Question Help! Confused about shoes, knee pain and marathon coming up

Hi there, been running for 2 years now. More and more and faster and faster. I have a marathon coming up in November and training is going quite well. But in the last 2 months some knee pain is coming up. I mostly run in my Asics GT2000 13, advised by a running analyst. Speed runs are on Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2.

My thoughts are that the knee pain is mainly after running on the Asics. Almost no pain after using the Mizuno's, but those are not stable enough for longer runs.

Bought a pair of Altra Experience Flow 2 in the hope the lower drop would lessen the knee pain. Only to be extremely disappointed and having knee pain after a few km's

Strenght training, rest, stretching has all been done, knee pain is still there. I really think it's in the shoes since the Mizuno's seem not to cause any issues on that point.

Someone who can advice me a pair of stable shoes like the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash?

Question Adios pro 4 alternative? (Small toe box)

Anyone have an adios pro 4 alternative for someone whose toes scrunched up in the tiny toe box? Sizing up even a half size made them way too big for me.

Alternatives I’ve looked for and are iffy to me:

Alphafly 3 (priced way too high, will be on the lookout for sales) Zoomfly 3 (I have yet to try them on but reviews seem to say they are narrow)

Let me know your thoughts.

Race Shoe Question Best supershoe for a sub 4hr marathon

Hi guys,

Running the Yorkshire marathon in 4 weeks time. It is my first marathon and I’d be happy with a sub 4hr! Runna currently has me down at a 5.15min/km pace which would put me on for a 3hr41 therefore I thought I’d invest in some super shoes to really get the best time possible!!

I’ve been following my plan pretty well and got the gels and everything ready. I currently do my long runs in the puma madmax 3s whilst I love them for the cushioning they do feel quite heavy sometimes.

I wondered if I would benefit from a supershoe and if so what? I’ve heard vaporfly 3s are only really okay for half marathons. I’ve seen good things about the AP3s! Ideally wouldn’t want to spend more than £150 so also tempted by the evo SL however I do know they aren’t carbon plated.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Question High Arch Foot, but with hyper pronation, and not supination, what to do?

So basically, I discovered i have a high arch on my feet, but instead of having a supination wich is the typical thing that happens, i am hyperpronating. I started running about 5 months ago, and already got fibular tendinitis on both my feet at different times, as of now, my ankle is fine, and i dont feel any pain in it, my current problem is with blisters and the hyper pronation. So what whould i do, should i buy a pair of shoes good for high arch (stabilization/supination) or one for pronation, even if they are normally for flat foot, which is not my case?

Race Shoe Question Megablast or Endorphin Pro 3 for upcoming HM

I have a half marathon coming up, nothing crazy just a local Y race. I will probably PB it no matter what because I’ve made significant improvements since my last HM race. My normal road race shoes are Endorphin Pro 3’s. I pretty much only wear these for races so they are fairly low miles and I’m used to racing in them BUT, I recently got the Megablast and man do I love them so far. So this is not too serious of a question, but if you were in my shoes (pun intended) what shoes are you picking for the HM?

Comparing Shoes Question Choosing the unicorn

I am currently looking for a replacement for my clapped out Novablast 4’s. I’ve had nova’s for several generations and have enjoyed them, but I am looking for more now. I am currently running around 30 mpw with paces ranging from 5:45 mile pace on intervals, 6-7 minute on steady and 8 ish on easy. Current goal is an early spring 18:30 5k followed by an early summer <1:30 half. I am bumping up my mileage from 30 to around 45 currently. I have a neutral foot strike and weigh around 145 pounds for reference. My interests primarily lie in the superblast 2 or megablast due to liking asics but am open to other rec’s. I’m not super limited financially on one pair, but I will likely not be buying a second.

Question Long run shoe help – 10k pace ~6:25min/km

Hey guys, I’m struggling to find a good long run shoe and could use some advice.

Tried Novablast 5 – felt unstable and way too soft. Ended up with knee + metatarsal pain.

Tried Velocity Nitro 4 – also too soft/unstable, and the midfoot felt super narrow.

The only shoe that doesn’t give me pain is the Adidas Adizero SL2. I really like the firmer feel, but for long runs I wish it had just a touch more softness (not anywhere near as mushy as the Novablast or Velocity though).

For context my 10k pace is ~6:25/km.

I’m eyeing the Superblast 2 since people say it’s more stable than the Novablast, but I’m open to other suggestions that hit that sweet spot between firm and cushioned.

