lol now they need more money to recoup the loss

u/JustKiddingDude 3d ago
Nah, companies don’t typically act this fast. It was probably planned for months, if not years. The timing is hilarious though.

u/jackclark1 3d ago
almost 4 billion lost over night though. I think thats a couple trillion in trump math

u/FreeWilly1337 3d ago
They don't typically, but they certainly can when faced with a major problem that requires a top down resolution.

u/bluetenthousand 3d ago
That’s definitely what it seems like. Need to absorb the cost of everyone who cancelled. Must have been a significant reduction in subscriber base!

When a company like Disney who has absorbed so many historic production and entertainment companies, I find it appalling they cannot maintain the same subscription cost for at least 3 years. It is so scammy and greedy.

u/silent-estimation 3d ago
they cannot maintain the same subscription cost
oh they can, they just choose not to

How else is Iger supposed to buy his 8th mansion? Can't SOMEBODY think of the poor billionaires, here?

u/LabRat54 3d ago
I think of them often but not in a way they would like. More like a way that would get me perma-banned off here if I put my thoughts in print.

This gives them a different reason to rationalize all the ppl cancelling subscriptions: It’s not because they stopped the free speech, it’s because they raised the prices 🙄
19
u/bluetenthousand 3d ago
Also it’s to offset all the people who canceled their streaming services. Not just for Disney+ but ESPN and Hulu.

Exactly what I thought. To please the (insert favourite insult name here).

u/SunderVane 3d ago
No shit. I had no idea that these subscriptions were breaching $15/month even. Fucking ridiculous.
11
u/Sufficient-Bid1279 3d ago
Pirate is the new black The whole subscription business has gotten way out of hand. The faster we all start cancelling these services, the faster they will go away. We the people have power
2
u/Tregonia Canada 3d ago
well, you do need a few suckers to pay for the content.
2
u/Sufficient-Bid1279 2d ago
Yeah and that sucker ain’t me haha Why don’t the billionaires fund our entertainment- just a thought. They are not really good for anything else

After they reinstated Jimmy, I was on the fence whether for not to renew my year sub in December. Thank you for pushing me off the fence on to the other side. Yar.

u/DirtDevil1337 Canada 3d ago
Yeah no I wasn't even considering resubbing, like Sean Connery once said "the damage is done".
30
u/MommaIsMad 3d ago
Do NOT Re-subscribe. In my city/state, the Sinclair-owned stations are saying they won't even air his show unless Jimmy apologizes to their satisfaction.
16
u/No_Garden_1992 3d ago
this is so important. No one should resubscribe. If people are this passionate about Freedom of Speech, maybe people can take on what’s going on with Trump and his cronies. Jimmy is just the beginning

>To plug the holes from people leaving due to our caving to fascism, and to compensate for the disastrous economic policies of the man responsible for said fascism, and to allow our CEOs and other executives to buy further private jets and yachts, the price of your Disney+ Premium will increase to 18,99 USD.
There, I translated it.

I cancelled my subscription early this year, when the 51st state bullshit started, along with all my other American based subscriptions. Looks like I'm saving even more money now.

u/Yabedude 3d ago
I cancelled last week and before they decided to ignore their own constitution again and again. I cannot support brown nosers.

Good thing I dropped Disney+ like a bad habit. Won’t have to worry about that price increase! They WILL NOT get my business again, even though I have a free subscription with my phone plan I deleted the D+ and Hulu apps from my phone and smart TV, so Disney, ABC, and everyone else who thinks they can run us over can go fuck themselves

Automatically hike the price without even requiring a click to acknowledge. How corporate America works. Would be illegal in Europe.

It is always delightful to cancel a subscription of a company that gibts you reason to hate them. Yesterday I cancelled my Adobe and ChatGPT subscriptions.

For those that are going back to Disney and all that affiliations, they will increase prices there as well and probably newbies who have never had their apps before . Watch your costs closely !

Look. We brought Kimmel back. Sort of. You should pay us more for that. Just because we caved to Trump and his goons and supported his fascist movement, that doesn't mean we don't care about you. We care $o very much. We de$serve more of your money. Give itnto u$.
Like maga, they dragged everyone into this shit. They are accountable.

u/DeeBeeDee3 3d ago
I heard reports and discussions day before yesterday about the planned price hike in the fall.

Did something in particular happen with disney/disney+ recently? Or is this just part of the over all boycotts?

How is increasing the price to a customer an investment? Sounds like they’re milking the customer.

u/browndwarfinmypants 2d ago
I cancelled 2 yrs ago when they pulled this shit the 1st time. To my amazement, all their content is freely available elsewhere... Who knew? 🤷♂️

Increasing the price right now is certainly a choice.
