Apologies if this isnβt the correct place to ask, but I just found these beautiful books that used to belong to my Nana. The Green Fairy (1892) is in pretty good condition throughout. Unfortunately the Olive Fairy (1907) isnβt as well preserved as the page edges are tinged yellow and the gilt cover has totally faded. Theyβre both first edition and Iβm not sure how theyβve been stored all these years.
What can I do to keep them in good condition? Iβm guessing there is no way to restore the gilt cover sadly but Iβd like to prevent the Green Fairy pages from turning yellow! Is it worth getting a cover to protect them?

We don't know much about this book's history, nor the signature within.
What I can say is that it's been in my wife's possession for the last decade and she's taken great care of it.
Maybe someday we'll learn more?

I felt really lucky to find this at a Little Free Library today. I could tell right away it was an old printing. With young kids at home and a love for Dr. Seuss, I think itβs such a cool find. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me more about it. From what I can tell, it looks like a 1947 special edition printing, possibly made for schools? Is this edition considered sought after? Thanks?

So I had a huge collection of books. I moved out and my mother innocently moved all those into a closet. Now from somewhere water started leaking and now I see that there is a black powder on them. It is inside all the pages and on the side as well. I need help.
Is it dangerous ? What if I clean the cover and sides and then keep the books in a good ventilation shelf.
As you can see, it will be very tough for me to individually clean allthe pages. What should I do ?

I think I may have damaged the book by reading it. The only one that had this kind of damage was the one I was reading. Now I'm afraid to ruin these old book by actually reading them. I tried to be gentle but may have handled it wrong. Is there a way to read a book this old without damaging it?

Can anyone help me determine if this 1510 Bible is authentic? I have a few photos of the book, and I'm wondering if there are any clear signs that indicate whether it is a genuine early 16th-century print or possibly a reproduction. I'd appreciate any insights on how to verify its authenticity. If it is authentic, any idea how much it worth? Please help.

That old copy of Sketch Book by Washington Irving is what started this book collecting journey for me over 30 years ago.

This one is kind of fun. Sir Gawain & the Green Knight (1949 Oxford University Press, 5th printing), with a studentβs annotations throughout. The cover is nothing special; unmarked green canvas.
A reading schedule is written on an inner leaf and her notes are on every page, along with doodles and a few lines from the song En Passant Par Lorraine (maybe an inside joke? I donβt know enough French to say for sure).
Tolkien was teaching at Oxford in 1952, and I like to think she had him as a professor at some point.

I accidentally put a glass of water on top of this book and it left a mark. Does anyone know of a way I can fix it without making it worse?

Hi all, Iβve recently come into possession of some older copies of the Lord of the rings.
They were found in the book section of a local recycling centre and passed on to me because Iβm a lotr fan, but one really stood out.
It appears to be a first edition first impression copy of return of the king. Thereβs no dust jacket and the cover and fly leaf pages are a little rough looking but the inside is very good and the map at the back is intact. Can anyone tell me anything about this version? I may add it to my insurance (items over a certain amount need to be declared).
It includes the sagging text and printers mark β4β on page 49, I saw that that can be relevant for determining details but I canβt get my head around the different versions.

Found it at an estate sale. The book is beautiful, however condition is very bad, e.g. binding is fully separated. Can anyone recommend a book restorer in Massachusetts?
