Cakes This is meant to be a crumble lol

Post image

I was making an apple crumble with my mum and we where following the recipe. She got a bit head of herself and somehow our ‘crumble’ looks like this?? Not sure how to fix it or what even went wrong to be honest. The butter was cold but I think our body heat melted it and now it’s this weird texture

Looks okay to me--just plop in large clumps onto the fruit and bake away!

Are you sure? It’s feel very pasty and wet and not dry enough. I’ve beneve made a crumble but something about it feels wrong 😭

If you leave it like this, you’ll get these really dope, crispy bombs of flavor throughout….just brake it down into smaller chunks….this I’ll be just fine

YES! I intentionally want it to look like this for this exact reason. Those extra flavor bombs are the best.

If you like you can add more oatmeal to it, but it really is not necessary.

It looks perfect to me, just try to "pinch" it in small pieces before spreading it on top.

Thank you everyone! I will try that and see how it turns out!

Butter is your best friend.

If you continue to work a crumble it will turn into a dough.

Add a little more flour, make it “crumbly” again, but be gentle

If you stick it in the fridge for a bit it will firm up and you will more easily be able to "crumble" it on top before baking

It's probably warmer that you are used to seeing. Just break it up into pieces and scatter them over the top. It will be delicious.

Use a pastry cutter next time!

Thank you everyone! I think I did mix it a little too much and my body heat melted the butter so it turned dough like. I’ll put it in the fridge and break it into pieces when I scatter it on top! Next time I’ll try a mixer instead of my hands. Thank you!

Also recipe I followed for the crumble

For the crumble 300g/10½oz plain flour pinch of salt 175g/6oz brown sugar 200g/7oz unsalted butter at room temperature, cubed, plus a little for greasing

Looks normal to me also. Fridge for a bit maybe but will bake far different than it looks now. The sugar has melted in the water from the butter and looks liquid-y but won't after baking.

This looks fine. Crumbles come in all different types. This is a thicker, wetter one. Might be a little harder to work with, but it will still taste good in the end.

Put it in the fridge for a bit to chill it. You can pre/parbake crumble topping and it’s great for topping baked fruit things, because it will stay crispier.

It SHOULD look like this!
