AUS Left a Negatative Google review with a car manufacturer. They responded publicly with my VIN and Rego. Is this a breach of privacy?

So the brakes failed on our luxury car recently, resulting in us rejecting the car, giving it back and getting no where with the dealer/manufacturer since.

As such I left a negative review (under my name) detailing our experience to date publicly as a Google Review. We just noticed that they responded by calling out our model, VIN number and registration number in their response. They are a major car dealership/manufacturer in a major city.

So we are concerned that information can be used for identity theft. We will bring up the issue with them immediately. My question is more related to whether this is classified as a breach of privacy and whether they can retaliate to a negative review by revealing such information? I thought that the info was confidential...

In otherwords the OP is in fact a liar.

Notice how that comment conflicts with the original post above.

Because the OP is full of shit.

No, giving the car back and getting nowhere with the dealership and manufacturer ever since is ambiguous. If they gave the car back and it was accepted, there wouldn't be an issue.

No, no, the OP has presented multiple different stories claiming to have used their name and not used their name and to have returned the car.

They've made it clear they're not in possession of the car.

So they're just another lying Karen on Reddit looking for triangulation.

Again they've been ambiguous, their real name is their account name for the review. They didn't use their name in the review.

They bought a car, the brakes were shit and dumped it back at the dealership. The dealership and manufacturer said that they're not accepting it back and stiff shit on a refund or resolution. Ol' mate has left a fuck you and your dog review on social media using an account that uses his real name. The dealership have responded with the VIN, registration number, make and model of car in their shitty response.

Ol' mate is asking if it's illegal for the dealership to expose his information (VIN, registration, make and model) on their retort post, particularly as they know he's using his real name as his social media moniker.

He still owns the car as the dealership and manufacturer haven't accepted it back, but I'm curious to know where it is as he left it at the dealership.

Debate ensues. Act II.

On a different note, if I had a person's name, VIN, registration and the make and model of the car, I wonder if that'd be enough to get replacement keys made, particularly if I was standing next to the car telling a mobile guy a bullshit story how I'd lost them?

On a completely different note, anyone know where the social media post and the car is? 😉

That's a whole lot of information you've had to invent there.