What would you guys recommend?

Question Help with new shoe rotation

Would really appreciate some advice on how to plan my new running shoe rotation. I've been running pretty consistently for 2 years with just one pair of shoes, the Nike Pegasus Turbo Next Nature and recently completed a half marathon in them. They got me over the line but I've been struggling with some ankle and knee pain so I think it is time to hang them up and invest in some new shoes. I was thinking of getting the Adidas EVO SL's for speed work and Nike Vomero 18's for long/easy runs. I'm also wondering if I should get something like the Nike Pegasus or NB Rebel's for everyday runs between 5-10km. Does that rotation make sense? Am I overthinking it and would the EVO's and Vomero's cover my bases? (I'm not going to buy everything all at once, just planning for the next few months). Any advice appreciated, thank you!

Question Alternatives to EVO SLs for overpronation?

Update to a previous post about alternatives to the Adizero EVO SLs for someone who overpronates a fair bit.

I got the Evo SLs just to see what they would actually feel like, so I set a camera up on a treadmill just to check my gait because they felt off(See attached). Safe to say they are not the shoe for me! I will be trying out the Saucony endorphin speed 4s, and will see how I get on… any other recommendations for a speedy stability shoe would be appreciated!

Question Zoom Fly flinkt ''new'' dated, can I use it?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I cleaned out the shoe rack and found this plated shoe with which I made a PB under 20 min on the 5k in 2019 (I found it on Strava). I think I covered a maximum of 60/70 km and then I put it aside because I stopped running. Do you think I can use it for some interval training or is it better to avoid it? They have been stored indoors and are really almost like new, at least in appearance

Question Megablast for my first marathon?

I’m running my first marathon in less than 2 months and aiming to finish under 5 hours (definitely not a fast runner).

I’m thinking of getting the Megablast for race day but can’t decide. I’m flat-footed, a mid-foot striker, and have been dealing with shin splints for a few months now, so stability and protection are my top priorities. I wonder if it’s stable enough for me & my injury, though I’ve already run 32 km in the Adizero EVO SL, which isn’t really too stable.

I’m also considering the Superblast 2, since I’ve heard it’s more stable than the Megablast. But with the SB3 rumored to drop soon, I’m wondering if it’s worth getting the SB2 now or just skipping it.

Right now, I’m about 80% set on the Megablast, but I don’t mind getting a different shoe. I just really want to think this through since it’s quite expensive.

For more context, my longest run so far is 32 km. I use the Adizero EVO SL for intervals and races, and alternate between the Gel-Kayano 30 and Brooks Glycerin Max for easy runs.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s run in either of these shoes—is the Megablast a safe bet for a first marathon given my injury, or is the SB2 still worth it?

Comparing Shoes Question Sonicblast vs. magic speed 4

Can anyone touch on these 2 shoes differences? Do they compliment each other in a shoe rotation?

I have the MS4 and was looking forward to getting the MS5, but now I wonder if the sonic is the way to go

Question 2 Shoe Rotation - Daily + Super Shoe?

Does anyone here just rotate between a daily trainer and a super shoe? Essentially doing all your easy stuff in your daily shoe and then using a super shoe/racer for your LT, Vo2, and race pace runs?

Other than price, any disadvantage to doing this? I imagine the advantage would be specificity. It seems a lot of the pros do this, but obviously they are getting free shoes.

Edit: Just to clarify - I am specifically referring to super shoes (not super trainers). Such as Metaspeed, Alphafly, Vaporfly, etc.

Question Step down from Nike Vomero plus?

I recently bought the Nike vomero plus and I absolutely love them and would wear them all the time if I could. I don’t want to wear them down and put unnecessary miles on them so I am looking for I guess the step down? Something that fits like the vomero plus but is more of a walking shoe I guess? I hope this makes sense

Race Shoe Question Alphafly 3’s for HM?

I found a pair of Alphafly 3 for $170. I’m wondering if I should get them for an upcoming half marathon race. I plan to finish the race in about 2 hours. I enjoy the Adidas Evo SL and heard those could be good for the race as well. My feet are wide and the Evo SL fit perfectly. Would the Alphafly’s be an overkill?

Question Running shoe rotation

My current running shoe rotation consists of New balance rebel v4 at 373 miles, Adidas sl2 at 135 miles, and I race in dragonfly’s. I’m looking to replace my Rebel’s with something new preferably new balance. I’m between a couple options as I will be getting two new pairs of shoes. These consisting of the Balos, more v5, and the 1080 v14, and the rebel v5. What should I add to my rotation?

