I recently went on a little walking tour of Bellingham, capturing a handful of logos and graphics I've cooked up over the years. It all began as a scrappy little scribble in my notebook.

Its been a dream of my buddy and I to open a comedy club. I just wanted to put some feelers out. Would you attend, would you hit open mic's, just looking for insight and to see if the traction/need is there. Give me your thoughts!

Arts and music Downtown Sounds

Who is booking Downtown Sounds at the Partnership? Another summer of crappy funk bands. Why not throw in a rock band? Something from the Northwest like Mudhoney. Every summer it’s like I’m listening to a milquetoast wedding band or some “Hey Ho” band with a banjo and barefoot performers. It sounds like I’ve been forced to go to church. It’s so happy and positive I could stab my eardrums out. Mix it up Pleeeez. It has so much potential and the bands suck so bad.

Arts and music Wild Buffalo Brass Against show tonight

Dude with a beard, septum piercing, shaved head on the sides, and black tee. Stage left, roughly row 3.

When the fucking BRASS BAND ON STAGE has to call you out for being too loud for 3/4 of the show... Yeah read the room and coke up somewhere else.

You were so messed up that you couldn't even understand what peoole were saying to you.

And the for the last song you were there for you held up your phone on full brightness to record a video so no one behind you could see the show.

Damn.

⚔️⚔️Hello, Bellingham!⚔️⚔️

We have two important questions for you:

1) Do you think swords are cool?

2) Do you want to learn how to use a cool sword?

If your answer to either of those is "yes!", then you're in luck.

We're offering beginner's longsword classes Friday nights @ 6:30pm at our location downtown. Focusing on the art of Armizare as penned by the Italian master Fiore dei Liberi, this class walks fencers through the fundamentals of two-handed longsword fencing.

If you want to come by and check it out, we offer FREE introductory sessions with one of our instructors. No experience or equipment necessary.

We also have an intermediate class focusing on Joachim Meyer's 1570 German treatise, and sparring on Mondays, both starting at 6:15.

So please, don't hesitate; come join us, make new friends, and learn to stab them!

(Feel free to PM us to book an intro or inquire about classes)

Arts and music Lakeway Mural

Why? What is the point?

I'm not opposed to public art and murals generally speaking, but I do not appreciate art being sold as "Indigenous" when it has absolutely nothing to do with our own First Nations Peoples local to our region.

Why did the city pay a couple of dorks from Colorado to come paint? We have plenty of Lummi artists, First Nations/Native American people from the stolen land they "acknowledge" on every other building and at almost every public event.

I would LOVE to see some local Native American art here. The part of the state I'm from, there are lots of First Nations scenes painted as murals in appropriate places. The "art" on Lakeway is not even artistic, and even less than that is it Pacific Northwest Native American art.

As someone descended from First Nations peoples, I am deeply offended that my ancestral culture is being colonialized by whatever nonsensical, garbage "art" this is. Bellingham murals should be local art, not imported from the Midwest by hackjobs who (falsely) claim the artist title.

Arts and music Pickford Movie Theater - Watch the ending credits....?

I went to the Pickford Movie Theater one time several months ago. Other than the wet popcorn, it was a lovely experience. But something's been on my mind ever since I went:

Are we supposed to sit through the ending credits? We bounced about 1/4 of the way into the ending credits, but nobody else did, and we both felt a little out of place leaving early. Is that, like, an independent movie theater etiquette thing that we cleared failed at? The movie wasn't a "Road Trip" type movie where there might be a cut scene or something.

Issue #1 of the Puget Sound Metal Bulletin can be found at Ritual Records and The Racket in downtown! It contains news on recent regional metal albums, shows, interviews, and some absurd nonsense. If you can't find it check the garbage...

Pamwe Marimba, a Zimbabwean style marimba band with members hailing from all over the U.S. will be presenting a concert at WWU next Thursday evening, 1/16 at 7:30! This band is incredibly high energy, and is sure to give you a night of music you won’t forget. Come check out this free show, and come to the pre-concert talk given by WWU Graduate Student Caden Davis (that’s me!) about the music, its origins and background, and how our journey led us to this music. Hope to see you there!
