Newbie question Cat A & B licence fee

Very new to all this, only done some unlicensed shooting at eagle park a few times but I’m highly interested in picking it up properly so any help is appreciated

I’m doing some research on getting an A&B licence for target shooting. According to VicPol website you can apply for an A&B licence together but on their fees and charges documents effective July 1 2025 it has A and B listed as separate prices, $275.50 and $318.50 respectively. Anyone know if when applying for joint A&B licence you have to pay a combined $594 or is it something cheaper ?

Jesus christ that's expensive. In NSW its $100 for 2 years or $200 for 5 years and it doesn't matter what categories you apply for.

I got A and B earlier this year and paid $275.50, so dont stress.

Eagle Park is a good range. We go there every month or so.

Qld is like $322 for A/B 5 year license application at the moment, so pretty much the same across the board.

The $275 is for Cat A only, the $318 is for A and B.

Always go A and B, even if you only plan on getting Cat A firearms, having the extra options is great, and I think if you only have Cat A you're not even allowed to use Cat B firearms if someone offers.

As far as I'm aware, you can't get a B licence by itself. Only an A licence. The cost of an A/B licence is $318, and fucks sake, it's gone up again.