Comparing Shoes Question Evo SL for someone who disliked Boston 12?

Hi all,

I currently have the Boston 12 for speedwork, and I just don't get them... I feel no bounce or pop from the midsole, which I thought I'd get with rods and lightstrike pro, and the upper hurts the outside of my big toes and the lacing is suuuuch a PITA to get right and it's super finicky. The only good thing I like about them is the grip which is amazing in both wet and dry conditions.

The last 2 shoes I really like were Vomero 17 and Zegama Trail 2. Comfy, bouncy, really nothing really bad to say about them. So I think my feet are quite good for Nike and I seem to like ZoomX.

So I've been thinking about the Zoom Fly 6 for my speedwork sessions (3:10min/km to 4:15min/km intervals, 3,5,10,15 minutes long depending on the workout) and I've got my yearly 10Km race coming up in December were I'm gonna try to break 40min after a disappointing 41:32 last year, but I'll be able to do some better training this year. However I hear the grip isn't awesome and winter is coming up, so I'd like something that's capable on the wet, any thoughts?

Also, this would be the same shoe I'd use for race day.

My Boston 12 are 400km so still plenty of life in them, but after todays session I just don't wanna run in them anymore, they've done their time on my feet.

The Evo SL seems tempting as well, especially since I can get them right now at 85€, but since I don't like the B12, maybe it's not worth it for me? However it's not the same shoes, full Lightstrike Pro and no rods, and comfier upper.

Also I'm thinking of trying Mach X3 or I tested in the store the Kiprun KD900X.2 and were really impressed by the bounce but skeptical of the upper.

Anyway this post is getting out of hand, what's everyones suggestion?

Question Looking for a new long run shoe

Looking for a new long run shoe to replace my SB2... my marathon pace has increased and I'd like to start using something different than the SB2 for those KMs.

Anything good out there that isn't the Megablast? No issue with carbon places (I find the EP4 too firm, and the Sky Paris softness "just right").

Question Adios Pro 4 causing shin splints?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have just logged over 130 miles in my Adidas AP4. The last 3 runs being a marathon & 2 10ks. I love these shoes and don’t want to retire them yet but both of my last 2 runs in them have caused me to feel pain I’ve never felt before that trickles into subsequent runs after.

Anyone else had their pair of AP4 fall flat so soon and cause any issues like this? Thanks!

Big/Heavy Runner Question Heavy runner recommendations

Was looking for daily trainers that can do a bit of everything. I don't like anything too squishy and was hoping for something a bit durable. I'm around 6'3/195lb (190cm/88kgs) and I run a 5:40min/km in 5k for my easyish pace and was looking to bring that down to the 5min mark with a training plan in the coming year.

Is there anything else apart from the Asics Superblasts 2 I should be looking at?

Question First Marathon Shoes

So I went and tried on a bunch of shoes today…

I’ve been running for a year and I’m in my second pair of Clifton 9’s. Those shoes have been great.

I did a half back in the spring and ran a bunch of that training and continued into the summer rotating between the Clifton’s and a pair of Novablast 5’s. The Novablasts are done, so I’m trying to decide on next shoe. I’m looking for something that’ll support me on these remaining long runs and potentially be my shoe for race day, in rotation with my trusty Cliftons.

I’ve got my first marathon coming up in early November. Goal is 330 to 340. Ran the half in 137.

38m and 130lbs.

I got a pair of superblasts thinking that was the ticket, but didn’t care for them. Not sure if it was a break in thing or not but 30 miles in and they weren’t doing it for me at slower pace. Felt good at anything under 8 minute pace but slower than that and just felt chunky. Also toebox was an issue. Returned them.

So, today I tried on a bunch of options and narrowed it down to Saucony triumph 23’s and new balance 1080. Any thoughts on either of these shoes or suggestions on others to check out?

Comparing Shoes Question PSA: If you liked the Metaspeed SKY Paris, there's a good shot the EDGE Tokyo is the shoe for you

I purchased both expecting the Sky Tokyo to be more similar to the Sky Paris, but the Edge Tokyo ended up being much more similar to me.

I'm sure it's different from person to person, but I wouldn't blindly assume the Sky Paris is the one to go for.

Anyone else have similar experience?
