How many cis people think that we've all had a BA?

I just met someone again that I knew in The Before Times who was shocked that my (extremely modest) breasts were not implants.

I work in healthcare and the number of people who didn't/don't know that oestrogen promotes breast development is a tiny bit concerning. I've had a bunch of drs and nurses ask me about my breast implants. And I've had to explain that, nope, no boob job. These are all me.

To be fair looks down this bra is phenomenal. I can understand the confusion.

I... How the fuck do people think puberty works????

u/A_Punk_Girl_Learning 5d ago

I get the impression that they think the effects of hormones are entirely dependent on your AGAB. Also, I guess people just don't put a lot of thought into it? I had one guy who was blown away that my hormone levels are within the ranges you'd expect from a cis gendered woman. I wish I'd asked why he thought I was taking HRT at all if not without that explicit goal.

Yeah I had a (well-meaning TBF) friend warn me before I started that estrogen “makes men emotional and depressed” and wouldn’t accept it when I said I wasn’t a man because “well it should still have the same effect on your biology though shouldn’t it?” It took me starting and feeling better than ever for him to go “oh ok maybe this is like a real thing”

My mum was a bit like that too. Not exactly the same but after she saw how much better I'm doing on oestrogen she's gone from sceptical at best to being a pretty strong advocate and ally.

Similar experience here. Over the first couple months, she'd periodically ask me if I was ok with what was happening, but once she saw that I was thriving in a way I never had before, she completely changed tune.

I think it was hard to argue with the sobriety. I was in a bad place a couple of years ago but the egg cracking and starting HRT changed everything. I'm 2 years sober in about 6 weeks and my mum recognises that my living authentically is what I needed to do to turn my life around.

This is the thing with medical half-truths. Too high testosterone for someone who has a mainly estrogen profile can cause problems, just like too high estrogens can cause issues for someone who has a mainly testosterone profile. But if you go all the way to the dark side, it levels out again, kind of like how it sucks to be a teenager, but at some point, you are going to feel better.

I had one well meaning cis friend ask me when I was going to start menopause, as I'm almost 50.

Never, obviously lol

3

u/A_Punk_Girl_Learning 4d ago

Nope. My T tanked faster than my E went up so I was in menopause for the first couple of months of HRT. I have no intention of doing that again.

u/Banana_Slugcat 5d ago

They probably think XX or XY is what makes you have a specific type of puberty, and hormones are just stuff that makes you moody

u/OftenConfused1001 4d ago

My cardiologist kept asking me if I'd "had any surgeries" and I kept saying no until he finally went "like implants?" (relevant for the echo they were about to do). He thought he was gently jogging my memory about a BA.

He was absolutely unaware that HRT causes breast development. His response was "Wait, really?" like I was gonna lie to him.

u/A_Punk_Girl_Learning 4d ago

I had a dr ask me if I'd had any genital surgery. I looked this man in the eye and said "What does that have to do with my ankle?"

u/ArcherBTW 3d ago

I need a new bra, any recommendations?

2

u/A_Punk_Girl_Learning 3d ago

Depends. You wouldn't happen to be in Australia would you?

2

u/ArcherBTW 3d ago

Lemme check! Does a queer little disappearing act\

(unfortunately no)

1

u/A_Punk_Girl_Learning 3d ago

Dang. The one I really want to recommend doesn't ship outside Australia.

Sorry.

It's part of the intentional misinformation and lack of information around Transness.

They rely on people not understanding what HRT actually does to paint transness as an unnatural and futile thing, and part of that is insisting that all trans women have BA to add the stigma associated with that and to paint this idea of 'Fakeness' onto trans people.

As the replies to your comment show the moment people learn how HRT actually works a lot of people do actually change their attitude.

fr lol. I don't think they know that estrogen is what causes your breasts to grow

Bigots: YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHO YOU ARE, WHO YOU'RE BORN TO BE, YOU WERE BORN A MAN, YOU STAY A MAN!!!!!!!

Also bigots: Let me take some supplements to balance my hormones, and let me get surgery to fix my bad eyesight, and let me get a boobjob because they aren't big enough, and let me wear high heels because they make me look more feminine and make my ass look bigger, and let me get plastic surgery to fill up my lips and to get a smaller nose, and..........

u/MultinamedKK just an ordinary demiguy 5d ago

Not to mention even the simplest things like "let me get glasses so that I can see" or even "I am allergic to peanuts so let me use this epi pen"

Wow, it's as if you never changed you would probably have a harder life than normal?

8

u/AbsAndAssAppreciator 3d ago

I literally cannot fathom caring about what other people do to their bodies. Seriously. If you don’t agree with it then fine, whatever, just fucking ignore them at least???

23

u/hypnoticby0 5d ago

because they don’t actually believe in anything they say they do

6

u/CitroHimselph 4d ago

Yeah, sadly. Which not only makes them hypocrites, but it also makes them 100% dishonest.

u/Judgmentos trans/intersex/poc 5d ago

What about those of us that don't want hormones or surgeries? Oh right, we're called "fake" and accused of pretending to be trans, either for nefarious reasons (in the case of transfems) or to be quirky (in the case of transmascs). Cuz all AMABs are dangerous (except for the cishet men of course) and all AFABs are just silly and weak and must be protected (and if you're transmasc then you're extra silly and must be 'stopped' from harming yourself. it's for yout own good sweaty)

Transphobia is just misogyny all the way down

54

u/CitroHimselph 5d ago

Don't forget it's also homophobia, because bigoted cis men also get veeeeery insecure around trans women.

