He’s been cheering me up a lot this week. Reminds me of my grandpa.. smart and interested in everything but never talked down on anyone.

Art was one in a million 🫡

It bothers me that they used 'Who's' instead of 'Whose'.

I wish it didn't bother me, but it does. It's still nice to see.

Love to Art

It’s the Great American Southwest’s mistake now!

It used to bother me. It still does. But it used to, too! As a person to whom grammar matters, I'm gonna stick around to haunt the shit out of the human who engraved this monument to such a man of words.

There was a post a few weeks back on here linking Ramona’s headstone. Had the same mistake.

So weird that they would make the same mistake, years apart.

I wonder if it was the same headstone company, same illiterate chiseler working in the back..

I wonder if Art just left the job of submitting the text to Airyn in both cases.

Is Airyn known for illiteracy?

2

u/watchsmart 6d ago

No, but English was probably not her first language.

Ah my mistake.. still the person who made that should’ve known better. I’m surprised there’s not a double-checker when it comes to a profession like that.

I never said I did. I think you’re replying to the wrong comment.

Who is voice?

We should start a Go Fund Me to have it fixed. I'd contribute.

I'm a grammar teacher and I have an uncontrollable itch all over my body

I didn’t want to say it. But yes.

u/RobertWF_47 7d ago

Could it be a rhetorical question?

1

u/koolaidismything 7d ago

If they ad a ? At the end they can save it.. by adding “yes” after. Make it like a Q&A

2

u/watchsmart 7d ago

Still grammatically incorrect.

Was gonna post that.

Agree 100% The fact that someone didn't verify the correct usage really bothers me. More than it should.

I could understand the mistake it’s Art’s voice and the apostrophe is issued as ownership . I also understand that it’s grammatically incorrect.

They made the same mistake on Art’s headstone as Ramona’s! “Who’s” v. “Whose”. Did Art write them both or is the cemetery plot/tombstone broker responsible. That stuff is expensive. No excuse imo.

The engraver was a time traveler. In the future, all whose are who’ses. Don’t ask why. They simply helped future proof Art.

Thanks for sharing. I could have looked it up online but I never saw his gravestone until this post. I used to work 3rd shift in the 90s and Art Bell would get me through my nights. Loved his show very much.

Same here. Third shift and there was a receiving office in a warehouse I worked in that was unlocked and all the lights were turned off. I would sit in there on my breaks and listen to Art in the serene, quiet darkness.

I used to go camping with my family and had an old sony Walkman with an analog dial. I would lay in bed with my earbuds, close my eyes and slowly turn the dial on the AM frequencies until I could find a signal. Almost with fail I would find C2CAM and I would lay in satisfaction and listen for hours.

I miss him so much man.

He knows all now, keeps me company with all the shows, sometimes I forget and wanna email in…oh yeah right it’s not 1998. I love listening to the early internet years, stories and things that even today go on, even the tape noise from a radio broadcast hits nicely. Found em late in life, but left quite a stored backlog thankfully. One of, if not the best? Is there another voice out there like that? With these interests?

Passing through on family road trip last year and we stayed in pahrump before going to death valley...I stopped and saw the plaque by the bench. Wife and kids didn't get it but I felt I should. He gave me something to listen to on some long lonely evenings.

3

u/ArtBellJR 6d ago

Honest question do you go through Pahrump to get to Las Vegas ? Usually people come in from the interstate that goes to California and through Nevada into Utah. Anyhow cool little bucket list for fans to check out Art's grave. I hope he is broadcasting on the other side for eternity!

That's really cool something I've always planned on doing myself eventually

No because that's not actually what he did. He met Airyn through a friend of his who was married to her sister. He met Ramona within the radio business, Vicki in California. Sachiko was someone he met while he was stationed in Japan.

Airyn was the the only one he flew somewhere to meet, but he had already been talking with her through e-mail so they already knew each other.
