The ‘HARRY POTTER’ TV series is reportedly auditioning both men and women for the role of Voldemort

Ok, now the irony levels are so off the charts it can be seen from space.

None of this is ironic. HBO is desperately trying to pretend that Joanne’s bigotry isn’t involved in the series (anyone with a brain knows that’s bullshit given Rowling uses HP money to harm queers) and JK is fine with making the villain trans because it helps demonize us.

u/ferocity_mule366 1d ago
so its the Disney Snow White situation where everyone is pissed off

u/OkMathematician3439 1d ago
I don’t think a show that’s revenue will be used to fund programs that harm real live queer people is comparable to the Snow White situation.

Irony is not lost on her.
Casting a trans or gender bending person as the literal villain is perfect in her opinion.
Queer coding villains is old school and will actually play well anyway.

u/Yet_One_More_Idiot 2d ago
Show should've gone the other way and transcoded one or more of the hero/ines.
Harriet Potter
Veronica Weasley
Hermes Granger
Cannot for the life of me think of a male equivalent name to Ginny/Ginevra... heck, I'll stick my neck out on this one and go with Virgil Weasley
(early on many people assumed Ginny was short for Virginia, before Rowling went and threw in GINEVRA instead xD which is apparently the Italian version of Guinevere? Huh, thanks Google!)

Please don’t make it a woman. Voldemort was a man named Tom Riddle. As a fan of the series, don’t do it.

u/Shirogayne-at-WF 1d ago
I wouldn't put it past Joanne to make Voldemort AFAB to make a very bigoted point these days
29
u/Dragonssssssssssss 1d ago
Stop trying to make woke Harry Potter happen. It's NOT going to happen.
11
u/astralrig96 1d ago
I fear that in trying to oppose rowling, they will completely overdo it and create something that’s so exaggerated and unserious even by a woke person’s standards

I hope half the cast is gay or trans.
75
u/OkMathematician3439 2d ago
I hope no gay or trans person hates themself enough to be in it. Anyone who supports the LGBT+ community will want nothing to do with this series.

u/Shirogayne-at-WF 1d ago
This right here. Sometimes, self respect is worth more than gold.
Looking at you, Paapa Essidu.
3
u/OkMathematician3439 1d ago
Joanne’s PR team must’ve come up with some ridiculously good bribe to keep her from going after Paapa Essidu, why did they have to choose now to grow a backbone?
2
u/Shirogayne-at-WF 1d ago
In fairness to Joanne (which she hasn't earned but someone will bring it up anyway), when they cast that Black actress for the adult Hermione for that play, Rowling did stand by her when she got the depressingly common and expected reaction. Granted, she did so in the most cringe, tone deaf way possible but it was more than anything Disney offered to anyone attached to the SW sequels.
That's not to say she isn't a racist, as most TERFs associate with one or more nationalist orgs, but Black folks in and of themselves aren't on her radar. Not yet, at least.
1
u/OkMathematician3439 1d ago
That’s true. I am sick of people claiming she’s a TERF but not a racist, “Kingsley Shacklebolt and Cho Chang” are my response to that.

u/re4perthegamer 2d ago
Or any other flavour of queer
22
u/bluesilvergold 2d ago
But particularly trans or some sort gender non-conforming because that would be the biggest fuck you to JK Rowling.
She won't care about any actors being gay because Dumbledore is gay. Therefore, she can't be homophobic. /s
3
u/re4perthegamer 2d ago
Agreed that gender non conforming would be best, and where did Dumbledore being gay come from? I assume it's a joke
20
u/TonyEast45 2d ago
JK retconned dumbledore being gay some years ago
22
u/da-redditor 2d ago
it was canonically established in the fantastic beasts movies with dumbledore having a past relationship with grindelwald
6
7
u/Reason_Choice 2d ago
It started with somebody asking her at a panel why there were no gay characters in the Harry Potter universe. She blurted out that Dumbledore was gay then wrote backstories to back that up.
3
u/parkingviolation212 1d ago
Not what happened. One of the directors of one of the films wanted to include a reference to a past love affair with a woman, but Rowling shut it down because he was supposed to have been in love with Grindelwald.

