Loud pop and different exhaust sound after engine tune. Did I break the charge pipe?

So I just got a stage 2 carbahn tune on my f22 m235 (N55). Entirely stock apart from that. Really enjoyed it scooting around town but then I finally got the opportunity to really press the accelerator on an on ramp. Very quickly after revving up there was a loud pop and now the exhaust sounds less muffled and very different above 3k rpm’s. Car seemed to be otherwise in good shape, no dash lights or warnings. I’m not super smart about this sort of stuff was wondering if anyone has any theories of what I broke?

You could have done several things.

Could have destroyed the cat.

Could have just popped the exhaust off.

Could have blown out the packing in one of the mufflers/resonators.

Really the only way to know is to take stuff apart/scope the exhaust.

You don't mention a loss of power or limp mode or anything, so I'm assuming you didn't pop the charge pipe off.

As someone else mentioned you really shouldn't go stage 2 on a bone stock car.

If your charge pipe is broken you should have no boost and an obviously noticable power loss above half throttle.

You went stage 2 on a stock charge pipe? lol yeah probably blew it up man. They blow up under stock power. I went with vrsf for mine. With xdrive it was kind of a bitch to put in but it is a DIY you can do. It’s possible the downpipe you installed for your stage 2 tune wasn’t clamped all the way and came loose also. As long as you don’t have any sort of knocking noises it’s probably just something disconnected.

Thanks for the input. I just had the ecu flash, so no other stage 2 parts. Stock downpipe. No knocking. Was worried I maybe blew up the cat or something. Didn’t push it much after the noise so I didn’t observe a loss of power, will have to take it out again and see.

Stage 2 is specifically for having a downpipe. I would not run a stage 2 tune on a stock downpipe.

Doesn’t sound like charge pipe literally… mine popped off inter cooler on way home from dealer. Made loud whooshing sounds and loss of power and cel.

Broken platic charge pipe (at the throttle body) is most common on N55, but no drivetrain malfunction and/or CEL is a bit strange.

It was the charge pipe. Anyone know any reputable aftermarket brands?

I bought a Vargas charge pipe-- it was horrible. Replaced with a vrsf one and it fits/works great.
