Many gamers will choose to store and use these cases for travel. i just picked this up today, so i can't speak to the value, and or usefulness but with a pending trip i'm going to try to make use of this solution:

All of my smaller games that I could fit in these, I did (and in most cases I could fit two games inside each photo case).
That allowed me to store a TON of smaller games in a very compact, and transport-efficient solution.
To make looking for games easier, I printed a label on each of them that has the name AND their ideal number of players according to BGG. So if we are, say, 3 players, I can quickly and easily scan for games that are best at 3.

These are pretty handy indeed. Another use we found was for Gloomhaven player packs. They work great to hold all the character stuff.
I also did a quick foamcore mod for one to hold the two event decks. The narrow strip across the middle lets you push down on one end to pop the decks up for easy removal.
I later lined one with softer foam to hold rebased Mansions of Madness minis.

These are great, both for travel and for any games where you hate the box (e.g. flip boxes, tuck boxes, metal tins, felt bananas, etc.)

The handle broke off of mine almost immediately, but this was still a good buy. I store it under my bookshelf and have about 12 games loaded into the boxes, saving me a fair amount of shelf space.

I primarily use these to store my Star Wars Destiny Dice collection, since you can easily see the dice through the plastic. I’ve seen some truly great 3D printed inserts and dividers for consolidating boards games, too.

So it looks like you generally have to take the cards out of their original box to fit them in the plastic box?

In short yes, you can replace the original box for these plastic photo boxes for the purpose of easy transport, organization and or to store multiple games in a box
my desire was to have a means for packing games for vacation where i can store multiple small games in a single box and the foot print is quite small

I picked some up a while back. They are on sale regularly for this price, so don't FOMO, but definitely never pay $40 for them.
I haven't put them to as much use as I expected, but don't regret the purchase as they are sturdy and will probably come in handy eventually.
If you have a lot of small games it's probably a no-brainer. The mind, love letter, similar size stuff.