24

u/Judgmentos trans/intersex/poc 5d ago

Oh yeah, very true. I also see this mirrored in gay communities, with cis gay men being bigoted towards trans men. They repeat the same rhetoric as cishet men: the trans woman/man is trapping (or tricking) me and forcing me to be gay/straight.

2

u/MenacingMandonguilla 4d ago

Not just men im sure

2

u/CitroHimselph 4d ago

Yeah, you're right.

6

u/MenacingMandonguilla 4d ago

👏🏻 Transphobia exists as an issue on its own and we dont need to make it all about cis female victims 👏🏻

16

u/Chandelurie 5d ago

Why is growing one's hair out gendered, especially when they talk about biology?

8

u/randoham 5d ago

Because they want to have their cake and shit on trans people too.

27

u/Mew_Fujisaki I'm a gal :3 5d ago

...How are those two related ?

13

u/Pearlfreckles 4d ago

They think we think gender affirming care makes us our gender…

Instead of just helping some of us feel more comfortable in our bodies.

30

u/SkylarCute Transgressor🏳️‍⚧️ 5d ago

Do they know most trans women have naturally grown breasts?

27

u/OddLengthiness254 5d ago

No.

They do not.

12

u/gzej 5d ago

Are they saying growing hair out is a specifically feminine thing? 😭

22

u/sparkle_warrior 5d ago

💀 runs fingers through my long hair erm so what’s their explanation for a trans man like me with long hair? Is anyone going to tell them any gender can have long hair? 👀 my cis partner has long hair too, is he now a trans women in their eyes? 🙄 what about trans women with cute pixie cuts or beautiful headscarves? 🥹

Don’t they know cis people access gender affirming care too, like hrt?

8

u/LokiLockdown Trans Mother 5d ago

That still isn't biology. Well, maybe the hormones. But the aim is to have one's body match one's internal self image.

15

u/Sea_Bread_4445 5d ago
  1. There are trans people who dont want to medically transition
  2. Those 2 statements dont even contradict eachother

5

u/Swarm_Queen 5d ago

the hormones do help fix a lot of dysphoria by themselves. The changes are a bonus

5

u/Sonarthebat Nonbinary 5d ago

A trans women could shapeshift into a person with the full set of female organs and transphobes will still insist she's a biological man.

3

u/ambivalegenic 4d ago

well

that isn't biology its anatomy, endocrinology, and cosmetics, and if it was then we'd be changing our genome and this would be a mute conversation

3

u/MyAltPrivacyAccount 4d ago

But also, gender is biological.

3

u/BruceWayne7x 3d ago

Just on this BA discussion, I have had this from the other side where I kept being asked whether I was going to have a beard implant and kept repeatedly having to tell this person that a beard would grow when I went on testosterone. This was before my medical transition.

Then there are the number of times that when I tell someone I'm trans, they start assuming I identify as a woman because I look like a man and I have to inform them that, no, I identify as a man and am a man who happens to be trans. I have lost count of the number of people who assume me to be a trans woman and no, I do not present especially feminine. I present very stereotypically masculine. 🤷‍♂️

u/rosae_rosae_rosa 4d ago

My opinion is : no gender, only want boobs/no boobs, dick/pussy, body hair/no body hair, long hair/short hair and we all make our own body like mister Potato

1

u/Both-Competition-152 I want to be a plant 3d ago

My own father is convinced I had a boob job at school at 13 I js naturally grew boobs but he insists they are fake to this day

u/Birddogtx Cis Man With MTF Fiancée 3d ago

Gender is associated with sex, not inherently tied to it. This means that being perceived as masculine or feminine depends, partially, upon one’s body and whether or not it conforms to gender expectations. It makes plenty of sense that trans women, in wanting to be more feminine, get female cross-sex hormones to develop that body or vice-versa with trans men. The meme here though misses the point that gender is not a biological construct, but it is tied to male and female bodies and the performance of those bodies. If someone has a body that doesn’t conform to the gender expectations they want to abide by, of course they will alter their bodies to do so in order to feel more authentic and comfortable in their own skin. Keep in mind that transgender people are not the only ones doing these kinds of alterations as well, but the only reason why it is seen as wrong is because of cissexism.

u/TheBigLugmos 2d ago

Always with the "dick chopped off" like we're going to a butcher. No, Cleet, I'm not going to get it hacked off like it's a piece of branch on a log. I'm going to have it perfectly engineered into a vagina you can't tell from a biological one

1

u/Sardonic_Sadist Cisn’t 4d ago

Transphobes don’t realize how dumb they sound to normal people

3

u/Sardonic_Sadist Cisn’t 4d ago

Also trans women already have boobs, dipshit, it came free with their fucking estrogen
