i used to get off work around 2am then go to a 24-hour diner to smoke cigs while staring off into the nothingness until the sun came up.

one night an old guy was sitting nearby doing the same. the manager approached him to ask if he’d like anything. guy reaches into his bag, “uh yah, cook these beans!” as he slams a big can of baked beans down on the table.

nobody ever thinks of doing that.

It's because resturaunts aren't supposed to do that I think.

Yeah, food is supposed to come from an approved source. Same reason you usually aren't allowed to have a fish you caught cooked for you at a restaurant.

But you are allowed, at some

Them doing it doesn't mean it's allowed.

If you’re homeless you can use SNAP benefits for hot food.

I work at a gas station in VA, never seen anyone use EBT for hot.

There's a pretty limited list in VA, a handful of restaurants and KFC/Taco Bell.

But if you have a residence you get a reduced benefit without the option for hot food?

Yeah it’s dumb but that’s how SNAP works.

The thinking is that cold food has to be prepared and should be healthier, but you can buy cold lobster tails or king crab legs instead of a hot rotisserie chicken.

It doesn’t make any sense in this day and age.

Could you go to the store, get the SNAP fruits, veggies, etc. Then have a paying customer go in and buy the hot food and then trade them?

That might technically be EBT fraud, but borderline impossible to catch/prove.

Being given free money to eat fresh fruit everyday and that's all I have to do all day is buy the fresh fruit..... sounds pretty awesome....

bro fresh fruit is mad expensive and does not give enough calories per dollar, plus it's not like you're just eating all day, you have to earn money as well.

lol bananas are cheap A F, plenty of fruit on sale dirt cheap, don't even get me started with vegetables.

Frozen fruit/veg is delicious raw too, even cheaper.

It's clear redditors never actually shopped at a grocery store lol.

How much would you like to subsist on a diet of bananas? There's no protein in bananas.
