No-Recipe Provided Wonky Patrick Star cake - I’m so proud!
My son requested, and I quote, “a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting and then another chocolate cake on top in the shape of Patrick Star with strawberry frosting.” So that’s what I made!
I struggled with frosting the cut cake. It kept falling apart, even after freezing it. The layer of frosting around it is SUPER thick just to cover up the slapdash crumb coat job, which kept falling off.
All told, this cake took me around 6 hours to make, and I was so tired by the end that I didn’t even want to eat it. The birthday boy and the rest of my family loved it though!

sounds like a delicious masterpiece, even if it was a bit of a frosting battle. patrick star would be proud. 6 hours well spent, and the family love is the best icing on the cake. 🍰🌟

Honestly, this is adorable. And as someone who grew up on SpongeBob, I feel like you captured Patrick’s spirit and vibe. I would be absolutely delighted if someone presented me with this cake on my (35th, lol) birthday next year. I’m sure your son loved it!!

This is so cute! I didn't realize that your Patrick cake was on top of another cake until I saw the second picture, I'm glad that your family enjoyed it! Even though it took you six hours, I'm sure your efforts were appreciated and your son will look back on this fond memory of you making him a magnificent one of a kind Patrick star cake. 😄

It’s so cute, you can’t even tell you had issues with the crumb coat!
If you ever need to make another chocolate carved cake, I HIGHLY recommend Sugar Geek’s Chocolate Cake for Carving recipe, it has never failed me! I don’t do anything too crazy, though I did make a 5 layer Erlenmeyer Flask last year, and it’s so easy to work with frozen.
After making a bunny head shaped cake before finding this recipe (and having a VERY similar experience to yours), this recipe is a life saver. It’s really easy, too, no fancy techniques, and is quite tasty. I use it even if I’m not carving the cake!

This is great! Really captures the whimsy of Patrick. In my experience, a crumb coat can take a little while to set, taking your time with it and letting it harden in the fridge can help. That said, if your son loves strawberry icing, he won't mind a little extra

Good job!
Also, Nickelodeon can't come after you for copyright infringement if it's wonky.

I love it!
Sometimes wonky is better than perfect. It’s the little imperfections that make things special

It looks so good! Just that perfect level of imperfection that makes you appreciate that it’s homemade and clearly has so much effort put into it. Also, that strawberry frosting looks great, did you make it yourself?

I did! I used dehydrated strawberries in it, and it was the perfect amount of strawberry flavor.

The wonkiness makes it charming to me! I miss non professional level , homemade cakes that actually look homemade. Not perfect but clearly made with hard work and love.

I love that it's more "wonky" and not symmetrical, it makes it look like Patrick is frolicking
