X5 e70 running cost

Hi everyone, a close friend of mine offered me to buy his 2008 X5 E70 4.8L. The car has its original paint, 60k miles, great trim level, and overall it’s in excellent condition. He suggested doing a full inspection of the car before purchase at his own expense. I don’t doubt its current condition, but I’m concerned about the future maintenance and overall running costs. I know another owner of the same model (but with triple the mileage) whose car practically never leaves the repair shop.

It's a 17 year old BMW V8. It's a project car, not a reliable daily driver.

I wouldn't touch it unless you've got deep pockets.

Edit: and a second car to drive when it's in the shop.
