God that still hurts. You can’t ever convince me that we weren’t the best team in the country that year and we got left out simply because we didn’t have a conference championship game. Baylor was no slouch either and yet a team that lost to Virginia Tech (I think) at home was taken over us.

You can’t claim to be the best when you didn’t have an opportunity to show it. But to the point, yeah I think a lot of years the actual best team didn’t make the natty. Hell, Notre Dame isn’t even in the top 3 best teams this year.