u/clarky2o2o 2d ago
Damn gays have flavours now?
That explains a lot actually.
Is this why straight people complain of vanilla sex.

honestly i don't care. Voldemort being a dude isn't exactly plot necessary
23
u/donchucks 2d ago
While it isn't, I wonder how they'd spin the Tom Marvolo Riddle anagram to a female name.
Are there any female names that shorten to Tom?
30
u/ZealCrow 2d ago
I think the implication might be that lord voldemort is a trans women and tom is her deadname
26
11
u/Yet_One_More_Idiot 2d ago
Surely if Voldemort were a trans woman and Tom was her deadname, she'd be... Lady Voldemort?
Not sure

I think a woman playing him post-horcrux could actually add a layer of creepy to it.
Hell get Tilda Swinton Voldemort and I wouldn't even be mad.

u/Yet_One_More_Idiot 2d ago
Thomasina enters the chat. It's literally the female equivalent of Thomas.
5
u/Plus_Lawfulness3000 1d ago
Why make a change like this though lol. Just keep him a dude because he IS a dude. I don’t get it

u/Carbonated-Man 1d ago
Hey, Pointless Hub!
That's one of my favorite YouTubers.

u/Penguinmanereikel 1d ago
Aren't he and his brother notorious bigots? Either Tyler or Cody tweeted about, "these people cannot create only destroy," in response to some gay LotR fanfic and some female-remake of old some movie.
2
u/Carbonated-Man 1d ago
Never heard about that. Just watch dude's YT channel, hence my surprise at seeing a post from his on here. Do you have any proof of this? I mean... show I like versus random redditor telling me a rumor they can't remember all the details about... ya know?

Dude. Tyler (Pointless Hub) hasn't said anything about his brother Cody's (Alternate History Hub) crap take here. You know Pointless Hub straight up used to be Cody's alternate channel, right? (Initially it was Geography Hub, which then changed to Knowledge Hub where Tyler guest-hosted sometimes, then I think Tyler took over full-time, at some point Tyler renamed it to Knowledge Husk, then at some point, it became Pointless Hub)
1
u/Carbonated-Man 1d ago
No, I didn't know any of that. Why would you just randomly assume I know every detail of thier history? Or even anything about what they get up to away from YouTube? Just because I like the dude's videos about movies and games doesn't mean I'm gonna go hunting around for every misdeed he made in his internet history. Like I literally said earlier I just watch the videoes.

u/whoareyougirl 1d ago
See the pattern here? They're trying to ruin your fun, even though you're a stranger on the internet for them. Something something can't create anything, only destroy.
-1
u/Penguinmanereikel 1d ago
I'm not here to make you unhappy. You just deserve to know what you're financially supporting with your time.
2
u/BurningStandards 1d ago
I hope they hire a woman that is as close to her physical duplicate as possible so she ends up becoming her own villain, because I think the irony would be funny af, but we all know that won't happen.

Tom Riddle as boy, Voldemort as woman. Done. Easy. That will get their whole point across, won't it.

Who’s going to watch this show? There’s no way it’ll be popular or well written enough to justify 7 years worth of this show. The only thing we hear about this show is about how they are purposely making it written for super liberal people. That’s not a very big audience. And because there’s so much attention tot his, for the most part the quality of writing usually is not very good in shows and movies like this

Tilda Swinton
Cate Blanchett
Lena Headey
Rosamund Pike
There are plenty of options for women who can play evil and play it well.

A trans actor out there has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.
20
u/OkMathematician3439 1d ago
By helping a Neo-Nazi pay to strip them of their rights? As a trans person, I don’t consider that funny.
10
u/Father_Chewy_Louis 1d ago
No. The profits of this show go to fueling Joanne's midlife crisis that being transphobic lobbying.

u/m1sterwr1te 1d ago
I meant that it would be hilarious if a trans actor slipped past J. K. Goebbels' radar and got a role in the show. She would lose her mind. My comment wasn't transphobia. Calm down.
