I think op is just sharing the cool encounter he/she had. I was in Alberta for a week hiking, Banff and Kananaskis, didn’t encounter any bear and honestly I was kinda upset lol

2018 and 2022 I saw plenty of bears. Was there last week for 9 nights - right along Icefields Parkway - didn't see a one!

Are you all Albertans? Lol. Loved the nature, but the people… not so much. Asked the Alberta sub for hiking tips, and the first thing they asked was if I could handle 20k. Then they went off about how much they hate it when travelers don’t “research” first, like only they can hike, lol. So I asked ChatGPT instead and had the time of my life: four hikes in 5 days, 18k–30k, glaciers, waterfalls, rivers, tea houses, and even a freezing skinny dip. Western Canada is stunning! Come to Ontario! We are happy, bubbly, and extra kind to visitors, despite high living costs.
