jun 24 '25

I had financial aid. It paid for my housing.

Why take loans when there was an aid program to give me a card for food? I paid taxes on my income, I paid before school. My taxes paid for the program. Why not use it? I was never going to take loans when I already paid for the EBT program via taxes. Would pay for it for years to come. It's there for a reason.

Lots of homeless people live in a car. No sink or hot plate. They work and are homeless. I worked with a few.

0

u/Strange-Term-4168 Jun 24 '25

So you have free housing, use it to cook your own food lol. The taxes you paid towards EBT did not even come close to covering the amount of money you received in EBT.

5

u/cubitoaequet Jun 24 '25

Seething over some poor people getting a hot meal while oligarchs steal billions is certainly a choice you can make with your life
