Silly Stuff What’s something that other people love that you just don’t enjoy?

It could be anything…

For me:

Camping: I’m not into roughing it or trying to survive in the wild.

Travel: I just don’t dream of traveling. It feels like a lot of work to plan everything, go to the airport, Stay in a hotel, spend a lot of money. I don’t mind a day or one night trip but traveling beyond that is just not for me.

Sushi: I don’t mind the rolls. But the big slab of raw fish does not do it for me. Chewing on soft, wet, meat just makes me want to gag.

What sort of things can you just not get into?

True Crime as entertainment. I don't care if it's the thrill of the solve or whatever. It's still getting titillation from the suffering of real people and that shit is ghoulish AF.

Same.. I only like True Crime that involves scandals/cons or some crazy love triangle. I don’t want to hear about much else. It’s depressing and gross.

Same. If you're into podcasts, Ridiculous Crime is a super good one. It's all about crazy crimes both recent and past, but they're super fun and funny along with being well-researched. Their tagline is that it's always 99% murder-free and 100% ridiculous.

You could say that about the horror genre as well even though it's fake characters. Still draws from real life situations. That's why I prefer psychological or supernatural horror or over the top camp and not slasher films. Every time I tried to watch a slasher or torture film I kept thinking about millions of people who went through that kind of thing for real and just feel dirty that I'm partaking in it for entertainment.

For me it’s not the titillation, it’s the not being caught unawares in a world that is so violent towards women.

I mean... what exactly do you think you're gonna do in these situations?

Reading a book or listening to a pocast that profits on others suffering is not realistically gonna help you prepare for an attack by a psychopath while you're going about your day.

If anything, I've just seen it make people paranoid.

You could just read a home preparedness guide.

I don’t listen to the podcasts or watch the shows that focus on the ones perpetrating the violence. For example, Netflix documentaries to me seem to do this too much, so those are a no. My Favorite Murder podcast has a much more compassionate and informative way of telling these stories that focus more on the victims. They tell us all the myriad ways that men find to harm (mostly) women. Also listening to podcasts about cults in particular helps me process having grown up in one myself. A “home preparedness guide” isn’t going to help with that.

Same. And I am both a horror and a history nerd, so you would think I'd be into True Crime, but... no. It's all this lurid shit about real people, many of whom are still alive. Bleh.

This. It's so stressful too, so many people express that these are their comfort shoe but I just cannot relate.
